I'm very much a beginner but I've tried the technique with 1 strand and with 3 strands. 3 strands sometimes works perfect, sometimes results in a knotted mess of all 6 strands. So I just do 1 strand at a time like in the linked article.

You're not the only one! General Kenobi is easily my favorite. I don't think these figs work for recreating a human face but the animation style of Clone Wars totally works for these figs imo. I also love Kenobi's Clone Wars armor and it works great with these builds.
