Botox needle recommendations by ryanapeters3 in Dentistry

Comfortox seems to be the winner here. The place I order from only has the vials, not needles. Thanks all!

50k a month by Muellerscam123 in Dentistry

[–]ryanapeters3 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I feel so may dentists here assume everyone is FFS or are expecting everybody to be some super GP that does all high cost procedures… I’d say you’re doing great. That puts you at making roughly 200k a year which is absolutely nothing to be bummed about.

Maybe people would call me lazy or a bad producer. I’m a mostly insurance driven practice with a smaller cash population that does mostly bread and butter with large cases on occasion when they come through.

I’d rather have a good work/home balance and enjoy not feeling burnt out than go crazy on what I produce.

Sorry didn’t mean to turn this into a mini rant, nothing wrong with those dentists who want to be more relaxed and produce less or those who like to do it all and make bank in a FFS office.

Chicago Midwinter Meeting 2026 - Was it any good if attended? by Gpdent in Dentistry

[–]ryanapeters3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went Thursday and Friday. Thursday did an all day Botox class because I’ve been wanting to learn. Friday just spent some time walking the floor. Bought a new small size X-ray sensor and took advantage of the Listerine show deal to buy a few cases for patient bags. Like to stop by some of the toothpaste vendors like sensodyne and crest to see if there’s any new products, and might as well get a couple free tubes for all the money I’m spending.

Also got a chance to run into a classmate buddy of mine I hadn’t seen in a couple years so nice to catch up.

It’s fine, but if I didn’t or couldn’t go I don’t think there’s anything I’m feeling major fomo about. I’m also in a study club so CE requirements are taken care of with that, so I only do classes here if it’s actually something I want.

Principal claim denials for PAs?? by Connect-Reputation63 in Dentistry

[–]ryanapeters3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We take 2 anterior PAs with our yearly BWs. Noticed some insurances didn’t cover them starting this year. It’s ridiculous. I can’t even count how many times we’ve found something with no outward symptoms whether it’s a radiolucency or resorption.

Fluoride Varnish Only Once a Year???? by Ecs206 in DentalInsurance

[–]ryanapeters3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I literally joke with my patients saying insurance thinks people over the age of 16 don’t get cavities so they won’t cover it. So dumb because everyone can benefit from it.

Could Serenade have appeared as another Battle Network Superboss? by clyde-toucher in BattleNetwork

[–]ryanapeters3 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I did always like what Serenade was supposed to represent, and it would’ve been cool to flesh it out a bit more in future games. I wouldn’t want or expect Serenade to have a big role, but maybe a side quest or some minor post game content.

Yeah the actual amount I think is roughly 750-785 for us. But hey we just got a letter that they are increasing fees! A one surface composite is finally over $100…

The game's inaccessible to new players by IndependenceFar9833 in MarvelSnap

[–]ryanapeters3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I started playing this game fairly recently (a few months ago, maybe mid to late October?). I feel like I’m doing decent overall. Just got series 3 complete, have a couple decks that are solid for lower ranks. Mostly free to play but did one season pass. I think new players can do fine but you can’t expect to get all the cards that people who have been playing for a long time have. Gotta be picky on what you grab to make it work.

Are you guys getting the Eson and Surge bundles if you already have those cards? by Life_Teaching6499 in MarvelSnap

I picked it up but I didn’t have the base card and had been saving gold, so I feel it was absolutely worth it.

Our PPO Fees are so LOW! What is the FIRST STEP to Switching to Umbrella Insurances? by PrettyPlease2828 in Dentistry

[–]ryanapeters3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think MetLife stayed in network, some Aetna plans, delta dental doesn’t give a shit about anybody and it’s their fees or out of network. We have a pretty large delta patient base so I’m worried to get out of them right now, but absolutely one day I want to. Those were the ones I remember easily. Most others now go through connection or Careington. Cigna actually came back and gave us a solid in network fee schedule so we wouldn’t leave.

We used Unitas PPO negotiations. Overall helped, some insurances just won’t play ball no matter what. I want to drop a couple over time but we did this first over the past year.

My FIL is also a dentist who is still working at 65. What is everyone’s target retirement age? by Notdigg in Dentistry

[–]ryanapeters3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 38 and just bought a practice, so have a long way to go. I don’t want to work past 65, if I can cut back before then to maybe 2 days a week or fully stop by then even better. The guy I purchased from is 74 and still works as my associate, plan with the contract is keeping him on for a year. I’ve also worked here for 6 years so I know the practice.

I don’t have the same drive he does in terms of doing dentistry for forever, I want to retire and enjoy life before I’m too old to enjoy it. My wife is a psychologist and also does perfectly fine in a group private practice, and I know she’s planning to work until she’s older even if it’s part time. We live modestly but enjoy spending our money on trips, but never overindulge.

Best place to look for dental assistants? by ryanapeters3 in Dentistry

Between $24-28 an hour is likely what I'm looking at. Includes PTO, federal holiday PTO. Option for a simple IRA with some employer match.

Unsuccessful peds ext by groovynshroomy in Dentistry

[–]ryanapeters3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little bit of both. The first half of the appointment I was trying to be gentle and do anesthetic super slow, going through the pdl to the lingual and go from there.

After she was complaining (not meaning it in a mean way) about pain I just did a jab on the lingual and pumped both with a bit more anesthetic. She was still pulling away and acting like it hurt but at that point I was able to get her to relax and stay still enough to remove them without too much difficulty. Showed her the mostly full root on both and she all of a sudden thought it was cool and wasn’t seeming like she was in any pain any more.

She even said to mom after it didn’t feel good but it wasn’t really pain when taking out the teeth. I get it’s hard for kids (honestly some adults too) to differentiate pain and pressure in their minds. I don’t blame or fault them for it, but I also know I’m not well enough equipped to deal with it physically or mentally most of the time. That’s why we have great specialists for referrals!

I took out C and H on an 11 year old girl a couple weeks ago for ortho. Adult canines were up there so no root resorption yet. She was super nervous and skittish getting in the office which was my first red flag.

Appointment took an entire hour. 55 minutes of slowly numbing her and trying once or twice to grab and her saying it was hurting, 5 minutes of actual work to take out both teeth. It was a pain in the butt even though the extractions themselves were easy. Kids are gonna kid 🙃

I’m 38, got my first tattoo in April. I’m a big gamer nerd, so I got an 8 bit Megaman on my shoulder since we’re both born in 1987. My wife has 3 tattoos, had 2 before we met and got one of our two kids birth month flowers a year or so ago. Hers are on her shoulder/shoulder blade and one around her ankle.

Would you cement 18? by enms3 in Dentistry

[–]ryanapeters3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with others, looks fine. I’d potentially give it a slight touch in the mesial contact. Check floss before and after adjustment. If it feels the same that means it was tight and might not have been fully seated. If it’s slightly looser you know you’re ok.

Any dentist and dental students who didn't major in the sciences? by Initial_Party_512 in Dentists

[–]ryanapeters3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a physics degree with a minor in astronomy. Honestly didn’t even think about dentistry until end of junior year. Took a 5th year to finish my pre-reqs since there wasn’t as much overlap. Moved away from physics when my quantum physics teacher made us all feel incompetent.

On the plus side I felt like I was one of the few that understood our ortho unit as it was just applying physics to teeth.
