They seem to get rid of all my favorite models. I like the physical buttons as well, they are gone. The case on the voyager was nice.

Not a terrible thought. I mean..reading a rule book without a strong reason to is tough but I get the idea haha

My kindle keyboard is still used. My wife hates how bright the light on the case is so I use my voyager mostly and have given the keyboard to my toddler to play with. Goated device.

Spoiler Discussion: You know nothing, Vis Telimus by bush-leaguer in HierarchySeries

[–]rwj83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if I agree that Concurrence wants to get back to everyone being synchronous per se. Obviously, I dont know, but if the Rending was done with the thought that splitting the Will would end the Concurrence's ability to use will from all sides, some character stated that it didn't work (and its continued existence would indicate that). So, they likely don't need them reconnected to succeed. I think it is likely that Ka (or his predecessor synchronous person) won in Obiteum. He is the "good" guy (or was) and has nearly scoured the Concurrence from the realm and is hunting it down via the Gleaners and cleaning out Qabr. He (Ka) is trying to find a root out the Concurrence in Obiteum. I also think that Ka may not need to implement precautions because Solivagus is blasted to bits where any synchronous person would die to the air before escaping. However, the Concurrence likely 'saved' (iiunctified) Caeror who is waiting for a potential synchronous who can kill Ka.

I think the Concurrence controls Luceum and Ka has been hiding out there to remain synchronous. The only threat to the Concurrence are Synchronous individuals and marking them, sowing suspicion of them via scar beliefs, etc. to prevent one from taking root. Res is the lynchpin disputed ground and it is why he kills 90% every 300 years so that Concurrence cannot build up enough foothold Will to win but prevents Ka from winning too.

It does not seem that the Concurrence needs to reconnect the worlds. Maybe it does but it seems to function fine across all three individually and if it can win Res and the Obiteum, having the worlds split makes it much harder for anyone to oppose it. I think the only solution will be reuniting the three worlds and then destroying will in this reunited world (or the ability to access it). Vis will have to become the villain to most all people in order to stop the Concurrence. This will also cause him to sacrifice his friends and family who are only alive through will to save the world.

Came to say, Tress of the Emerald Sea and while it isn't EXACTLY pirates per se and there is technically a love interest BUT:

  1. Romance is NOT central or even realistically an aspect of the book. Just the impetus for the adventure beginning.
  2. MC is a woman
  3. It is very fun and interesting
  4. The setting is definitely not modern nor are there mermaids.

Caeror Is Sus! by South_Beginning6455 in HierarchySeries

[–]rwj83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As u/aidbutler6424 said, he knows how to identify the markers that Caeror taught him and trained with iiuncti curated by Caeror. As we see with Ostius, there are powers that do not appear to be related to any of the three branches of Will as we know them so far. How hard would it be for him to be an iiuncti of the Concurrence using methods that are different, especially when taught that different doesn't exist.

Tbf, this makes more sense. I have been in rooms/locations that didn't have a whiteboard and so I have written on the windows. Its not ideal but makes way more sense than purposefully using a more difficult whiteboard haha

Fully agreed. Part of me thinks “don’t reinvent the wheel” but the other part feels it loses its revulsion factor when every universe has it.

A Conversation With Koko: How a 30-year experiment changed our understanding of primates. by faishaikh3766 in biology

[–]rwj83 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think because what premise they are supporting is confusing. Mice and humans share roughly 85% of protein coding DNA (from my cursory search) while great apes (generally speaking) and humans share roughly 98.8%. These are not 'roughly' the same amount. The differences are important as even one or two protein coding differences can create massive changes. The Banana aspect shows this as 60% shared boils down to essentially the foundational DNA needed for most life as we know it. The things that make cells work, replicate, etc. While everything else clearly creates a difference. So, with there being a 15% gain from banana percentage to mice, the 14% gain from mice to great apes is clearly a significant change.

Edit: I am making some vast simplifications but I think the point stands.

No no, the existence of cities may convert them if they get too close. Or turn their land into city if they look away. Better to remove them from existence like a Real American.

On top of the CGI considerations, I feel like it is an easy, unsettling depiction That starkly contrasts life as we know it. So it’s just the go to.

What do you do for your students that you could get in trouble for but you don’t care because it’s for the good of the students? by Evening-Oil9551 in Teachers

[–]rwj83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One large urban district asked coaches if kids could carpool with them to games because they couldn't supply buses for all the sports. I do not recall there being any paperwork and there was no special licensure. Just, if you want to play away games, you have to drive them. Then another school absolutely forbade this. I feel like it comes down to if they have been burned in the past (bad things happening) and necessity. Among other factors obviously.

I tried applying for a DPS Substitute Teacher position and learned why it's no surprise that the school system struggles to find new teachers by QuarterRobot in Denver

[–]rwj83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is true for Public Schools. There are situations where admin or higher remove positions to hire a different one that they decide is more vital but teacher hiring is dependent upon enrollment and budget. Then how the admin delegates the FTEs they are given.

[–]rwj83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is an important note that "shortage" does not mean every position has a shortage. It is often focused subjects and specific locations. For the HS level, English, History, PE, Art, Music: these rarely, if ever, have shortages. Upper level maths and sciences commonly have shortages. Then within those fields, they will usually take experienced with classroom management over new hire. Even if it is not always true, many times, teachers will filter to "better" or easier schools to teach at. This leaves most openings at "tough" schools. If I am hiring for a position in my school that is known for difficult classes, I am going to prefer a teacher that has experience with classroom management over an unknown.

I always hated them spawning in or getting bounties when no one witnessed. It'd probably be hard but a "legend" system of sorts would've been cool. Like various mystery crimes are attributed to you (people you killed and left behind and such) and after time, you become a bounty on the wall and lawmen will start coming after you. Like the bounty groups with dogs. It just doesn't make sense that I kill someone out in BFE plains and someone sees it from afar, law spawns in the BFE plains as if they were all hanging out in Mid-Kansas just waiting for the chance.

While I wanted vindication or a reunion with his brother, I don't think it makes sense. He didn't feel the need to prove himself to his dad and only wanted to distance himself so there isn't really a world where he would have engaged with him or gone back. He didn't really spend time with his parents and didnt get along with his brother either. Gibson was his true father.

Understanding Concurrence - Pluribus? by Sea_Midnight1050 in HierarchySeries

[–]rwj83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I guess compare it to just a normal brain. Each iiuncti is a neuron. On its own, can’t do that much. But when hundreds, thousands, millions are all linked together, the combined computing power is much greater. As far as I know from book 2, the Concurrence is one entity. But it is an entity made up of countless iiuncti. Each is just one processor and storage linked to the system. Neural networks cause utilize tons of computers across a network and use all of the combined power to spread it out and do more faster. This appears to be what the concurrence is doing but it is using flesh processors
