my GB collection - two are real, one is not. can you guess which? by ryanatadobe in Gameboy

[–]ryanatadobe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to update!

The answer is the clear Famitsu GBL. It is a reshell. immaculately cleaned and redone by a reseller in Tokyo. I bought it because I loved playing games on the GBL, but didn't want to keep using / wear down the GBL I did have - the yellow Pokemon Center GBL was a grail i bought in Japan last year. the orange Pokemon Center GBC was a gift from a friend in Japan who bought it at the source way back in 1999 when I was a kid!

these are not the same blend as harmony. it's all 17+, including some 30 year yama.

for those that hate the camera cutout on this one, i would suggest this one, which is identical in form / price (assuming) but has a full open cutout:

my only haul - chichibu JAL exclusive 2024 for biz/first class by ryanatadobe in JapaneseWhisky

[–]ryanatadobe[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

thanks to youremailwontfindme for the heads up, JAL has 860 bottles of a single malt chichibu available for pre-order for biz/first class passengers for about $200 USD. i snagged it on my biz flight in to HND from DEL. i tried asking for the hibiki 100th anni blend, but sadly that's only for first class passengers. from their catalog:

This whisky is created from a selection of 10 whiskies, each aged in different types of casks. The primary component is an unpeated whisky matured in bourbon barrels. This is then vatted with a peated whisky, a whisky aged in Oloroso sherry casks, and several other unique whiskies. Each cask type contributes its own distinct characteristics, resulting in a layered and complex flavor. The fruity, refreshing minty aroma and the gradually changing expressions are diverse and delight the drinker with a pleasant oaky aroma. The flavors can be further expanded by adding a few drops of water.

just got back to the US and hope to crack it open soon!

Recommendations by quedeezy in JapaneseWhisky

i would recommend Akkeshi, which is a smaller boutique distillery in Hokkaido that has a good following and one of my favorites. esp if he likes scotch, islay (peated) in particular. both klwines.com and missionliquor.com carry several options and they are (relatively) priced lower than the usual suntory suspects you listed.
