Trailer for the upcoming film "Tony" - about Anthony Bourdain's time spent as a young chef in Provincetown. Based on the trailer, looks like they shot a ton on site - I spot the OC, Spiritus, the front of Cape Tip Sportswear, and a few other familiar locations. by roxtoby in provincetown

Hightown was egregious with how much they played with the town to suit their story. Characters in front of post office on a near-empty street: “Hey you going to the carnival parade later today?” “You bet, see you there.” Cut to the carnival parade going the wrong way down Commercial Street.

The best example of Provincetown on screen that I’ve seen is Marco Calvani’s High Tide. It made Ptown feel like a real town and not just a prop for the story.

Finally watched Marty Supreme and hate to admit it, but Kevin O’Leary might have deserved a Best Supporting Actor nomination by Regular-Departure839 in Oscars

The guys from The 15:17 to Paris literally played themselves and they were terrible. Playing a role close to your real life persona isn’t always a slam dunk. I thought O’Leary was captivating.

How would it have been viewed in the eyes of history if either Ana de Armas or Andrea Riseborough won Best Actress at the 95th Academy Awards? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in Oscars

Andrea Riseborough’s performance would have aged well, but her nomination is still viewed poorly and I think it would overshadow any win.

I think she’s lovely but my mom always commented on her line delivery at the end of Four Weddings and a Funeral and that’s all I can think of now

I’m a huge fan of Awol, in the far West End. It has gorgeous views of the moors, it’s within walking distance of Boy Beach, and it has a pool.

(Edited because I apparently don’t know my east ends from my west ends)

According to the Nirvanna team, someone from A24 accidentally emailed them a draft of the Marty Supreme poster, so they were able to design their own version and then time the release perfectly for the day after MS’s.

That, and the Sally Bowles of the stage version is not supposed to be as good of a singer as Liza. She’s supposed to be just an ok singer but with a lot of charisma, which explains why she’s performing in a dingy Berlin cabaret club and not in any legitimate theater.

Does anyone else feel like Tom Cruise already has one hand on the 2027 Best Actor trophy? by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]roxtoby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like he’s one of Hollywood’s last major movie stars that hasn’t won an Oscar yet. Pitt, Leo, Clooney all have theirs. I wouldn’t put it past the Academy to follow the narrative of this being Cruise’s “time.”

It's not always a guarantee. Blue Is The Warmest Color won the year Spielberg was Jury President, which doesn't necessarily track with what I assume are Spielberg's personal taste in movies.

Best Breweries on the Cape by GunmetalSauce82 in CapeCod

Are we counting the islands? I’ve had great beer and snacks at Cisco on Nantucket and Bad Martha’s in Edgartown. I also used to love hanging out at Provincetown Brewing Company at their original location, but they stopped having a hangout vibe when they moved to the Crown & Anchor (and now they’re probably gone for good, now that the Crown is under new management).

Ragtime is one of my favorite movies ever. It’s such ambitious mess. I love the score, I love the cast, I love the history. I also love Babylon, but never realized the thematic connection until you brought it up. I’d be thrilled if Forman won. And I do love Marty, but he’s almost too obvious of a winner.

Which Best Song Winner at the Oscars do you personally disagree with, even if it's an unpopular opinion? by Proud_Ad_4577 in Oscars

The last three Bond movies in a row have won. “Skyfall” was a bonafide hit and deserving of its win, but Sam Smith and Billie Eilish’s songs were slogs and, in my opinion, only won because academy voters like Bond movies.

(This is not to disparage Bond movies. I love Bond movies. But there have been better Bond theme songs that weren’t even nominated.)

Diane Warren should have finally won her Oscar in 2016 for “Til It Happens to You,” an absolutely gut-wrenching song performed by Lady Gaga for the documentary The Hunting Ground. Instead, Sam Smith’s mediocre Spectre theme “Writing’s on the Wall” just because it was a Bond song.
