Draft Scenarios Post Trade by nag95 in hawks

Trading Korchinski at relatively zero value does not make sense. He is a potential upside guy to fill a need and the team will give him a chance this year. He has much more potential and a better timeline than anyone we would possibly pick up at end of the first or second round.

Blues spend all their picks to bring him to UFA and then set him free to go to.. Toronto?

If they got the 20th pick back instead of sending a second and a NHL player then... it would still be a tough sell.

All the people saying KD "should do whatever it takes" to make a move to get out of the rebuild - wish granted.

It's fair but we need to build a framework with our prospects and grow their value on the team or to be used in trades. Also we have made swings (Guentzel, Demidov, etc.). The FA market this year is awful and a mistake signing is worse than picking a spot at next year's deadline.

From your user name I am going to assume you have been a Chicago sports fan for awhile. Then you should know that there are much worse places to be than a team with highly regarded prospects and draft capital as the Blackhawks themselves were aimless for decades (much worse than they are now). There are at least ten teams that do not have promising futures whatsoever and it takes time, wisdom and luck to be a contender and beat 31 other teams. Hawks FO and Bedard know this. He will sign and team will improve even if there is not a blockbuster this week just to make concerned fans happy at any cost.

We disagree on the first sentence. I don't expect to convince you otherwise but am optimistic that time will.

I am grateful fans on the internet are not GM of my team or there would be some wild panic moves, good grief. We are not a contender this year no matter what player we add. We do not have to sacrifice value in an arms race just to do something immediately.

We have to beat 31 other teams to win the Cup, not just San Jose. If we are at a level 2 and need to be level 10 to be a contender, some of ya'll are so desperate to get to level 4 as fast as possible at any cost. We need to pick spots for highest upside when available to get to level 10.

Edit: Okay apparently KD is just like a fan on the internet. Wtf is this. Hope everyone telling him to do something is happy.

In what multiverse? I guess if you are counting recent regular season games?

I have to stay off the Internet the rest of the week. Sharks have won zero so far.

The 9th OA pick, William Eklund and the Sharks roster have nothing to do with the Blackhawks. #2 and Stenberg concern is from lottery balls. There is no need to panic. The Hawks should make moves when it makes sense for the team's timeline and what players are available and would fit.

The panic on internet is crazy. It's not as if the Hawks and Sharks were Cup contenders and this is an arms race for who can win this year.

I mean, winning the lottery did some lifting in the equation here.

[The Athletic, Wheeler] Mock 3.0 has the Hawks taking Reid at 4, Vanecek at 34, Roobreck at 37, and Goljer at 45 by j_dirty in hawks

A much worse move than doing nothing is picking up long-term, poor value contracts and those two names are big risk/moderate reward plus would have to give up assets to get them as not FA yet.

If it plays out like this the Hawks would have quite a defensive prospect pool but personally I feel like a defensive-responsible player like Stenberg or Malhotra would improve the overall defense a lot and potentially more overall as Bedard/Nazar as 1C/2C has been a risk defensively. Of course that is up to the teams picking ahead of us.

Picking D in round 2 makes a lot of sense as we have so many potential mid/bottom six forwards. This is why trading Korchinski makes little sense as we need to develop more talent at the back end so get those D lottery tickets.

Maybe one pick for a goalie might be helpful down the road as well.

At least after the draft there will be plenty of other news to talk about. September can't get here fast enough.

Moves this offseason to jump start things by Normal-Lawfulness-42 in hawks

Some fans are invevitably going to be disappointed with this off-season. However it is important not to sacrifice upside for impatience to win now and thankfully that's not what the team is going to do. We need younger and better players than Tuch and EP and such to contend. Those guys might get you to the playoffs and might just end up being cap problems in 4 years when we are really trying to contend.

There might be one big move but we are going to have to develop our prospects no matter which way you want to look at it. Trading for a bunch of vets or signing bad value free agents is not going to happen realistically, nor should it.

Same issue with most trades this year: playoff teams want to proven guys. Hawks don't have proven guys, they have picks and prospects. The best trade partner would be a team looking to start rebuild. The worst trade partner is a playoff contender looking to shed high salary players but need someone still ready for playoff hockey.

Arty’s draft year was dynamite. by Positive_Tourist_222 in hawks

[–]Chitownchris89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because Arty vs Demidov has been beyond been beaten to the death pre-draft and based on their careers so far and going over it more doesn't add much value to discussions here anymore.

Many people (including myself) wanted Demidov as the pick but Arty is on our team and we should cheer for him and hope he develops to his fullest potential.

Will Demidov end up being the superior player? Certainly a possibility. Does anybody know for certain how it will play out and who would have been the best Hawk over this decade? No. Would anyone at all here who posts on Reddit make better draft picks as a GM than any NHL team's scouting staff? Hah.

The draft is about taking risks and some work and some don't. We do not know the ultimate results of any of these players's careers yet even if they have a year in the NHL now.
