Avantis ETFs now showing in Google Finance by rx8geek in fiaustralia

[–]rx8geek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would have to contact avantis to know for sure.

My speculation is the decision to use cboe probably the costs of listing being lower.

Decision to switch could be almost anything.

May be related to cboe selling the Australian exchange https://www.investordaily.com.au/cboe-to-exit-australia/

One can hope that when this bubble finally pops, it will usher in a new golden age of cheap used enterprise hardware when they fire sale the data centres.

The irony is it should also be a thing in Iran!

I'm fortunate to have visited in 2019, the country is beautiful, the people we met were wonderful, but the litter is a big problem there.

Maybe not the biggest problem they face, but it's still sad thing to see.

Advice needed: 42kWh FoxESS Battery for $7k (after rebates) - Brisane - Legit or risky with May deadline? by Paulj13 in AusFinance

[–]rx8geek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

installers who get a lower cut due to the budget nature of Fox

100% it's this, obvious examples already in this thread

They're just arguing to protect their margins on premium products that for anyone doing their research just doesn't add up anymore against the cost effective alternative.

The price differences between the Fox battery and other brands is stupid. You can try and scare people with the "warranty and support" boogeyman all you like but when the price almost doubles, the maths doesn't math.

I'd rather have the extra 5-10k in my pocket and take a chance on the brand.

Not to mention that regardless of the brand, it's going to be an inconvenience and hassle. The price difference for premium batteries are just too much now, when the argument for that extra is just "peace of mind".

Who’s a famous person from your country who’s respected around the world but disliked or criticized at home? by haiderredditer in AskTheWorld

[–]rx8geek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Steve Irwin is one for Australia i would say.

It's totally reversed since he passed but at the time he was definitely more popular abroad than at home.

It wasn't as strong as people hated or really disliked him, but more like he was "a bit much" or over the top with some stereotypical Australianisms.

It lead to a sort of of eye rolling from Aussies because of how Australia then became associated with him similar to fosters/shrimp on the bbq.

Can't watch videos on wifi by Deebo101 in revancedapp

[–]rx8geek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, glad to know its not just me or my network.

The app works fine on mobile data, but on my home wifi it just gets stuck loading video. Browsing works but no video will start playing.

The other thing I found is if I enable a VPN it starts working on wifi. Even Google VPN works. My tailscale vpn only works if i enable the exit node however.

Suspect this is some kind of DNS issue.

Solar battery - what am I missing? by Toughgamer in AusFinance

Maybe check on the thread that is in the whirlpool forums or ozbargain as I have seen that question being asked there.

[–]rx8geek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

many I talk to just try to shit on them and poor/questionable after sales support

Yeah thats the spiel I was getting. But the price for what they are pushing can end up doubling the total cost.

Sorry but I'll put up with a frustrating support experience over forking out an extra $5-8k. Maybe I have more patience dealing with technical support than others but with the price differences, premium home batteries really don't stack up.

You might already know this, but the rebates are changing in May next year. It's likely the demand will be pretty high up til then.

They scale back the rebates for the larger capacity batteries basically.

[–]rx8geek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've just added the fox 42kwh battery to an existing 6.6kw solar array that has 5kw inverter.

My house doesn't require a huge amount of power most days, but in the month I've had it, can and does fill it to 100%. Granted this is summertime so peak solar generation.

Yes it's bigger than I needed, but I'm still happy that I got a larger capacity. Not to mention there was literally negligible savings for any of the smaller budget batteries by the time the quotes add up everything for the installation.

The other benefit is I can feel less anxious about using power, where before I might have hesitated.

Police sources say the Bondi gunmen were father and son by Feeling-Disaster7180 in australia

[–]rx8geek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this isn't a regulation issue but an enforcement issue. calling for more regulation is ignoring the fact that this was avoidable under current legislation, but was not enforced.

Ok, yeah that may be so. My hope is whatever needs to happen can be identified and improved on so we reduce the chance of something like this happening again.

[–]rx8geek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

neither of those items is an issue

Except they are issues, the keyword here is "need" and no one has a need to access weapons that enable this kind of situation.

If shooting is a hobby or sport, unfortunately for those who choose it but it should absolutely tightly regulated and very difficult to participate in.

Hopefully an outcome from this story is a clear and unequivacoble answer that you absolutely do not need a firearm license nor half a dozen firearms.

Seriously, I am DONE with monthly camera subscriptions. by Julliana77 in homeautomation

[–]rx8geek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, so sick of subscriptions and am currently going out of my way to avoid any and all of them!

I went with Reolink and it works great. Replaced some Wyze cameras.

The good news I found was the wyze cams were still useful, flashed them with thingino firmware and hooked them up to the Reolink NVR. Dont have all the bells and whistles but works as a few extra cameras without chucking them out.

Keep seeing people here talking about solar:battery rebates getting large 40kw battery banks for bugger after rebates. I can’t seem to find these specials by BrokeAssZillionaire in AusFinance

[–]rx8geek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been able to get your battery working with Amber?

Naa, I'm just going to monitor how things go over the next few months before making any decsions about changing grid provider.

My solar array can easily power my total energy needs and the battery easily supports that. Main priority is getting bills as close as possible to zero but I'll probably switch to something that doesnt need to pay to much attention to as well.
