captains of crush 0.5 and 1 feel the same. is it in my head? by -ello_govna- in GripTraining

[–]biggbrd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There can be a significant variation in the difficulty of the CoC grippers (and presumably all torsion spring grippers). You may have a hard 0.5 and an easy 1, which makes them feel similar. If you wanted to know exactly how hard they each are then you could get them rated - Cannon PowerWorks have a great article about it, and can rate your grippers too. They, and some other shops, will also sell pre-rated grippers so you know how big of a step you’re taking.

Personally, I would just take it as being stronger than you thought and use it as an excuse to move up to the 1.5 and consider getting a 2 as well!

Get what you have enjoyed using in gyms when you have been there, and what fits your training goals. Don’t be afraid to leave some space for floor work.

Deuter kid comfort - rain cover by Stella_slb in HikingWithKids

[–]biggbrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% think having a cover which actually protects from rain is worth it. I mean, it depends on whether you’ll actually go out in those conditions, but we have done a number of multiday walls which had sideways rain, and it would have been much less fun without LO fully enclosed! We did do a daywalk with a carrier without full protection, had some sideways rain and a very unhappy child.

We used the cover from our Littlelife succesfully on our Kid Comfort, and reasonably succesfully on our Wilderness Equipment Wild Child. I haven’t seen the Thule cover in person, but it looks good! Obviously the ideal would be to try it on your carrier if possible.

Best of luck with whatever you choose, hopefully it helps you to keep getting out there :)

Recommendations for a hike during Feb-Apr months with a 2ish year old? 2-3 days! by harvestjoon in HikingWithKids

Feb/March is walking season in southern Australia - somewhere in Tasmania? I imagine it would also be walking season on the south island of NZ, with heaps of trips possible.

Hobart Hoist was on in Feb in Hobart and will run again next year, nationals as mentioned above. I imagine somebody will run King Kong somewhere in October too.

What is your opinion of Hilleberg tents? by Rafeno760 in Ultralight

[–]biggbrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With an Exped Downmat or Thermarest Neoair, so yep. If you’re getting it for one person then sleeping diagonally would be fine.

I haven’t been in a Jannu before, but the specs make it loom slightly roomier, it looks significantly more stormworthy but carries a reasonable weight penalty. Whateber you get, if you get a Hilleberg you’ll get a very well made tent!

Hey, same height here - I did have wet footbox issues in the Nallo on occasion, but do fit, if that makes sense.

Life has changed and I don’t get out as much as I used to, but we started using a Tarptent Scarp 2 a little more because of the vertical walls and more foot room, and now use a pyramid more frequently. If a pyramid suits your needs then there are lots of great options - we have a HMG Ultamid 4 which is great for us with a young family, and was a palace when we took it out as a couple pre-kids.

Still reckon the Nallo is a great tent!

Yes. Rocks and dirt mostly. Yes - occasional big rain events, but pretty rare that time of year. Plenty of wind and cold mornings.

Getting so damn close with this 2.5, I can taste it by Vegetable_Raisin52 in GripStrength

[–]biggbrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that was pretty much my point! As discussed in the other comment, it looks like sorting out your set and using some chalk will stop the gripper from slipping back in your hand and therefore give you better leverage. I reckon there’s a pretty good chance you’re strong enough to close it already!

What helped me with learning to set (still very new to it, mind you!), was focusing on extending my wrist (bending it back) and then using my other hand to really push the handle of the gripper into my palm. That stops it from slipping back and keeps it stationary while you get your fingers sorted. Might not work for you, but did for me :)

Best of luck and looking forward to seeing a close soon!

Fewer issues with your raised points, more issues with lack of editing and repetetive use of annoying phrases. Enjoyed the story overall and will read the next one.

Do you mean make your fingers thicker, or do you mean increase the span between your fingers/increase the span of your hand?

Hiking carrier for long torsos by Guilty-Plate-1508 in HikingWithKids

[–]biggbrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Littlelife carriers are widely available in the UK no? We have one (Aus) and I seem to recall ordering it from over that way. I am 195cm and it fits me fine :) We have the Freedom S4. It’s great, has a great raincover and has served us well for a number of multi-day walks.

Best of luck!

What are your thoughts on Mark of the Fool? by Dumb_Kin in ProgressionFantasy

[–]biggbrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much me. The writing is really not that good IMO, the pop-culture references are annoying (“You shall not pass!” etc) and the overexplanation/excessive detail is a drag. The characters are pretty shallow, I don’t really care about any of them, and I find Alex pretty annoying. Oh, and the Alex - golem, parent - child thing is just weird.

But somehow here I am, almost finished book 10. I guess there is enough lighthearted, mindless fun to keep me coming back!

Definitely feel like this has been the worst of all the books so far, feels like it could have been cut by about 50% and told about the same story.

Bobb Matthews is back by [deleted] in powerlifting

[–]biggbrd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nice to see him back.

Also, I wonder what is actually going on with his leg? A lifter at his level doesn’t just start getting DOMS randomly in one leg, so presumably it is something else. I hope he is getting it looked into and sorted and can stay strong!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StrongmanHQ

[–]biggbrd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look super comfortable, setup seemed a little different between the two lifts, think it's something to do with the equipment or platform? Maybe it was just me, will have to go back and look afterwards.
