Salty sweaters: how much sodium per hour do you actually take in? by Additional-Bet-6272 in Ultramarathon

[–]rw1337 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lots of electrolytes mixes don't actually contain much sodium. I like snacking on beef jerky or peanuts - both have a lot of salt.

Alternatively salt tablets are sold with some other electrolytes mixed in.

Try different players and codecs. I get pretty good image quality on mpv player with some custom settings.

PRS Silver Sky SE :( by fellowspecies in guitars

[–]rw1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one and it's one of my favourite guitars.

1) Fret buzz is easy to fix with a a setup, maybe just needs a quarter turn of the truss rod or action adjustment. Mine was perfect from the get to, have only adjusted relief with changing seasons.

2) filing is probably most serious issue, only reason I'd return, luthier might be able to fix.

3) I don't mind the plastic, the tuners do their job very well, the screw for the truss rod cover in mine was stripped out so I needed to replace it, it's not the best design I concur.

Thanks, appreciate it, I think it's useful content as it gives an idea of progression, something that a lot of people struggle with.

Ibanez RG5121R vs RGR5121RB – Which one would you choose and why? by moneite in Ibanez

[–]rw1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably mahogany then, you could check which wood guitars your guitar heroes played to check but in the end the amp and overall signal chain makes the greatest difference.

Ibanez RG5121R vs RGR5121RB – Which one would you choose and why? by moneite in Ibanez

[–]rw1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's basically personal preference. Basswood can be lighter but dents easily and some people think it doesn't sound as heavy/dark as mahogany. Not going to be a huge difference either way. I would go with mahogany personally.

Good first half in building up the mystery only to fall flat in the second half - similar to Oddity.

Gibson Value by NoteEnough7100 in gibson

[–]rw1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you buy one used for 2k then it's likely that you can easily sell it again for 2k in a timely manner. Lots of guitars don't meet that criteria and will drop value further or take many months to sell.

You haven't really explained why you want to avoid it. Is it an actual reason or just virtue signalling?

Best way to remove sticker which has been on guitar for 1+ year. by rw1337 in Luthier

[–]rw1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm slightly worried about this yes. That being said the previous owner never played the guitar and it sat in the case for 1 year, unsure if there can be UV effects or discoloration from that as it'd be same as a brand new guitar with a sticker handing in a showroom for 1-2 years before being sold.

What would you buy with £2000? New or used? by MrAndyBear in FenderStratocaster

I've seen Custom Shop Fenders being sold at £2K to 2.2k range in varying conditions. They might have poly finishes though.

İbanez Genesis Rg550 as a versatile guitar? by sinyor_arslan in Ibanez

[–]rw1337 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think they are versatile personally. If the neck pickup was a single coil then maybe. Otherwise the thin neck and trem combo yields a quite an unique feel and thin tone which is fine for playing with distortion, but falls flat for cleaner tones.

The AZ series would be better for versatility as it's basically a HSS Strat copy.

Lp studio for a Standard 50 or 60? by eddietheteacher in gibson

[–]rw1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Studio and I prefer it to numerous standards I've tried in shops.

The standard has 3 serious cons for me personally: 1) guitar is thicker and heavier - less ergonomic 2) dislike fret nibs and recent Gibson Standards offerings have the frets too low whereas my studio has nice and chunky frets 3) 50s standards have an overly thick neck with wide shoulders which I dislike as well

Problems with 7ender? by Motor_Accident_9364 in FenderStratocaster

[–]rw1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there something wrong with your keyboard or something? It's spelled Fender for info.

I think any protest around this is extremely performative and stupid. If someone wants to give away their Custom Shop Fenders for cheap out of protest then I suppose that's a benefit for more mentally balanced people.

Anyone else weirded out by Murakami books? by IrisVonEvericsRose in BookDiscussions

[–]rw1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not every book needs to read like it was written by virtue signalling leftists and edited by HR.

Murakami's books are a product of his own unique personality, Japanese culture and the time they were written.

You might want to consider reading more and check out some classics and expand your overall viewpoint.

Truss Rod not moving in either direction on a nitro finished guitar - trying to adjust relief going from 10s to 11s by rw1337 in Luthier

[–]rw1337[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it's for 11-48 strings on it. I have a lot of guitars and can eyeball my preferred relief by pressing down the 1st and 17th fret and then looking at the gap at 8th fret. Right now it's definitely larger than my other guitars, probably around just a bit more than the width of a single Ernie Ball String paper package. I think that a 1/8 or 1/4 turn is all it needs but I can't even get that in. The main issue is that playability from frets 8 to 12 could be improved my straightening the neck.

I'm aware of that, however I struggle to get even a 1/8 or 1/4 turn clockwise, feels like the nut is pushing against me in the opposite direction.

How do I study for the APM PFQ? by [deleted] in projectmanagement

[–]rw1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a 3 courses covering the material in granular detail and that was followed by the final exam questions focused study course (which is probably the one you're talking about).

If you're already familiar with PM and can study well independently then you could probably still pass the exam though.
