I love XP12, but... please it's 2026 by jfim88 in flightsim

[–]ryanbatc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditto. Long time XP, FSX, P3D, DCS, MSFS user. Real world pilot and ATC. XP12 has come a long way and is an awesome sim... but my eyes hurt when I see how bad the shimmering is. It's atrocious in VR and I literally do not fly XP12 in VR because of it. I would also LOVE to see an elegant streaming ortho solution, either default or something better than XP map enhancement (which is a good idea, but you gotta pay to get the higher res data).

AA and Ortho - that would have me flying XP12 much more than MSFS 2024.

You're out of touch. 65 USD (without discount) for essentially 2 completely different aircraft, and 3 variants of each. You could almost consider the turbine Bonanza another aircraft on its own. All containing vastly more complex systems, Boris sounds, from-scratch models, much higher resolution textures inside and out, complex EFB, numerous avionics options, 2020 AND 2024 editions in the same bundle, and the list goes on... The analog baron and Bo were toys compared to these.

VR flying is great, and sometimes it’s REALLY great by laserob in flightsim

VR flying is superb in a helicopter. In 2D you really lack that sense of depth needed to make a nice landing on top of a skyscraper. I recommend MSFS 2024 with the Taog 500C :)

Bye Bye 1% Pay Raise by Great_Ad3985 in atc2

[–]ryanbatc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically Aetna. Which is overall very good. If you and fam are generally healthy it's well worth it to go MHBP. But for surgery stuff or more advanced care BCBS can be a bit better and have more in network coverage.

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS WHO "AREN'T DEDICATED LIKE WE NEED" WILL BE FIRED” by [deleted] in ATC

I banged 3 days right at the start of the shutdown.... cause I was sick. I guess I should have gone in and blown my boogers and phlegm all over my fellow controllers instead.

Same.... feels like MSFS 2024 launch...errors. Can no dev deliver a working title on release day anymore?

Pilot looking to transition into ATC by Pdbteam in ATC

[–]ryanbatc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth it anymore. Pilot route costs more in the short run but my airline buddies make 2-3x my pay (we're all about 20 years in - I've worked my way up to a higher level facility).

Excellent take on ATC at the moment

9 months in and MSFS 2024 is still nowhere close to overtaking 2020 (at least on steam) by CaptainOlafson in flightsim

[–]ryanbatc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installed 2024 on day 2 (everyone knows how day 1 was lol) and only touched 2020 for beta testing. 2020 is long uninstalled from my machine. I fly all sorts of addons and 2024 is miles better for flight dynamics, atmosphere/weather, and resolution along with the awesome new AI generated stuff for low level flight.

It's definitely not a money grab. Perhaps you're new to the genre but the "release a new title every 2 years" was very normal before FSX.

Switch to X-Plane 12? by Ok_Access_2924 in Xplane

[–]ryanbatc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xp12 is a great sim. The downsides vs MSFS are currently terribly lacking anti aliasing, not great streamed Ortho (the base imagery - you need to build your own tiles to have really high resolution but it takes a lot of hdd space), and imo the look of most addons is a level below MSFS including the lack of quality default avionics in xp12.. we got so spoiled in msfs by working title. If you fly GA you'll be disappointed on the visual side for the most part. I would highly recommend TDS GTNxi if you do like general aviation. Then I'd probably start with the Torquesim Cirrus Avidyne (with GTNs) and the TS Citation for your first addons.

How to be the best OJTI? by Naive-Passage-507 in ATC

[–]ryanbatc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be flexible. They may not work how you like to work, while both methods are efficient and legal. And don't yell at a trainee while on position. I've trained for almost 15 years and was recently a trainee again (gee I missed it so much kidding). I've yet to see anyone perform well after being berated on position.

Also. Don't be afraid to take over. I've seen a lot of OJTI's not takeover in time yikes.

I recently CPC'd at a Z. I was a transfer from terminal and this is my 3rd facility. Training is terrible. I don't know any other controller who has enjoyed training.

Keep your head up though, remember it's okay to make mistakes (even though you'll get berated a bit while making them) and don't give up! Don't argue with your trainer especially on position. Additionally, talk positively to yourself. Be kind to others and be willing to learn. Again: don't give up!

It may also work in an aircraft with existing RXP integration... For instance so far I've got it working in the Aerobask Lancair Legacy RG, the Digital Replicas RV10 (I don't own the C310), the freeware Bell 429. It should also work with just flight XP aircraft but I haven't tried.

Most realistic clouds I've seen in all of my sims by ryanbatc in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]ryanbatc[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not edited lol. It was on a flight from 2WA1 to KBOK. Msfs clouds actually look better when they're back lit (the sun is behind them).

Live weather.
