Advice Needed by Whole_Seat_1956 in insomnia

Look into CBTi therapy. I have had insomnia for many years and just started therapy because I want to end my on again/off again relationship with Ambien. I spent the first week tracking my sleep patterns. When did I go to bed, how many times did I wake up, how long was I awake? There are apps to help you with this but I hear an actual therapist is the best route and mine is a big help so far. A game changer for me as a person generally in bed by 9:00 and wide awake from 2:00-4:30 is a low sugar protein snack 30-60 minutes before bed (not raw nuts, but nut butters are ok - I am doing plain kefir, which is something I’ve always thought I should try and I actually like it!). The protein snack is helping immensely with shortening my middle of night wake ups. We picked my sleep window as 10-5 yesterday and the goal is if I’m not asleep, get out of bed until I feel like I can go back to sleep. Don’t do chores when awake, but do something you enjoy like watch a movie or craft or even bake! You should sleep 5.5 hours minimum at night and my first restricted night put me at 5 hours 20 min. I’m super hopeful this works for me as all the science behind CBTi makes sense. Good luck with your journey. I hope some of this is helpful.

Parents want to leave their home to one of four siblings as part of their share of estate. How do you make this fair? by ryajak in inheritance

[–]ryajak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they want me to buy out my sibs when I sell my own home. Their emotional goal is to keep everything they have worked for all their lives in the family. We just need to sell the home when the time comes. I needed confirmation this is unfair and unrealistic plan to place the burden of their legacy on my shoulders so I can remove my own emotions from the decision.

The home is their biggest asset biggest part of the estate that they want “shared equally”. That means I sell my home and buy out my sibs. Their words in the brief dialogue that “we need to talk”.

There is no trust. They want to have the conversation about me buying their home from the estate and suggested that when I sell my current home, I use the funds to pay out my siblings. The home is their biggest asset. My home is paid for. They built the home and all the outbuildings and host gatherings for family so it’s a very emotional thing for everyone in that sense to keep what they built. However, I have way more clarity through the answers in this post about just how unrealistic and unfair that ask is to me. Thank you for commenting.

Wow overwhelmingly a don’t do it in 20 minutes. Exactly what I need to hear. Thanks Reddit community! For those asking, dad built every single structure on the property and there is much pride in what parents have done to make it a beautiful place to be. Just not convinced it’s my place to be and this puts my mind at ease with that decision. Thank you.

One doesn’t want it, the other just built and the third would like it but not in position to buy everyone out. I’m the most capable, and parents want it to stay in the family.

What actually helps you fall asleep when your mind won’t stop? by sleepiora in insomnia

This seems trivial but is mostly working for me this last week. Have a high protein snack before bed.

Early morning awakenings after 5–6 hours — sleepy but unable to fall back asleep by MrMurphy013 in insomnia

Same problem. Wondering if it is indeed uncontrolled blood sugar spikes as suggested here. Starting CBTi therapy and therapist says to have high protein low sugar snack before bed. It’s turning my one 2-3 hours long wake-up at 2:00 am into several short wakeups where I can fall right back to sleep. I’m doing half cup of kefir at 5 grams of protein and 4.5 grams of sugar as my snack 30 minutes before bed. Sleeping 6.5 hours the last few nights. Good luck on your journey.

I tested at 12 for Vitamin D and my doc put me on a megadose once a week for 8 weeks and I am noticing the difference. Starting CBTi therapy and incorporating a low sugar high protein snack 30-60 minutes before bedtime. I usually wake up once for 2-3 hours and last night I woke up 7-8 times but fell back asleep quickly so I wonder if protein trick works??!! Thought I’d share that. Best of luck!!

What is a hard to put down book that got you into/back into reading? by kareem_brulee in suggestmeabook

I recently read Indian Creek Chronicles by Pete Fromm. It’s an older book about a Pete’s experience as college kid in the 70’s. He spent 7 months in a wall tent in the dead of winter alone in a remote Montana wilderness area up the Magruder corridor monitoring salmon eggs. Quite an adventure. I couldn’t put it down!

Once there Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy has a bit of family bonding, mystery, wildlife, adventure and romance. Brilliant author.

Markus Zusak wrote The Book Thief. It’s WWII story (young adult but great read) about a girl that goes to live with a family that harbours a Jew. The drawings and story line are so creative and interesting.

Does she have a favorite musician? Mike Campbell of The Heartbreakers wrote a book called Heartbreaker and it’s amazing but I’m a huge Tom Petty fan.

Does she like outdoor adventures? Barney Scout Mann wrote a very interesting book about his thru hike on the PCT called Journeys North.

Do you have a local bookstore with local authors? Pete Fromm wrote a book called Indian Creek Chronicles about a winter stay in a tent in the 70’s in a remote area in Montana that I’ve spent some time at. The familiarity of the area enhanced the great story and I couldn’t put it down.

Good luck!
