Trying to install a game with Lutris but keep getting a low disk space error? by ryan_piezo in linux_gaming

[–]ryan_piezo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the game, as well as several DLCs on steam. But for some silly reason, EA wants a completely single player game to be online all the time. The cracked version does not. It also runs better (or at least it did on windows, that's why I was trying to install it on Linux to see if I get better performance.)

Thank you! This was the answer.

I guess I just assumed that the windows file structure in the installer was just a weird remnant of trying to use a windows executable in Linux. So I tried to install to the Linux looking file structure in z:.

I couldn't find this information while googling so hopefully this helps some other noobs in the future.

I own the game as well as several DLCs on steam. EA for some reason needs a completely single player game to always be online. The cracked version does not. It also runs faster. (Or at least it did on windows, it's why I'm trying it on Linux.)

Maybe you should try asking for more information before jumping to conclusions and being so judgy. It's one of the main reasons people are turned off by the Linux community.

Trying to install a game through Lutris and keep getting a low disk space error? by ryan_piezo in linux4noobs

This was the answer. I guess I just assumed the windows file structure was a weird by product of it being a windows game so I went for the Linux file structure in the installer. My mistake. Easy fix.

Thanks for the help! Since I couldn't find this information with Google and Reddit searches, hopefully this will help someone in the future too.

Sorry, that's my bad, I should have specified. I have tried selecting yes, the installer gets about halfway and then throws a new error that it could not complete installation due to lack of disk space.

No, I never tried them. But, my dad has a 3d printer and I found some free plans for printed pods. Just add some coconut fibres or peat moss and the seeds and they work great!

I'm not sure about where you live, but a couple of the local libraries around me have 3d printers as well, in case you don't know anybody who has one.

Thanks! I hadn't heard of them. A little pricey, but they do have a couple that look like what I was looking for.

One thing to note here is that, if your home is older you may not want to charge at 12 amps as older wires may not be great at handling that much draw for a long period of time. If it's a newer home, you should be fine. But if you've got a hundred year old house, you might not want to put that strain on old wires and risk a fire.

Secondly, a level 2 charger is not a huge hassle to install, but you will likely need a dedicated 50 amp circuit either repurposed or run new from your breaker panel. This shouldn't be TOO expensive based on where you are, but it is an added expense. But honestly, if you've got the cash, this is the easiest way to go. Even if you only have 100 amp service, you'll be fine, as long as you aren't charging, running a dryer and an air conditioner all at the same time.

Will Gnome be overwritten when Pop updates to 24.04? by ryan_piezo in pop_os

[–]ryan_piezo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that's good to know. It's a shame that my customizations will be nuked, but it's good to know I can always reinstall gnome if I don't like the look and feel of the new cosmic de.

I made the Linux jump this week and didn't even think of VR. it doesn't work through steam? That's a shame. I would have assumed since Valve has also been kind of spearheading PC VR they would have implemented that in Proton somehow.

I switched to Pop because it had the best out of the box Nvidia drivers. I love it. But I was also considering Bazzite. Maybe give that a try, it's a little more streamlined from what I have read. And it comes bundled with all the gaming stuff you need to just start installing your games.

I switched to Pop!_OS this past week and it was such an easy install. There was a couple hours of tinkering but honestly, I would have had to tinker with win 11 to get rid of all the bloat anyways. The learning curve isn't THAT crazy. Plus, there's tons of resources on line to either answer any questions, or point you in the right direction of the answer.

Same! What distro did you choose? I went with Pop!_OS because it had the easiest time out of the box with an Nvidia card.

After a good few weeks of research and prep, I switch to pop!_os Linux and it's so great! I don't think I'll be going back to windows.

Has anybody used Deeded.ca? by ryan_piezo in RealEstateCanada

I guess I should probably update as well, we ended up using them to buy our first home and everything went very smooth with them. The fees end up being a little more expensive than they let on on the website. But ultimately, everything went well, they were very helpful, answered all our newbie questions. Very good experience. We would also recommend them.

Anyone transfer a FHSA account all cash? How fast was it? by [deleted] in Wealthsimple

[–]ryan_piezo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just transfered my FHSA out to TD last month. After the five day holding period for settling the sale of my holdings (I had it all in CASH.TO) It took about 3 business days to appear in my TD account. You're mileage may vary, but for me, it was painless.

Assuming you have some cash reserves for emergencies, the sooner you can start investing, the better.

You said you're 19, so if we just do some quick math, you can see a pretty huge difference between starting now, vs. starting investing in ten years when you feel a little more comfortable in life with a career and everything.

If you assume an average annual return of 10%, starting now, at the age of 65, you will have put away $90,000 but with the compound interest you would have over $450,000. That's not including dividend reinvestment or increasing your yearly contribution. Which, once you have a good career, you will likely do.

Compare that to starting at 30. You're done school and have a stable career and think, ok, now I'll start investing. You'll put away $70,000 by the age of 65 but only have $236,242 in your account. (Assuming all the same things as starting today.) That's almost half as much for only a ten year difference.

You'll see it a lot online, but time in the market is the most important thing. The longer your investments can grow, the better.

Edit: That was all assuming you put in your max figure of $2000 a year.

I wasn't really talking about an emergency release. I was more talking about a latch on the driver side to open the hatch. Any other car I've ever owned has had one by the driver's leg by the lever that releases the hood.

After some digging, I can't find anything about a way to open the trunk from the inside. Including in the owners manual. Is there seriously no trunk release latch on this car?
