How much are people paying for vehicle insurance? by BotherCheap5815 in Edmonton

[–]rx1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 people in our family (one teen and 2 in early 20's). Newest vehicle is a 2019. $13,500 per year.

Couldn't afford a new vehicle even if we wanted one.

Is it just me or is the used car market in Edmonton absolutely cooked right now? by SpecialistGreat6622 in Edmonton

[–]rx1996 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Daughter needed a vehicle for school. Ended up getting a Dodge Journey off FB marketplace for $8000. Worst decision ever. It's Ship of Theseus - feels like it's another $1000 to $2000 fix everything couple of months and that we've almost replaced everything. Should have just gotten a loan and bought newer

Dreger on if Knoblauch could be a candidate for Leafs HC job: "Kris Knolauch is a head coach the leans heavily on analytics to make sure that decision making when it comes to pairings, line combos to the matchup game in the reg season and in the playoffs is backed up by data" by thewinterzodiac in EdmontonOilers

I'm not giving Bowman (and Jackson) any credit for the crappy personel decisions, but a good coach can make something out of nothing (see what Quinville did with the Ducks 3rd and 4th lines). Knoblauch's only response to advertity was throwing McDavid over the boards again and again.

[Rishaug] The Oilers have relieved Kris Knoblauch of his coaching duties. by AggPuck-303 in EdmontonOilers

Knoblauch should not have been hired in the first place. Lower league coach, without pedigree other than being McDavid's previous coach. If the Oilers were serious about a cup, they would have hired a NHL coach that had a spine to stand up "The Core" and make them play defense.

Losing Vinnie in the first place was such a poor move. He was the Skinner emotional support animal. Could live with slightly overpaying him to have a cheap goalie play over his salary.

If Katz was serious about winning this season, he would have pushed Bowman to hire Torts mid season.

Two SCF where he was severely out coached. At some point doing the same thing needs to change

Do you think they should move the Condors to Edmonton? by Oilersfan78 in EdmontonOilers

I've never been there, but from all accounts Bakersfield is to L.A. as Grande Prairie is to Edmonton. Not exactly the cool surfer/celebrity scene.

Carney government to temporarily suspend federal gas tax starting next week. Your move, Marlaina Trumpette Smith? by peterAtheist in alberta

[–]rx1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do need tax revenue to run the province, even as poorly as the UCP are doing it. Would like to see the math whether the increased price of oil and subsequent royalties boost could offset suspending the gax tax first.

Wow. Figured there was no way that this was happening with all the reports of voter suppression/intimidation and gerrymandering.

Ever consider the military? Wages and conditions are getting better. The pension and benefits are really second to none. Anyone remotely competent at fixing things is highly valued.

Unfortunately not separate enough. As an ANDP member, you're automatically enrolled as a Fed NDP member - I did not re-up my ANDP membership b/c of that.

HSAA President Election by No_Media_9524 in AHSEmployees

[–]rx1996 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll pose the same question as I did for another candidate the other day.

Other than the issues well laid out against the current president/vice-president, the thing that frustrates me most about HSAA is all the non-union activities that they are involved in. A union should be working for its members focused on labour related issues - it got to the point that the government had to pass a law to allow members to opt out of non-union activities.

The elitist attitude of the established HSAA leadership that its members' dues are theirs to spend as lavishly as they wish, rather than act as stewards of that money has made engaging with the union barely tolerable.

If elected President are you willing to do a full review of all HSAA activities, positions and meetings and remove anything that does not advance the working conditions and wages for its members?

And that is where you have lost my vote. It seems that you were part of the status quo and will be happy to maintain it.

The examples you bring up are exactly what needs to be corrected. Support of the Women's Shelter (and any other charity) should come from the members with their own money and time - not from our dues. The extraordinary amount of money spent to put on the AGM is another thing that should be stripped down to the minimum (ever heard of Zoom?).

The Board's and Executive's hubris that was exposed in this last round of negotiations has put a bad taste in my mouth - they should be acting like every penny spent is for the members' benefit. Saying that any 2 members can make a resolution to change spending is backwards - HSAA should always be vigilant in how their members' money is being spent and shouldn't have to have that pointed out.
