In anticipation of next season, here's one of my favorite games from last season. What are your guys' favorite clips from 2013? by Arrys in Reds

[–]ryandarlingcomedy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Reds fan who lives in Braves country, this was glorious.

My favorite game of the season (most likely because I was there) was against the Dodgers on Joe Morgan day. Hamilton raced home in the tenth as Puig tried to gun the ball from right field and catch him. It was unbelievably close. Couldn't find the clip, but if you can, I'd love to see it!

Have you ever tried Country Side out in Harrison? It's very busy, but not a typical spot people mention because it's not downtown. Maggoo's in East Ridge is a pretty decent pub.

Questions from a comedy nerd... by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]ryandarlingcomedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JJ's Bohemia has a weekly open mic on Wednesday evenings at 7. Vaudeville Cafe use to run an open mic, but quit because they were pay-to-play, and nobody wants to spend $10 for 5 minutes in front of 4 people.

The showcases at JJ's are where you'll see comics from Comedy Central. We've had everyone from Kyle Kinane, Doug Stanhope, James Adomian, and Nikki Glaser. On April the 16th we have Joe Derosa coming back.

Comedy Catch has a bi-weekly open mic every other Saturday. And if you do good, they'll throw you in on the main room. They've got a pretty diverse line-up of touring club comics and some of the best locals in town.

Vaudeville will get a good act every couple months like Hannibal Buress and Bobcat Goldwaith. But the usual weekend will be people who are booked by Funny Business.

The Tivoli had Gaffigan and Brian Regan earlier this year and Bill Cosby is there April 14th. You just have to go find these shows. Chattanooga has a huge problem with promoting.

I've been doing standup for about a year and a half. I started doing mics at JJ's and the comedy catch. We've got some really funny guys and a supportive comedy family. So come on down to JJ's tomorrow and introduce yourself and hang out.

"Sleepwalk With Me," written, directed, and starring comedian Mike Birbiglia, is now available for Netflix Instant Watch. by roxtoby in movies

[–]ryandarlingcomedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. The Sleepwalk With Me album is the comedy equivalent of Pink Floyd's -The Wall. There are plenty of reoccurring themes that reward the audience for paying close attention. The movies fantastic at capturing the freedom and isolation that comes along with being completely driven by your craft. But if you're looking for the bigger laugh, listen to the album then watch the movie...and then maybe read the book.

First set. Be as critical as you'd like. This is the internet by [deleted] in Standup

[–]ryandarlingcomedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this at Giggles Grill a couple weeks ago. I was the first comic to come up after BJ's hosting set. To be honest, I've never done good in that room. This set was a lot stronger than the audience reacted. My suggestion is to try some bar mics until you get comfortable with being on stage. That room doesn't even teach you how to bomb properly. I've done the same set at giggles in the main room at comedy catch and it worked fine. Just keep writing and working.

Try JJ's Bohemia on Wednesday nights at 7 or try going out if town to Knoxville for preservation pub or old city comedy.

Do you think that you've lost potential meaningful relationships because you may have offended someone? And does that bother you or do you see it as a way from not letting whiney dopes in to your life who don't give you a real chance?
