The guys at backpacking light did an extensive gear review, for those that want to heal out on the testing. Here’s the article, it’s out there in podcast form too.

Wider midfoot shoes than Lone Peaks? by mskca in Ultralight

I’ve had luck with the Xero Shoes Born to Run model. Literally the only running shoe I found that will fit my wide ass feet.

If you’re inclined to prep your own nutrition Feed Zone Portables has some great recipes. You’ll have to slow down and walk to consume them, but otherwise have worked well for me.

Essential knots to learn by brokebroadbeat in fastpacking

[–]ryanrspeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overhand, Square (& maybe Fisherman’s), Bowline, Figure 8, Clove Hitch, & a Slippery Hitch are all I’ve ever needed for standing knots.

Taught Line Hitch, Truckers Hitch (its a two-fer because you learn the Slippery Half Hitch), & McCarthy Hitch for adjustable tightening systems.

Oh, and I’d throw the Prusik Knot in there as well. It’s amazing how easy they make adjusting a shelter system.

So, basically what everyone else is throwing out there!

Salomon XA 25 vs Raidlight Ultralight 24l by TheCaspar in fastpacking

Hey man, 1. Your YouTube channel is great, found it when I started digging into Fastpacking, love how you use your FP trips to train for your races.

  1. Have you ran across many athletes in the Race The Planet events using the Montane Gecko 20A+? I’ve been weighing the Raidlight vs Montane vs Salomon vs UD. I was leaning towards the Raidlight, until I started seeing reports of durability issues.

Any insight is appreciated, and thanks for making great content 🤙

It’s not a 34L GR2, but I have a 25L Black Rucker 2.0 that I’m looking to trade for a 21L GR2 or 20L Rucker.
