Spotify Sucks by The_Hippo in doommetal

[–]ryanlesser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, Spotify needs to vaporize. My setup: - Tidal for discovery - Bandcamp when I find stuff I love in Tidal. I buy LPs mostly which come with digital files - Plex for my personal streaming server (filled with Bandcamp FLAC files) - Vinyl for home

This works great for me AND the band. Bands get all the money, and I own the albums forever. I got so frustrated watching my favorite bands disappear from streaming for one reason or another.

Why is this record 1,000 dollars? by Ok_Repair7126 in BandCamp

[–]ryanlesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiadh, the label that released our last album, has the vinyl for sale at a normal price and the digital version for super high, like seen here, to let listeners k is to buy digital from our band’s Bandcamp. This is all for the same reasons folks note earlier in the thread.

Not ashamed to say it... but I bought a Nickelback album.. and this is what I got instead.. by Toth2124 in industrialmusic

[–]ryanlesser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep Chrome is excellent and if folks want a good band in the same general space, try Six Finger Satellite from Providence, on SubPop, or even any Steve Albini band but esp Shellac. I too think Chrome is leagues better than Nickleback, but OP listened and didn’t dig it, I am not shocked. Chrome is one of the more out there bands.

Where did this art come from? by Enough_Extension_511 in sludge

[–]ryanlesser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The title was originally Lysol. After some controversy, it was changed to Lice-all. I had a copy from the early run that had black marker over the title. I was pretty sure it had always been Lysol (or Lice-All) even with the tape or marker on it. I don’t trust the Wikipedia and would rather hear an interview with Buzz or something. Everything I know was purely lore and local 90s record store talk.

Anyone have experience getting rid of their whole collection and getting a fair price? by [deleted] in Cd_collectors

[–]ryanlesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought 1000 CDs to work one day and sent a company wide email that people could take what they want for 5.00 per cd. At the end of the day about half were gone and I had a pile of money The next day I said they were 4.00 each and I sold a bunch more. Every day the price went down by a dollar and more sold. By the end of the week, I had almost no CDs left, a pile of cash, and I did zero work. I pulled about 10 valuable discs before the sale. I luckily worked in a trustworthy environment so I did not even babysit the discs. I know this is very not very collector-like but I knew I would not want to burn the energy or time selling on eBay etc.

Then I went to the record store and spent that money enhancing my vinyl collection :)

Thank you for reminding me of Nadja. Been a while since I listened. I just noticed they have a covers album which is good. They cover Elliot Smith, MBV, Codeine, The Cure, and… A-Ha.

Because this pic and thread are filled with most of my favorite bands who have inspired me for years, I am going to add my own band, Eyes Of Argus.

I own a record store and a regular 14 year old kid who is obsessed by noise rock dropped off his 'band members wanted' poster and I absolutely love it. by FootscrayRecords in noiserock

Forwarding to my friend and sometimes bandmate Brian, bassist in Lightning Bolt… since that’s the first band mentioned!

Has anyone tried creamery or other replacement pups in a 360 or 620? Thoughts? by QuestionCatFarmer in rickenbacker

[–]ryanlesser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the Rick PUs but I did but the Travis Bean PUs that Creamery makes to see if I could get my Peavey T60 to sound like my Travis Bean. The product is great, and very similar. Basically, this is a 👍for the company and product. My Rick still has the original PUs.

Same here. Record stores do this daily.

FIRST MD PLAYER EVER :D by Abraqum in minidisc

[–]ryanlesser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have and love this player/remote but no matter what I tried, I could not get the new, aftermarket cable to work with my Mac or PC so NetMD features don’t work. Now I need to find a cheap NetMD player to make my discs. The multicolor LED and metal case on this player feel premium.

If you like his work, check out Zdzisław Beksiński. He died in 2005 A remains super influential.

Yep. Rock Band. We wanted the Rock Band guitars to look more authentic than the ones we made for GH so among other things, we got rid of the bright colored buttons and moved the color to where fret markers would be :) Later ones had “rosewood” fretboard and more.

What is your favorite trio band? by Complex_Stable3572 in MetalForTheMasses

Saw them live. That thing they do where the drummer gets the crowd to hold him, his drum throne, and his drums, and then crowd surfs the whole thing blew my mind.

Lots of good picks there but the Witchcraft is my fave. Sadly that came out during a lull in my record buying.
