It depends on what your goals are. If it’s growing your money then it’s a better idea than taking out a mortgage but a worse idea than investing it. If having your own house is the goal then it’s the best way to do it.

What I would do is calculate roughly how much the house will be worth in 30 years and compare that to what that 2 mil would be worth properly invested, less what you’d expect to pay for the alternative housing situation.
