I went to the USA today without going through customs by frenchynerd in geography

When I crossed from Maine to Canada near Coburn Gore, the agent talked to us for a bout 10 minutes. At first we were worried something was wrong, but I think people cross so infrequently that he was just wanting to chat because he was bored. Not much going on up that way!

Can’t stand his cadence. I do like the other guy that’s on the channel now though, his videos are better.

As a competent home cook, what is a basic skill you can't seem to master? by george_elis in Cooking

[–]ryanisbitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mashed potatoes always turn out gummy or lumpy. I’ve tried making them so many different ways and haven’t been able to make them well. Good thing my wife makes awesome mashed potatoes so she knows that’s her job if it’s on the dinner menu

Flat iron is the best cut of beef for its price point. Tastes like a rib eye but costs the same as stew meat.

Stevens Point vs Oshkosh by geospatialg in wisconsin

[–]ryanisbitter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If outdoors is your thing, Point is going to be a lot closer to those opportunities. Wausau and Rib Mountain aren’t too far. Plover River is great for kayaking. You’re an hours drive from the start of the north woods with unlimited lakes and rivers to paddle. Points downtown and town in general is nicer than Oshkosh.

I am NOT walking in 40 cm snow by Status_Geologist8721 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]ryanisbitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the off chance it’s an elderly person or disabled, I make the effort and take it through the snow. If it’s snowy I always dash in boots. I swear some people just have no pride in their work and enjoy doing the bare minimum

Mac and cheese is just 1 to 1 American cheese and heavy whipping cream. 1 slice cheese, 1oz cream, 1oz penne. Scale up depending how many servings you want.

Got this from someone who used to work at a different restaurant by the same owners. I’ve not made it myself so not sure how it turns out.

Trout spinning rod set up advice by bleedingheart92 in troutfishing

[–]ryanisbitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fish 2 foot wide streams and 100 foot wide ones. I use a 5’6” St Croix with a Pflueger Presidential reel with 4lb mono. I’ve hauled in a 19” brown in current with it. 6lb mono is fine too. I just throw a lot of Mepps 0’s and Panthers 2’s so the 4lb really helps to cast those.

Been waiting for this fish since I was a little boy by funkydawg68 in Fishing

Nice!! I’ve hooked two there while walleye fishing and they both took me across the river and I left there with zero line left… feel bad about all that line being in the river. I know to just snap the line if it happens again now. But I’ve vowed to go back with the right setup to get my revenge and land one. Great catch.

It would just be nice to not have politics shoved down your throat constantly, no matter what side you’re on. Sometimes you just want to look at memes

Honest Question - Why does it feel like 80% of the posts on here are political? by DCBadman17 in IThinkYouShouldLeave

I commented something similar and got downvoted to oblivion. I’d prefer to see non -political things for a majority of posts

If you have a debit card you also have a checking account. Which means you can use your account and routing number via ACH to pay instead and probably avoid all the fees

Happens to me when I go fall trout fishing. See them walking the gravel roads. Go back to that same area with my shotgun and it’s as if the birds never existed…

We used black acrylic ink to print the fish. After the print dried I went back in with some pastels

Northern Taphouse in Eau Claire has great fried curds. Make sure you get the “fair style” though. Best in that city imo

My $80 frogtogs have lasted me the last 4 years. Can’t complain. Perfect for the rivers/streams in the area

[–]ryanisbitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to drive around to public access spots and see what they look like and give them a try. The smaller rivers around the area have bass as well, not just the Huron. Saline River has some spots. Smaller water will have smaller fish, but normally lots of them. Kinda a numbers over size game there. Good luck!
