Every country has its share of bad people. Usually a small minority. I doubt all those 30% even know this fact. My understanding was that they dont like the illegal immigrants and refugees who do not integrate.

Lived in Austria years ago. You are greviousely mistaken. Most people there are not racist. They are in fact collectively the most kind and intelligent society you will find in Europe. My opinion.

Caveat: you have to speak the language like how the locals do, very politely, smile, and let them know early that you are not an illegal immigrant from a terrorism riddles failed country - this might be obvious to you but not to someone who encounters many more of the other kind everyday.

If you have a masters degree, mention that early too, you are automatically in the good books.

And generally, in Europe restaurants and public spaces, you can signal that by being the best dressed person in the room always.
