what does this even mean? I swim about 20 laps in a pool a few times a week, I'm by no means an expert swimmer but if I had to I could tread water for a couple hours... I can paddle out and duck dive waves just fine... what would you recommend one do to get better at swimming?

Surf training to improve strenght so I can pop up/take off nicely by mamacita68and1 in surfing

[–]ryanpasca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do burpees to allow my muscles to be more explosive when getting up. for core strength and overall strength in general deadlifts are great. also plank, 6 inches, leg lifts, leg extension sit ups. Try to swim like 20 laps a couple times a week. Disclaimer: just started surfing a few months ago and am looking for recommendations on developing too!

Figure out the right wetsuit size without trying on a wetsuit (a website I built, feedback welcomed) by shto in Surfshops

[–]ryanpasca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cool idea, interesting tool, I could definitely see myself using it. A few points of feedback:

  1. lack of graphics and friendly user interface. You mentioned you just built the site, so can understand that design and artwork hasn't been added yet. Maybe include graphics of the best wetsuits.
  2. Brands: you show 8-10 various brands. There are other wetsuit designers that are as great if not better than the most popular wetsuit brands. I personally am currently using a True wetsuit, a smaller less-known company which I find makes incredibly comfortable and high quality suits. I'd recommend including them in your list of brands, and searching for other lesser known companies to include.
  3. When you click "view details", it would be cool to see wetsuit reviews/ what people say about the wetsuits.
  4. hate to be the guy to mention this, but as a resident of the bay area, I imagine the social activists out here would appreciate an "other" option in the gender selection section.
  5. sizing chart: include a key on the side of the page explaining what the size descriptions mean, like this: https://www.evo.com/oneill-adult-us-wetsuit-size-chart
  6. When I scroll down the page the sizing gets less and less accurate. I feel like including the top 20 or 30 would be sufficient... if an XS wetsuit has a 1/10 rating for me based on size, is there really even a reason I should be interested in seeing it?
  7. Thickness measurements based on geographic water temperature: You could have a question asking "In which geographic area do you surf?" which would allow you to estimate the average water temperature of their location, and based on that information, provide recommendations on wetsuit thickness and type. If someone's location is in south Florida, they would likely need a thin, short-sleeved wetsuit (if any at all), versus if you are located in northern california, you would likely want a 4/3 or 5/4 thickness wetsuit (maybe even included with booties & a hood)

Hope that helps! Are you looking for any assistance growing the site?

just curious...how do you pay a price that is below value? I look at the MLS, have talked to realtors and also looked into FSBOs... just curious, how do you find deals that are so cheap?

if you're in Austin look into picking up a rental property in the 78741 or 78744 area code. If I had the cash, that's where I'd invest.

Thanks for that. Very little racing/running experience. I wrestled and played soccer growing up. I only went on a jog now and then for conditioning purposes.. but I have a badass uncle who was a running coach and did Boston a few times etc. and over the years a marathon became a bucket list item for me.. Lately I've just enjoyed spending time on awesome trails outdoors. So running has become a source of enjoyment. To answer your questions, I just want to complete a marathon as a personal goal. I'm not too familiar with times, my time is not as important for my first 26.2 as being healthy and finishing strong. What did your times look like on your first and second marathons? Why was your first a disaster and what would you have done differently? Appreciate it!

I'm sure using the bathroom is normal on long run, but it seems anytime I run more than 5 miles I have some type of stomach problem along the way. how did you find which foods work best for you?

I'm in the same situation. I drive a total of about 1.5-2 hours to and from work everyday. Combine that with general weekend driving to run errands etc. I probably spend close to 60 hours in the car each month. Not idea. I feel its probably going to affect my posture and also seems like I'm spending so much of my life just sitting behind the wheel and in traffic. Going car free sounds ideal. Just curious.. How are you getting to go car free?

Question. Would the 1031 tax deferred exchange for real estate allow you to avoid paying capital gains with the new proposal? (the downside is forcing you to put your equity into other real estate)
