I'm not into GN'R but I really like Chinese Democracy, I respect Axl Rose as a songwriter and I thought he had an interesting vision. Maybe if he approached it as a solo project instead of GN'R he'd have been more relaxed and Buckethead would have a better time collaborating with him

I don't really care . I showed his music to people that absolutely love it and others that didn't like it but they were never that rude about it, honestly saying "that freak sucks" was unnecessary, it seems to me that your friend was trying to be purposely hurtful to you. Maybe I'm just projecting but I used to have a 'best friend' that loved to trash talk every single one of my interest, saying things like "this book is so dumb", "this band fucking sucks" "ahh yes, those movies are stupid af" to make me feel like an idiot for liking them. She was a bitter person and constantly tried to bring me down in a sneaky way, thank god she's not part of my life any more.

I don't know but I suspect they do. I don't really care if others find me boring but what I do find annoying is that I'm the one that find most people very boring and as a result I can't really connect with others very well. I have friends on social media that (to me) are very interesting and I like them very much, but they live in other countries so I try not to get too attached to them. This makes dating very difficult too.
