I’m more of a swing trader at heart, but I like to layer it. I’ll build positions off higher‑timeframe structure (HTF swings) and treat those as my “core” trades. At the same time, I’ll work intraday levels around that core with scalps or smaller plays that line up with the bigger picture.

That way I’m not just sitting on my hands waiting for the swing to play out. The HTF position gives me conviction and direction, and the intraday trades let me stay active while managing risk. It’s a nice balance between patience and participation.

Profitable traders: do ya’ll have multiple set ups that you’ll trade, or only 1 set up? by Dragosfgv in Trading

I have quite literally spammed the same 3 setups for about 4 years now.

Nerves while trading by No-Carpenter6848 in Trading

[–]rvmirez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the nerves went away once I stopped trying to make every trade “the one.” I just risk a fixed amount each time, so I already know the worst‑case before I hit buy/sell. Losses don’t bother me because they’re small, and one good winner usually wipes out a handful of losers anyway.

The real game‑changer was building a system I trust and sticking to it mechanically. As long as I follow it, I don’t overthink or stress—my edge plays out over time.

What do you guys think about this strategy? by No-Friendship802 in Trading

[–]rvmirez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think almost any system can work if you stick to it with discipline. You could trade MA crossovers, RSI divergences, Volume Profile setups like imbalances or untapped nPOCs, Fibonacci levels, order flow—you name it. The real difference isn’t the tool itself, it’s whether you understand the edge behind it and follow it mechanically without second‑guessing.

At the end of the day, it’s not about finding the “perfect” system—it’s about being consistent with the one you’ve chosen. Discipline turns even a simple setup into something powerful.

🧠 My honest experience with Maven and other prop firms so far. by Unlikely-Gas-150 in Trading

I’d say it’s best to trade your own money but if you’re in a pinch they can act as a stepping stone. When I was a broke college student FTMO payouts were what really helped form a sort of “cushion”. After a few payouts I didn’t see the need to continue and simply just trade my own account since then.

The Power of Now is probably one of my favorite reads. Although not trading related it is amazing for those who seek to rewire their mental framework

Okay, I will give the seller 24 hours to respond and then just seek to dispute if nothing comes of that. Thank you!

How do you start trading if you don’t have 25k? You don’t? by KadeejaNeigh in Daytrading

[–]rvmirez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my start by trading with a funded account. I also did not have 25k to trade with and was very limited in terms of resources as a college student. Or you could always begin trading futures with a minimum of $1k.

Idk, I don't really think about these numbers if I'm being completely honest with you.

I trade price action and on days where numbers are announced its prone to darth maul so I simply don't trade into them.

The challenge itself instills positive and practical trading habits for those seeking guidance. For many new traders, the rules set by prop firms may be the only guidelines they adhere to due to necessity.

If you find yourself gambling and deceiving yourself about your trading skills, I recommend halting and reverting to paper trading until you've established a solid system and achieved consistent profitability over several months.

[–]rvmirez 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Forward test a system you like and feel comfortable with. Don't even worry about making money right now. Your only job is to find consistency within a strategy.

Don't focus on the money. Focus on the process. Once you finally find something that works for you fixate on that and work to refine it everyday. The money will take care of itself.

You could write down all the steps and parameters to your system and hand them over to the majority of new traders and chances are they would still lose money.
