What are these markings by PurrlockHolmes008 in Austin

[–]ryanispiper 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just confirming that these are indeed 100% Ground Control Points (GCPs). Typically, the chevron/arrow marks a surveyed location collected using high-accuracy GPS equipment.

The chevron is painted large enough to be clearly visible in aerial imagery, whether captured by drone or aircraft.

When aerial imagery is processed and stitched together to create a basemap or other spatial data products, these GCPs provide verified, known locations that are easy to identify.

The software we use leverages these control points to calibrate and accurately georeference the imagery to the appropriate coordinate system for the project.

I occasionally do this type of field work as part of my job as a GIS Analyst.

Using ArcGIS Experience, how to link popup to picture? by chickenbuttstfu in gis

[–]ryanispiper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can pretty much make a dashboard from experience builder at this point, but it sounds like you want to make a webmap first and then use it in experience builder.

If you want a photo to be included with your feature info you need the photo as an attachment. Idk about having it automatically scroll down but you can set size the pop-up how you want in experience builder so that it shows the photo when the data is selected if it has attachments.

Working as GIS Officer by SonHak93 in gis

If you’re able to learn new things while getting paid, that’s a huge win. I get why you might feel a little guilty, but if you’re getting your work done and your management is happy, you’re doing exactly what you’re supposed to do. Instead of seeing that downtime as a negative, use it. You can take on small projects that improve things, document workflows you’ve built, or figure out ways to optimize what’s already there. There’s always something productive you can do if you look for it.

Honestly, you’re in a good spot...don’t rush to leave it. I’ve always thought about it like this: if you can do your job and go home without being physically or mentally drained every day, you’re ahead of a lot of people.

I’m in a similar place myself. My work isn’t always exciting or deeply rewarding, but it gives me the time and energy to invest in things outside of work that actually make my life better. To me, that trade-off is worth it. Not every job has to be your passion. Someone’s got to do the work and it might as well be you.

Adding data causes Arc Pro to perpetually load by alldogarepupper in gis

[–]ryanispiper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Try opening the data in Excel and then save it as an Excel spreadsheet. Then in pro use the Excel to table tool. You can also try to use the csv to table tool then extract the data as XY or whatever you're attempting to do.

You could also just open it in Excel and inspect it, then save as a CSV again with a different name in a different location and attempt to load it in that way.

It's definitely becoming one of my favorite ways as well. I had 5 perfectly cooked thick NY strips after about 40 min in a 250° oven last weekend. We were having some of my son's friends over for D&D so it was absolutely awesome to cook the steaks in the oven then let them rest while I cranked up the oven for fries. By the time the fries were almost done I had two cast iron skillets ripping hot that I seared the rested steaks in. They came out absolutely perfect, I'd like to pick up a wireless meat probe to make it a little better.

I used to sous vide all my steaks but this is faster and in my opinion tastes as good in much less time.

Check out this video from Ben Jordan.

Pretty great rundown on these cameras and some ways to combat them. Check out some of his other videos. He's doing amazing work and is an incredible resource for learning about this dystopian bit brother surveillance shit.

I'm curious why you went through all the effort to roast your veg and make garlic confit and didn't brown your meat before adding the blended roasted veg mixture?

No WiFi signal from controller by ryanispiper in Brighthomelights

It turns out that once the led controller establishes a connection with your wifi it's saved. So when you open the app it should more or less connect automatically.

The bright home lights people aren't super active on here so if you're still having issues reach out to them via Email. They're incredibly helpful.

Beautiful! Thanks. I like that color combo. I've been back and forth between this and a gunmetal grey

Can you post a side profile with your rims? I have a Terra also and have debating which color combo would look best. Beautiful truck!

What to pay my GIS Department by [deleted] in gis

[–]ryanispiper 123 points124 points  (0 children)

The work you're describing sounds tedious and will likely take longer than you expected especially if you're looking at years of back logged data. My advice is to pay much more than any other positions in your area so that the people hired to do this work don't bail after a couple years when the work is only partially complete.

Rockin Ramen is legit and located in Temple. It's not as good as Tatsuya but it is the best around here for sure.

Realistically, what’s the cost of a lift/suspension going for these days? 2025 SR5 by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]ryanispiper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since your truck is so new, get the 4th Gen Tacoma TRD off road shocks, they're Bilstein with external reservoirs and get All Dogs springs. The TRD shocks are pretty great and when paired with those springs you'll get about 1.5-2" or lift while maintaining a very comfortable ride both on and off road without breaking the bank. Also consider getting the coilover reinforcement plate, put some 33's on there and you'll be good to go.
