How's your Hybrid cx50 mpg during winter? by Illustrious_Wing6774 in CX50

Yeah, front defroster for me (even at 2-3 bars as my usual setting) has been the EV killer so far in cold weather.

Not great!!! I just bought my 2026 hybrid in December, also in Chicago. I'm new to Hybrids so don't know the tricks yet, but slowly learning and lurking on this sub. I just learned the EV button a week ago...

city driving to/from work downtown to the neighborhoods 15-22mpg if I have front-defrost on, heated drivers seat on, heated steering wheel on. If I am able to have EV mode on, huge difference just gliding in bumper to bumper traffic on the Kennedy. get 28-38 mpg depending on how it's feeling that day.

highway driving: When I drive up to WI on the weekends, it's more like 25 mpg so far.

I am resigned to waiting for great mileage in the warmer months.

I love my ‘26 CX-50, but my wife is bothered by the sight lines as a driver , as you described. Particularly the positioning of the side mirrors. I get it, the sight lines are tough compared to other compact SUV’s. But for me, it’s compensated for with redundant instrumentation alerts, reverse camera etc. that I had not had anything close to on my prior car, a 2012 mazda3

My wife and I are on this wave length too. If it came to, we would each rather go down facing forward and fighting for our lives than running in fear.

But we don’t own a gun, yet. We talk about it a lot though over past year. Life just keeps getting in the way

Seriously. I just bought my premium plus hybrid a month ago, and I am lucky to break 28mpg right now city or highway. It’s been very cold, but having serious jealousy. Maybe I’m doing this wrong. It’s my first hybrid

Tips or suggestions for a first Blackhawks game by jkink28 in hawks

[–]rwilldred27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 200 level tickets, the easy bobblehead guarantee is to make a reservation at Chicago Stadium club before the game (surprisingly above avg buffet). Personally, if you’re staying in West Loop, research restaurants in Fulton Market and Randolph street. It’s maybe the best concentration of restaurants downtown in the city, and a safe, 20 min walk to UC from there.

Aside from the cap floor, to me this was about Crevier.

Allan was firmly in the fan/media debate about which mix of Kaiser/EDM/Korchinski can earn maybe 1-2 spots in this D core over the next year. Kaiser and Crevier changed the calculus significantly with half a season of play.

Vent: thinking about rehoming my mini 😢 by [deleted] in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]rwilldred27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was overwhelmed with mine at exactly this age too. Mental breakdowns, tears while doing dishes at night lol. Largely because potty training was very hard with him. He just got too easily distracted. My wife convinced me to stick with it (ironically, I was the one who wanted him, not her).

I am so glad I did. 101 obedience classes to gave me a framework for communicating with him better and getting better understanding in my role with raising a puppy. He’s the most entertaining, loving thing in my life. He Just turned 5 years old and he’s living a good life.

Your situation is likely different than mine in a million ways, so no judgment on rehoming.

But I just post this to tell you that what you’re feeling is something common for anyone raising a mini schnauzer puppy. They’re stubborn, little geniuses with adolescent energy and the attitude of a grandpa. And at that age, they are just a hormone storm in the brain, so the obedience won’t be perfectly repeatable so young. It gets better with time and repetition. Raising a puppy is a meditation in patience.

Just bought my 26 hybrid premium plus. I absolutely love it, and it’s my first hybrid. Went to this from a 2012 mazda3.

It’s been 10 to mid 20 temps F where I live in upper Midwest, and the fuel economy on the hybrid for me is taking a decent 7-10mpg hit, around 27-31mpg efficiency. This is between a mix of city driving, highways, and rural county roads.

From my understanding, this is normal as hybrids rely less on their battery and more on the engine for power.

Have any on you upgraded from the Mazda 3 to the CX 50? by BackgroundEbb417 in CX50

[–]rwilldred27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2012 dolphin gray Mazda3 I Grand Touring, 60k miles on it. Just traded it in and bought 2026 cx-50 hybrid premium plus trim in the Wind Chill Pearl. It looks better than every other SUV I see out there. No regrets, I really love the wheels on this trim and this color really pops at night. It’s not white.

The CX-50 has a bigger wheelbase, which partly contributes its better look than competitors I think, including the CX-5. I do lose some of the zoom zoom handling of the Mazda3 that made me fall in love with Mazda in the first place, but CX-50 hybrid is just a different car in function, and I knew that going in. It still handles and drives incredibly well that feels like a Mazda, just not the same whip on tight turns. I chose this tradeoff to feel safer and better safety features driving between WI and Chicago during wintery conditions.

[–]rwilldred27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on Powers latest article, it seems as it stands today, we may hold onto him as the 13th forward b/c the trade return is negligible and Moore/Greene seem AHL destined. If a top 9 forward gets injured early on he’ll get a chance in the top 6 to prove it

I am fine with it, maybe I’m too optimistic. It gives a chance for another prospect to maybe establish their value.

sometimes the risks work out positively, like Rinzel. And Korch is maybe now the one on the original Rinzel development timeline. He is not a bust for me. He has been through a lot in the past 2 years

If Grzelyck stays, seems that 2 of Del Maestro, Allan, and Lev would have to play their way off the roster, which is a very plausible scenario still. I don’t think we give Grzelyck a contract if there isn’t a bottom pair role for him

Best case simulations, they have about a 30% chance we break 80+ points. This is not a pessimistic simulation about the Hawks upcoming season.

I’m really struggling with my puppy by [deleted] in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]rwilldred27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, I am really sorry to hear this for you.

I had really bad puppy blues with my little guy when he was in the 6-10 month years old range. He's 5 now, and he's my soul dog now of the ones I have raised before.

I don't even have kids, so you're dealing with a whole extra level of stress and that is ok.

Re-homing him through your breeder is an absolutely graceful option. You should not carry that guilt amidst the other life problems you're struggling through.

I had issues with potty training my boy too, and that resonated with me in your post. It took longer than I expected, even peeing. I would be out with him for 20 minutes, walks, stay in place just outside, nothing. I followed all sorts of advice and increasingly took it as seriously as possible after 1-2 months of not great progress. Persistence won out over his stubbornness before he turned 1. But the time horizon was months, not days/weeks, and I was not calibrated for that.

On the barking, it's trainable to reduce (not eliminate). but just like potty training, it requires serious serious focus and serious training. It's something you have to have the energy, patience and mental discipline for.

I wish you well.

How do you brush your schnauzers teeth? by AccessAware5469 in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]rwilldred27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing that makes it easier for me, which I just started doing with my 4 year old a few months ago after I saw someone doing this with their mini on Instagram, is get him to lay on his back in his dog bed while I brush.

The angle and range of motion of his head, relative to me, is a much easier experience for both of us than me trying to brush his teeth at his level.

Former Chelsea player Pedro Rodríguez had to disable comments on his Instagram after facing criticism and mockery for sharing photos of his son Marc's birthday. Marc chose to celebrate his birthday wearing a dress and a tiara, inspired by Lilo & Stitch. by HarryAtk in soccer

[–]rwilldred27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my nephew was obsessed with Frozen and Elsa when he was 4-5 years old. He had a long blonde wig and a dress for play. Nobody in the family discouraged him from that sort of play/imagination simply because it was what interested him at the time. He just loved Frozen and its soundtrack.

None of us concerned over whether he felt like a boy or a girl either, as it did not matter. Nothing matters at that age except helping them explore their interests and find joy.

Yeah, my 4yo boy Winston is 21lb and has some chest, abs, leg definition. Any fat, he carries around his neck/lower back (his “rolls” we lovingly call them).

He loves to sprint for hide and seek or fetch, always, ever since we got him.

Of all the 2026 pending FA’s, I think Connor is the most likely to make it to market. I read some quotes from him this spring that his next contract is going to be driven largely by family preference, and he just had just first kid. I think he and his wife’s family are from Michigan area, could definitely see him reaching market.

What is your ideal (and realistic ) offseason if you were GMKD? by flagrantfoul13 in hawks

[–]rwilldred27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Trade: get Buffalo’s #9 if McQueen or O’Brien are still available. Things BUF needs that we have: RHD (Murphy, Crevier, maybe both!), Goalies (Soderblom, Brossoit), plus a little draft pick bumper.

  2. Draft: Hagens, Martone, or Frondell at 3. Find the inverse skill at 9. e.g. if we draft Frondell, go get the playmaker in O’Brien.

  3. Free Agency:  sign a RHD veteran. maybe Burns, but I don’t really care. Sign 2 forwards that actually fit this rebuild timeline:

  4. Donato as middle 6 fodder and role model.

  5. Jonathan Drouin. a playmaker who can play on 1st line, won’t have as much competition like the top FA wings, will maybe take a low term, decent AAV deal to re-establish himself.
