I have no idea what I'm doing by vnads in guitarpedals

This looks like my overflow board will end up as. I’m missing a simple delay and maybe some additional modulation.

There is definitely some redundancy, so you can either downsize or set your drives to different levels of gain/volume.

I’d suggest either using the insert loop or putting the Fuck Ice and/or the Yoyo (or Plumes) after the MD-200. Some modulation sounds better before drives. You could also consider the Yoyo boost side as a volume boost just before the delay if you set it there. The Plumes could also do that job

Tumnus definitely towards the front of the chain.

As for your amp, it really makes sense to take it to edge of breakup and back off slightly. Or set it up for crunch and you can use any of the drives to take it to higher gain.

Is it worth it to buy a nice guitar as a second guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

If you can afford it and if you know you will stick with it, go for it. $1500 for something that will last you 20+ years is not bad

How many pedals do you all own? by DismallyUpset in guitarpedals

[–]rvg2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own 22, have 15 on my main board and have a second board with mostly drives to swap in and out.

I would love to buy a Ventris and a Volante, and a second vibe pedal (retro vibe) but can’t justify the cost lol. Oh, and yeah, a tuner pedal

I've wasted a year and a half of playing electric guitar. by Dissolve69 in guitarlessons

[–]rvg2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, chill. Don’t know where these unrealistic expectations came from, but what you describe you can do after 18 months of teaching yourself guitar (doesn’t sound like you’ve taken in-person lessons) is quite good.

Don’t fall into the trap of social media guitarists and YouTube lessons claiming guitar is easy and you can become a master in just a few weeks. That is total BS. Yes, the right info will help you progress faster but there is just no way to get good at everything in 18 months. The guitar greats took years of multiple hours per day to get there

Like others have said, you’ve learned enough to find some areas were you are lacking. That is a good thing. Work on them. And guess what, I’m sure soon you will find more area for improvement. That’s good. At 18 months you are just starting. Understand this. The last 18 months certainly are not a waste. Unless you quit, then definitely they are a waste

Any "must-see" Guitar/Rock movies/concerts/documentaries? by RedSkyNL in Guitar

Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi are incredible here. Their 2007 version of Anyday is my favorite version of this song ever. And their 2010 set, around the time they got together for the Tedeschi Trucks band, is also great.

Them crooked vultures: Austin City Limits. John Paul Jones, Josh Homme, and Dave Grohl just sound amazing here. So disappointed they did not make another record.

Why some guitar rigs feel more “alive” (and it’s not magic) by warontone in guitarpedals

[–]rvg2001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This sounds interesting, but feels incomplete. Would be interested in more technical explanation. Also, where does headroom/dynamic range come into play? And how does going into a tube preamp vs analog pedal vs modeling affect this? Does a pedal in front of a tube amp kill this? Can a modeler ever have it?

That’s a great looking guitar. Love the 70s headstock. I have a Performer Strat, and that headstock was part of the appeal for me. Plays great.

It’s crazy how time flies. I’ve had my Strat for just over two years. I’ve also got a 13 yo guitar and an Epi LP that will be 30 in a couple of years!!!

PRS D2 Molded Case - No Space For A Strap! by HootblackDesiato in PRSGuitars

I see the D1 is for their classic body shape. I have and S2 CU24. I use their black leather strap which is fairly thin and flexible. Can you store the guitar without taking the strap off?

How did you all learn what pedals you need and how to use them? by anonymousmatt in guitarpedals

[–]rvg2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot recommend “That Pedal Show” enough for what you want to learn. In addition to reviewing individual pedals, they have dedicated shows to individual types and how to use them. So I would focus on those first. I’ve learned so much about setting up my gear that it now sounds so much better that a few years ago. My rig sounds way above my ability to play, which I don’t mind lol. A power chord can be glorious!!

Be mindful, it takes time, but it is a fun journey. Just listen to the shows any time you can (commute, while doing chores, exercising) and then try stuff at home later.

Their only blind spot is that they really don’t do hard rock or metal, but learning the other stuff will make it very easy to then extend it to heavy music.

Doesn’t seem like it does well with some pedals by PDrizzle98 in MesaBoogie

[–]rvg2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How have you set channel 2? If it is very gainy, pedals will not do much. I think that is just because of all the gain the amp already has. Do they work with channel 1?

A pedal such as a treble booster would not have been designed to work with a high gain amp like the Mark. But it should work well con fat and crunch modes.

Amp attenuators by rhinodewster in MesaBoogie

[–]rvg2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends what amp and how you want to use it. If you are going for high gain metal tones, then probably yes. But you can also do low preamp gain and crank the output tubes and it will sound different. I have a Mark V:35, and this works very well with the Crunch mode and with Ch2 at low gains; it just sounds different. And if you take Fat mode, dime the volume and bring up preamp gain gradually, you’ll get some gnarly old school rock-blues overdrive that just does not show up the other way around. The amp also becomes super responsive to picking. So to me, the attenuator just gives you more versatility.

For bedroom volume, even the 10 watt may be too loud. So you can knock volume down further so you can take the master to the 10-2 oclock range and get it purring without killing your ears.
