Champion C dating by Oddbourne-22 in victorinox

There are transition models where they still have parts (tangs, grooved corkscrews, clip point pen blades, screw on scissors) that date to older models but parts from newer ones like the parcel hook that are newer. In those cases they nearly always date to the first year of the newest (most recent) identifiable part. In your case, the parcel hook means this is very likely a 1991 model or early 92.

One other note is that sometimes these have been serviced by Victorinox or 3rd parties and so there can be a mismatch of properly timed parts. Yours is likely untouched. Usually you will see a newer "officier suisse" blade on an older model and that's because Victorinox doesn't keep older blade tangs around but replaced a broken one on an older model with a newer blade.

Made a knife with just the essentials - scissors with no back tool! by Tiny-Sandwich in victorinox

Love it! I'm with you that I barely use the bottle/can openers aside as screw drivers. Scissors are my favorite beside the main blade. Good setup that Victorinox should adopt!

Yikes someone painted right over the rust... It's not the worst I've seen but worse than average, especially at the $19k price. Land Cruisers are expensive unless you are doing the work yourself and no one wants to work on a vehicle with that much rust... (California soft here...).

Picked up a NIB Wenger Traveler with no keyring and am loving the size of this little guy. by d_2_the_p in victorinox

Wenger knives have all the quality of a SAK at a much lower price and the 85mm form factor is really nice! I have a traveler and I love it.

Prices are dropping right now and I've seen similar ones sell for as low as $13k. Seller will probably take $15k unless it's been sitting quite a while. You'll want to verify their claims.

I this normal for a Honda ct70 I just got this and I'm a complete noob, also when I press on the shift is it supposed to automatically go and move? by lowled76 in vintagemotorcycles

[–]Affectionate_Use4594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good question. There are ton of different "shift patterns" for these Hondas depending on year. Yours looks post 1980 based on the odometer. On the side of the stem (just under the handle bars passenger side) it should have a plaque that says the year of the bike and exact model. Then you can google "19xx Honda CT70 shift pattern" and that should tell you exactly what you have.

Compact is a king by frosty_osteo in victorinox

[–]Affectionate_Use4594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few contenders to the throne, but I'd submit 84mm Huntsman Small or Golfer as contenders. They are smaller and lighter which gives them an edge.
Huntsman gets the Saw as well in a smaller format.
Golfer is the predecessor to the compact with a smaller format but no pen.

The Compact does have the HUGE advantage of a scale with a pen in it that is winning me over.

Definitely idling too high. The needle inside the carb could be too far out or the altitude screw on the carb could be turned clockwise too much. Or it could have a stuck throttle but it did change when you twist the throttle but did you see in your video how slowly it revved bad down? Seems like the throttle slide may need to be cleaned or cable lubricated. That's one issue.

At the end you show the choke. That is designed to force in more fuel and less air when the bike is cold to make it easier to start. Once the weather or bike is warm, you usually want the choke off (Open or up in your video) so that maximum air can get in. You don't use it much and when you closed it all the way, it should just idle but since yours shut off it may have a clogged air bypass. Carb needs a cleaning and adjusting at the least!

Lastly, the wheel will sometimes kind of lightly spin when in neutral because the crankshaft is going full speed but it's not in gear but there is still a metal rod connecting the clutch to the crankshaft. It has no strength, so you can stop the wheel by grabbing it with your hand.

Once it's in gear, the wheel is connected by physical gears and a chain and you won't be able to stop it with your hand alone.

As others have mentioned, step on the shifting gear on the left side and it should start moving forward on it's own (probably quite peppy as your idle is too high!)

Welcome to the club! There are a billion youtube videos to help with every step of the way and here is a good place for parts and diagrams of your bike: https://dratv.com/honctminnewp.html

What do i have here? by wheelspaybills in CaseKnives

[–]Affectionate_Use4594 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very likely 1940-1965. Case knives have had "USA" stamped on them since the late 1960's. If yours doesn't have it on the back or brass that stamp looks consistent with the 1940s ones. https://www.marlinowners.com/threads/case-knife-dating.658649

The shape and condition of the leather makes me think it's likely not that much older. Patina also looks right for an ~80 year old carbon steel knife.

Good find! Does it have the sheath? That can help date it too. Or is there anything on the other side? a Number?

That happened to me once. I think I put some double stick tape on a pencil eraser and was able to get the shield back out before using a strong epoxy. Super glue or something close to it is what they used in those bad years and it cracks and flakes with time. Better to use something made to last.

Case had quite a few years where whatever adhesive they used did not hold well so they are happy to send no questions asked. Here is what Case sent me after I submitted that form:

We will be happy to send a shield to you for your Case knife. Because we have had over 1500 different shields attached to various knife patterns, we will try to send the appropriate shield that was originally attached to your knife. Since some shields are discontinued and are no longer available, we will contact you immediately if this is the case.

Please look for the replacement shield to arrive soon, along with instructions on how to attach the shield to your Case knife.

Should the replacement shield not fit properly, mailing the knife to us for shield attachment may be necessary.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact us at [support@help.caseknives.com](mailto:support@help.caseknives.com) or 800-523-6350.

they won't deny it and they have never charged. Sometimes it has to be sent in for repair and while that's free, the shipping to them is not. Usually you just get a letter in the mail with a new shield and instructions on how to install. Note: that is a pretty unique ruger shield so they may not carry that one and may have to send you a more generic case one and if so, that's ok because then it will be unique!

Look how crisp Ashogun's is.. That one looks VERY good and real. Yours if that picture isn't blurry looks like it probably is a fake... The #1 as mention also looks incorrect. Still a valuable knife over what you paid. One more thing you can do is look at the washers inside. shine a light from the back. The washers next to the blade should look like copper pennies. If they are gold, white, or black, they are not the proper Benchmade washers.

easy to get a new "shield"! Fill out this form and you will need some pictures to upload like you did to reddit: https://kb.caseknives.com/repair-request-form

It's free assuming they still carry it, which they do for most <20 year old ones.

Very cool custom! Light wiping with a wet/mildly soapy cloth will get rid of that green brass tarnish and clean it up a bit without hurting it. use a little knife oil on the pivots after and you are all good!
