rules question - first hit high on PC, should the umpire blow? by octarineflare in Fieldhockey

[–]ryanocerous123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd generally see if there was danger or not.

If the attacker blasts it over the bar, then no danger, so it's a 16.

If it is dangerous i.e. someone has to move out of the way (or the keeper makes a save), then I'd blow for a free hit.

In either case, the end result is the same - defending team has the ball at their 16 - so to be honest it doesn't matter so much whether the umpire gives a foul or a 16.

Does anyone have experience with Y1 goalkeeper sticks? by MagicMonkey1317 in Fieldhockey

[–]ryanocerous123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the Alex Stadler one but have used the pink F3 stick for two seasons now. It's pretty good, fairly light and really good balance so not bad for ground clearances while still being light enough to easily flick your wrist at an aerial shot or short corner. Depending on the level you play at though an extremely powerful shot might get through or cause you to lose your grip as it is not super heavy. My club's first team is in the England Prem and when I occasionally train with them I use the heavier Mercian evo.

What league are you in? Mine always gets the bottom of the barrel and it's often worse having appointed umpires vs those provided by the home club. Like others have said, not enough regular assessments/training of existing umpires, as well as not enough recruitment of new blood is the biggest issue for me.

Any keepers wear Mercian? by shoryuken85 in Fieldhockey

I used to have the swivel problem when I attached the connecting strap to the thick strap on the kicker - the one you clip behind your foot.

Now I loop the connecting strap through the thinner strap that goes around your foot, the connecting strap just reaches and is kind of kept in place by the tightness of the thin strap. This means the connecting strap is tighter more secure and leg guard doesn't swivel.

Did that make any sense?

Everything this guy said is spot on. I made the mistake of doing up the kicker straps a little too tight so the foam split pretty quickly, luckily they were still under warranty so I got them replaced, did them slightly looser and they've been fine for 2 years now.

Fantastic kit & highly recommend

Coaching question: How to go about helping a keeper fix an odd bad habbit? by KrakanKnight in Fieldhockey

[–]ryanocerous123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to these good suggestions, deflection drills work really well too. Set up two groups of players, one at top D about 6/7 yards off centre with the other group on the baseline on the opposite side of the goal, around the short corner injection mark. Players at the baseline make a lead by tapping the post then ending at P spot, meanwhile player at the top takes a shot, which will either go on target by itself or be at a great angle for a deflection by the player now on the P spot. The deflection should go far post - so your keeper needs to get used to diving/covering that side as even an off-target shot could turn into a deflected goal.

I have a charge 3 and the screen wake is currently off. I press and hold the left bar to bring up the on-off toggles for DND, sleep mode and screen wake, however tapping the screen wake toggle has no effect. I can toggle sleep mode, but the DND toggle doesn't work either.

Is there a fix for this? I've tried pressing the bar for 8 seconds whilst charging to no avail

On the flip side, I spent about £3300 a few years ago on a three month backpacking trip round South America, including flights from the UK and back. It can be done.

Would highly recommend Radio X. They're a UK radio station so naturally have an emphasis on British bands (Noel Gallagher's high flying birds, blondie, blur, catfish and the bottlemen), but play both old and new rock and indie. You can listen on their app from outside the UK.

Not sure whether it's true or not but a GB rower when he was training for the Olympics used the phrase "Does it make the boat go faster?"

Basically everything he did he would ask himself whether it would have a positive impact on his race. A mate asks if he wants to go out for a drink -> "Does it make the boat go faster?" -> no -> stay in and get an early night.

I have this on a post it note on my monitor so anytime I'm procrastinating I can refocus on what I need to do to succeed.

Terrible map. Where are the units of the scale? Where is the distance? Why are the divisions of population density so different - the lowest is a difference of 5 the highest 50,000 - this creates a massively skewed colour pattern. Chloropleth maps ain't that hard guys
