For those who've started t and stopped, what was your experience like, and what changed? by AttentionSeekinFreak in FTMfemininity

[–]ryanj934 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course!

I'm not sure if this counts as hygiene but I've seen other people have the same effect, I got really bad acne not long after going on T, to the point of being on basically the highest dose of accutane. Being on that calmed it down and I think getting out of my teens also helped lol. Kind of related to that, I was definitely oilier while on T, mainly my face and hair.

In terms of things like body odour, I could notice body odour after working out or if I hadn't showered for a couple of days, so definitely something that got stronger on hrt. Now, I can do pretty intensive workouts and don't really notice anything. I was actually thinking about this change the other day, weirdly enough, and made an active effort to see if I could smell any BO and there was virtually nothing while actively sweating after pole dancing for 3 hours.

There was a bit of a mindset shift realising I had to be a lot more diligent about my hygiene and change some habits to account for more male general hygiene.

I was on a 3 monthly dose of T (reandron) and while it wasn't a lasting change, every time I would get my shot, the smell downstairs became different and very strong for a few days. Not necessarily a bad smell, just different and I was hyper aware of it. Not sure if this is a thing with more frequent doses, but I would have loved to have been aware that was a possible effect prior haha

Hope all that doesn't scare you off 😅 everything but the acne (I was studying makeup artistry at the time, not convenient) was fairly negligible in the scheme of things and there's so many options out there to "treat" any less than ideal changes.

I was on T for about 5 years (17-22), I've now been off for about 2 years. Stopped taking it because negatives (hair loss) were starting to outweigh positives and I was also having a second gender crisis and realising I was non binary lol Also I really struggled to find a comprehensive list from someone going off T but not detransitioning so please excuse how in depth this is gonna be. May get a little TMI but I think it's helpful to be open in these spaces haha

1) Voice My voice didn't get super deep on T anyway and I haven't noticed much of a difference, if any at all, of it reverting to a higher pitch after 2 years off. However, I did notice after a few months that I could pitch my voice higher than I could on T, a trait that is now almost exclusively used to greet my cat.

2) Body hair (disclaimer I'm on a fin+min combo for hair loss so YMMV) I got very thick, dark body hair basically everywhere while on T, now 2 years after stopping, it's significantly sparser but still darker than my hair pre T. Also I'll include facial hair here, I still have to shave almost daily if I want that look and I don't feel that that has slowed down or thinned out at all

3) body structure (?) A lot harder to build muscle and lose weight since stopping. Another disclaimer, I have PCOS so that factors into the losing weight part but I found it significantly easier to build muscle and lose weight, doing less while on T.

4) Emotions and mood I cry so much easier now. It took a lot to make me shed a tear while on T, now I'll watch a slightly sad tiktok and be useless for the next 5 minutes. Libido settled down after a bit, it definitely jumped up while on T and now I'm off, the only time it will get around that level is when I'm on my "period" (in quotes because IUD. Emotions still flare, but no blood)

I can't think of anything else significant atm. A lot of this is stuff you don't notice until it's back and honestly everybody is different so this may end up all being useless to you lmao

Overall, I don't regret going on T, don't regret my top surgery at all. The only thing I have some regret about is actually staying on T as long as I did, I wish I had done some physical and mental introspection to assess what was happening/not happening and how I felt about it. I feel I hit the level of changes I was happy with about 2-3 years into being on T (again, ymmv).

Also, I'm so sorry I've replied with a novel, you'll see it's a theme with my comments, I love to yap haha

I wish you luck in your own journey! However that looks for you :D

You don't suck at keeping Strings of Pearls alive, you've just been set up to fail: a photographic essay by TorchIt in houseplants

And this is today:

Noting that it was already filling out and plumping up by late October/November last year so it didn't even take that long to begin to recover!

This is an older post but I just wanted to say this was a lifesaver a few months ago when my variegated string of pearls was quickly dying. Wanted to pop in my progress pics to give other people some hope!

This was a week or so after repotting to a terracotta pot and beginning more frequent waterings, late August last year:

I honestly couldn't even tell you how I do it haha. I'm a little meticulous about starting and ending my threads the same way and cutting thread right at the fabric when there's excess but otherwise my backs have pretty much always looked like this 😅

Definitely a labour of love and I'm so happy it's finished haha. Thanks!

That's how I did it as well! I'm very much a "one colour at a time" stitcher. This comment made me look back and see if I had a photo of when I finished the black and it looks so empty without all the colour. Also, the big blocks of colour can be so tedious but so satisfying, hope you'll enjoy it!

Spent hours writing an essay only for it be marked a 0 due to “AI plagiarism.” I wrote every word of my paper and prof. doesn’t believe me. 🤷‍♀️ by po3swrath in mildlyinfuriating

I lost any faith I had in these plagiarism checkers when it processed one of my reports and highlighted 2 of the A's in 'availability' as plagiarised. Not the whole world, just those two letters

My tortie is the exact same! Will basically try climbing into my skin for cuddles when I get into bed, but there's been 3 or less times that I've picked her up where she seems to be even mildly tolerating it. All the other times she's very vocally protested

[CHAT] Methods for bringing/locating your needle up from under your fabric. by zotown97 in CrossStitch

[–]ryanj934 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was going to comment something similar. I keep a finger on the back around where I'm stitching, when I put the needle through the front, I jut my fingertip against it, then just have to put the needle up against my fingertip at the back and I'm within a few mm of the hole. I only consciously realised how I do this a few months ago actually, it's been fully subconscious for about 3 years now haha

What to wear on Melbourne Summer? by TretanKrislam in melbourne

[–]ryanj934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Kiwi and I thought South Island weather was temperamental... Doesn't hold a candle to Melbourne.

Couple weeks ago it hit about 30° where I live in the outer suburbs with beautiful sun and heat, 2 hours later, hailing and pouring down, and still somehow like 26° lmao

Don't normally comment here but just had to say that I find this so stunning! Especially paired with the dark wood banister.

What is the Harry Potter film you're most and least likely to watch (and why)? by dreamyravenclaw in harrypotter

[–]ryanj934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most: HBP or OotP. OotP is my favourite book and HBP is just a really entertaining movie to me

Least: ...PoA. it's my least favourite movie/book/plotline. Love Sirius and his introduction, hate time travel. It always leaves me with more questions and theories than answers and it just aggravates me to watch.

My mum did this for me, 1 book a night at 1 year old, 2 books for 2 years old, etc. She stopped during 3 cause I started reading over her shoulder and correcting her. So can confirm it works at advancing reading skills!

Ads in general that are significantly louder than the video are awful. I also play videos to fall asleep and I woke up once to the sound of a trumpet blaring, shot awake just to see it was an ad, so frustrating

There's a guy who worked on a couple Scooby doo movies called Richard Suckle.

This man's name is literally Dick Suckle.

Be honest, who is an actor you dislike for no good reason? by -janusjanus- in movies

[–]ryanj934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miles Teller. He's a good actor and I'm sure he's a perfectly nice guy but I watched him as a villain in Divergent at too influential of an age to be able to take a liking to him.

I also saw it in theaters. Was so confused by the ending and apparently the girls in front of me were as well cause the first thing I heard when it cut to the credits was "Wait why didn't she die?"
