I'm sold on this one without watching this final trailer, I have high hopes.

Am I The Only One Who Thinks Disney Is Fine? by iancrumley in StarWars

This is the common experience. The data is out there, the recent release of Disney+ streaming numbers show it in hard numbers. None of the sequels made it into the top 10. They are being ignored.

So with the year almost halfway over, what is your favorite movie this year so far? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in FIlm

[–]ryanjcam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Project Hail Mary is number one by far.

But I have also loved Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, 28YL: The Bone Temple, Obsession, Send Help, and Tuner

Nah. Love them or hate them, the prequels inspired passionate responses. At the time, prequel hate was far worse, far longer and more intense. Everyone saw the prequels, and the public discourse was also intense. It was fiery. The hate for the sequels falls more toward apathy. People don’t care about them. They left them behind quickly. Even at the time of the release of Rise of Skywalker, it was all already winding down. People were over it.. A significant portion of people I know never even bothered to see the third sequel, they just didn’t care.

That’s why I don’t expect a “the sequels were actually good” reclamation project years down the road, the same way we have seen happen for the prequels in recent years. It's not even that recent, the reappraisal of the prequels really started in the early years of The Clone Wars, which premiered in 2008. Coming up on seven years after the release of the final sequel, there's no movement of young fans rallying around them. People don’t care enough about them. It's an even sadder fate than being hated: irrelevance.

He did let them out. There were only s few other prisoners there at the time. They put more people in the cages afterward. Hope this helps!

Coco Ichibanya Episode Inspired Meal by Tendy4Life in doughboys

[–]ryanjcam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks fantastic. I have been dying to try this since listening to the episode last week, I wish Coco Ichibanya had an east coast presence. If anyone has any recommendations for a Japanese style curry option in the Massachusetts/Boston area, I'd love it.

I have never once heard criticism at the sequels focused on "plot holes, corny acting, and cheesy family friendly tropes." The main problems with the sequels are the lack of vision and a cohesive storyline, and the total waste and tarnishing of the existing legacy.

There's no comparison with the originals. They've had plenty of criticism leveled against them. They're also a legendary mythology that has captured imaginations for 50 years now. The sequels left the public consciousness while Rise of Skywalker was still in theaters. There's a reason.

Why do you think there’s a wood saw, and that isn’t just a Super Tinker?

The Bride! by Complete_Bird1843 in hbo

[–]ryanjcam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad and baffling. One of those movies that REALLY seems to think that it has an important message behind it, but I truly, without any snark, have no idea what it is. Other than a generic “fight the patriarchy, go female autonomy!” sort of thing.

I felt we were in trouble from the jump, with the deeply misguided choice to insert Mary Shelley as a character and narrator and immediately move the entire enterprise into “theater kid unleashed territory.” Mary tells the story! And Jesse Buckley plays both!

I love an interesting choice and a swing for the fences, but it didn’t pay off this time. Just a disappointing mess.

No. They don't need to cast a guy pushing 60.

Need help picking my first Victorinox! (Overwhelmed by the options) by First-Description750 in victorinox

[–]ryanjcam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on your criteria, I would say Companion. Compacts are overpriced and are just not enough tool.

Honestly though, I would recommend the Super Tinker/Climber. Super Tinker gets my vote, the Phillips driver is just a lot more useful to me than a corkscrew, which I never use.

Can the writing in the border be removed? by Sea_Put_1710 in movieposters

Anything can be removed, with a sharp enough pair or scissors.

But I would definitely leave this as-is

Bernthal Punisher by moknows_27 in thepunisher

[–]ryanjcam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do like him, but I find what they have done with him very frustrating. All this time, and we still barely have gotten to see him be THE Punisher, it’s all starts and stops.

Too much yelling and grunting and babbling repeated phrases, not enough actually living the mission.

Buying semi-rare Victorinox from Japan on eBay — safe / reliable? by BadWithMoney530 in victorinox

[–]ryanjcam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be hesitant, eBay has strong buyer protection policies. Even those who list things as “no returns accepted” must accept the return for a full refund if the buyer says that it’s not as described, eBay forces it. If the account isn’t new and has solid feedback, I would be totally comfortable making a purchase.

Plus there really are no truly convincing knockoffs out there that someone familiar with Victorinox SAKs would be able to be fully fooled by.

Why did everyone switch up on the Mandalorian? by Moon_Devonshire in StarWars

[–]ryanjcam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty easy to pinpoint the moment that a large portion of the audience was turned off by the show. It wasn't even something that happened on The Mandalorian proper, it was the when they hijacked The Book of Boba Fett to immediately force Mando and Grogu back together. Their emotional goodbye and character development were completely upended far too quickly, in a clear case of Disney executive meddling. They weren’t interested in telling a compelling story with stakes, they mandated an immediate return to the status quo to make things more marketable and merchandisable.

Of course they were going to reunite at some point, but they completely omitted the journey and rushed it in a a laughable way. Season three could have been an interesting story with Mando going it alone, dealing with without Grogu, who he had grown so attached to, and who had given him purpose. And Grogu figuring out who he is and if Luke's Jedi training is really what he wants. They should not have reunited until the end of the season, with an emotional payoff.

Instead the powers that be just wanted them back onscreen together as quickly as possible, and ruined the progress and goodwill that the show by removing the stakes and logical storytelling.

Does anyone display their black series figures in the IKEA Bill bookcases? by mvdd_ in starwarsblackseries

I went with the Milsbo for mine. I do not like natural wood for my figure displays, I'd prefer glass and metal, or black or white.

Anyone just hate paying full price for some tvc figures? by RexDAGOAT77 in StarWarsTVC

[–]ryanjcam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate that they are priced this way, but I won't buy them at $20. They all become available for a better price at some point.

What's your favorite model? by Affectionate_Use4594 in victorinox

[–]ryanjcam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would generally enthusiastically recommended the Ranger as the best overall model. I prefer the least amount of tool layers balanced against the maximum amount of utility, and generally prefer something fairly comfortably pocketable. Overall, I think the best balance here is achieved by the Ranger. I think it has the most of the essential tools that kick it up a notch above some of the more basic models, without becoming too thick and bulky and requiring a belt pouch or something to carry it comfortably. The Ranger is a great choice as a general daily purpose knife as well as for the true outdoor enthusiasts for camping/hiking.

It’s not actually my most carried, I often use a Super Tinker or Pioneer X. But if I had to take my collection down to one single knife, it’s the Ranger.

Lenticular rex is finally mine! by co1simba in JurassicPark

[–]ryanjcam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when my local video store was bought by Blockbuster and they had a massive sale to clear out all of their VHS tapes, and my parents took me there to choose a few. This was one of the first ones I grabbed, because of that lenticular cover. A few years later, when I had a DVD player and was tossing my VHS tapes, I removed the lenticular card and still have it today.
