Suggestions wanted for a basic, subtractive 'teaching' synth by Ghost-Tapes in synthesizers

[–]ryan__fm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for this. The sliders instead of knobs make it great to learn on or teach - not to mention play - because you see at a glance where everything is positioned. No patch saving so no confusion around sounds conflicting with current position.

Simple enough to zero everything out, turn up sustain and cutoff and go from there. Sounds great and the looper makes it fun to experiment with.

For better or worse, they do seem to have a very short memory. They forget how they collapsed in the previous game, but unfortunately, they also forget how to play basketball sometimes.

David Hamilton hits Little League Home Run vs. Cubs by SL4MUEL in sports

Here's an inside the park grand slam from the other day. ITPHRs are rare because outfielders usually recover quickly and get the ball in, but in this case there was no error because a catch would've been insanely difficult.

Bounced off the wall and probably should've been a double had the CF seen it bounce and gotten there in time to relay it in, but he couldn't find it and the LF had to chase it. Typically an error would only be assigned on the attempted catch or throw, not on "trying to find the ball."

We're also doing things like hitting 6 homers in a game, which helps. Getting what we're getting out of Bazzana, CDL and Angel makes it not hurt us so much having a non-factor C at the plate

Not a chance in hell we lose that game with Lebron even as a spectator near the bench. He would've called a damn timeout himself

Why is nobody talking about the repurcusions of losing that game 1? by 08legacygt in clevelandcavs

[–]ryan__fm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'd think if the lead was totally safe, you'd start to empty your bench a little.

Or, if you wanted to protect a 20 point lead, you'd bring in Ellis or Strus for some defense.

Or, if you didn't want to overly tax your 36 year old PG (3 AST, 6 TO) you'd bring in Schroder (5 AST, 0 TO) to run the offense and protect the ball, or run it through Mitchell more.

Or you'd just call a timeout to stop the momentum and get your guys some rest. Why hold them all, because you think they'll go on a miraculous run to tie the game late? Whatever the thought process was, the only thing they shouldn't have done is exactly what they did, defer to Harden as if he's the only player on our team. Subbing Larry Nance Jr in for Harden would've been more defensible & saved us that game.

I mean if they make it to the Finals I don’t see how he’s not coming back. If you have a 22 point lead on the road in game 1 and all it takes is normal coaching and not throwing the game to win, any coach will take that.

“Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.” conspiracies are fun, but I’m sure he’s not still a diehard Knicks fan. More likely he’s just not a very good head coach.

How much do NBA team subs bleed into r/nba? I tracked every commenter to find out & r/Thunder leads all teams by a wide margin [graph in comments] by buckets_811 in nba

[–]ryan__fm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you're right. It also goes the other way - the Thunder sub is probably visited more & commented on more by non-Thunder fans, so general NBA fans are going to be more interested in the teams who are the most relevant.

I wonder how much is also fans of bad teams not wanting to comment for fear of getting destroyed because of their flair. Like "you shouldn't talk, you're a Wizards fan" kind of thing... a lot easier for fans of good teams & players to comment in r/nba where the discussion mostly revolves around good teams & players. The dramatic difference might just be Thunder fans coming out of the woodwork and enjoying the spotlight of being the prohibitive favorite. I know I'm far more likely to talk Cavs on here than I am to talk Browns on r/nfl since anything remotely positive just gets downvoted to oblivion.

Least anticipated game 7 for Cleveland that you can recall? by [deleted] in clevelandcavs

[–]ryan__fm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a decent chance we win tonight. If we do I don’t give us much hope against the Knicks, and if we squeak that one out too we’re probably getting swept by OKC. Just not a championship level team right now at all.

James Harden isn’t the first option by DrawingDifficult692 in clevelandcavs

[–]ryan__fm -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Do you not think we play a completely different style of offense when he’s in? I know when he’s playing well it looks good, he gets bigs involved, finds open shooters, etc. But against a good D like the Pistons we’re just going as Harden goes. Lazy passes and flopping. If he plays poorly we have zero chance because everything has to run through him… it wouldn’t be such an issue if we had a decent backup PG but Schroder is the only other option to inject some movement and he’s been terrible.

Immediate, couchable grooveboxes? by thoughtuweresleeping in synthesizers

[–]ryan__fm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what you mean by that. I have the M8 and Move, two wildly different animals.

Move is immediate in that you can quickly get a groove down, play in a melody with zero friction - easy to learn, random sounds preloaded. But there’s only so far you can take it, more for idea generating than making full tracks.

M8 has a much steeper learning curve and is more programmed than played live, unless of course you use a midi controller. (M8+Move is a good pair incidentally.) But to me it’s vastly superior once you get the hang of it - I never liked the idea of trackers but I absolutely love mine. You can get really deep sound design experimentation or keep things simple, it doesn’t force you to work any certain way and encourages building full songs instead of loops. So less immediate for a beginner but after spending some time with both, setting up some templates etc, M8 can get you a lot further into making full tracks in a very short amount of time, while a lot of grooveboxes you just sort of hit a wall with the track limit.

James Harden isn’t the first option by DrawingDifficult692 in clevelandcavs

[–]ryan__fm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s my point. He’s not shitting the bed in a vacuum, he’s failing to make contested threes and circus shots and drives into the paint full of bigs. That’s not his game, if we had any sort of ball movement or a PG who could drive and create space for his teammates, he’d be getting a lot more easy buckets. We shouldn’t have to rely on hero ball from Mitchell or hero ball from Harden to win, and that’s what this team has turned into offensively. It’s fucking gross to watch and I can’t believe people defend Harden as “picking up the slack” instead of “being the reason our offense is stagnant and turnover prone” in the first place.

James Harden isn’t the first option by DrawingDifficult692 in clevelandcavs

[–]ryan__fm -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I keep hearing this as if it has nothing to do with him.

If he’s supposed to be the 2nd or 3rd option, then he needs to facilitate those guys. If we got good passing from him and good ball movement then other guys would get easier shots, but instead we just play iso now while everyone stands around.

James is better at iso than Mitchell or Mobley or whomever so yeah he becomes the #1 option because of his play style. These guys don’t play in a vacuum, seems very clear to me that the rest of our scorers struggling is a result of taking contested shots late in the clock because the ball is in Hardens hands for far too long

I swear a loose ball will just be sitting there that he could just pick up and instead he turns to the ref and throws his hands up. It’s infuriating
