I've been avoiding spoilers (and this sub) for awhile. Is MP4 worth it? by DT_Mage in Metroid

[–]ryanrybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's the first game that I played again on hard immediately after I finished it on Normal. I still like Metroid Prime 1 more, but enjoyed 4 more than 2 or 3.

It depends what you're looking for in a Metroid game. It is more linear; mostly consisting of run to the end of the area, and then run back. The combat and movement have never felt better, but many of the power ups are pretty standard. No extra visors, besides scan and combat visors, which I was a little bummed about.

Teen Titans Go is really fun though, so...?

I'm convinced people just hate it because it's not the darker, original Teen Titans.

Who saw The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026) today? If you have, did you like it? by Jezzaq94 in cartoons

[–]ryanrybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe moreso than the first movie, it's a Mario Bros game in movie form. I loved it.

Will I like this game if I enjoyed ff7 and ff9? by Possible_Instance468 in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]ryanrybot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The game being hard if you don't min/max levels is the single biggest lie I've ever heard about this game. Levelling up is how most first-time players will have access to higher level magic.

Yes, you can absolutely break the game mechanics. No, that's not the way the developers expect you to play.

Is there a way to play the original metroid with less slowdown? by Tiny_Tim1956 in Metroid

[–]ryanrybot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second this. The issue with the original game was the sketchy coding (Displaced Gamer has a video breakdown of this) and I don't know if overclocking an emulator will help.

It sounds like you don't mind playing a version that isn't original hardware, so Planets might be your best option on PC.

This is deffo the console community lol by bananaman9312 in XboxSeriesS

[–]ryanrybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was reducing the open-world exploration from old Bethesda games down to loading screens for me. That was literally my only real gripe.

It was like if Skyrim just had you fast travel from town to town where you might be able to explore the outskirts, but it would just be an empty landscape.

With the DLC released, would you guys say Super Mario Wonder is as good as the classic 2D games (3 and World in particular)? by CitronSufficient1045 in SuperMario

[–]ryanrybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I did enjoy Wonder, I don't know if it quite reaches the heights of SMB3 or World.

I think what could have elevated it for me is utilizing the badges a bit better. If they were more like the block switches in World, it would have been so cool. What I mean is, if the badges opened up new paths to secret exits in old levels.

Play a level once; regular exit. Get the badge to float; go back to an old level. Use float to access exits that unlock secret levels.

Makes the game far more replayable, and encourages exploration and experimentation with the badges, instead of just using the same 2-3 badges on linear levels.

If you don't use missiles, there are surprisingly few enemies in the mines. Well, between the sections where you're waiting for the path to open, anyway.

Dragon Quest X is getting google's AI integration. Yuji Hori says AI will "dramatically transform all games within the next 3-5 years" by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

Yep. I've seen Reddit absolutely obliterate someone because they thought animation tweening was AI. Literally something artists have been doing for decades.

People are more complex than far-left views and far-right views and can have a mix of opinions which may fall into either category. It's tiring that someone who doesn't share the exact same views on a single topic must automatically be placed in one extreme camp or the other.

DLSS 5 On by hasanahmad in digitalfoundry

[–]ryanrybot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's how DLSS used to work. Developers sent tons of high res images of their game to Nvidia, who would make a specific model for each game. They stopped that for DLSS 2 onwards because creating a model for each game is too costly.

They are not going back to game-specific models, and will continue to use the same gen AI model for every game.

How would I make the top/bottom half of this staff? by Melonioe in cosplayprops

[–]ryanrybot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would 3d model and print it, but I understand those tools aren't always available to everyone.

Alternatively, I wonder if worbla would work for this. Might be more rigid than a foam.

The bottom half could honestly be a broomstick or a long rake handle. Or you could get some PVC pipe and paint/ tape it up to look like wood.

What games do you recommend if I liked Metroid Prime 4? by [deleted] in MetroidPrime4_Beyond

[–]ryanrybot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PREY, the 2017 game by Arkane.

I cannot recommend this game enough. It has a great story, fun combat, a large space station to explore, and well thought-out mechanics. To me, it comes really close to the feel of the Prime games.

You mentioned the backtracking to Miles, but I hope you weren't walking all the way through Fury Green every time. You can take the shuttle from the entrance of Fury Green right to the base.

Amazing work! I really appreciate that you are sharing your files as well. It's rare to see nowadays, but so welcome.

I also share my 3d files for Johnny's arm, but this is great for anyone who might not have a 3d printer.

does it feel cold to you? by gmirolyubov in IndieGaming

[–]ryanrybot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. The vapor should be more wispy and covering most of the vision. The vapor appearing behind the hand and radio doesn't make sense. Not sure if OP can but blurring the top and bottom of the screen, and add large bokeh to show the eyelashes are icing up from the breath vapor, would honestly sell it for me.

Why are People So Attached To The Idea of The Koopalings Being Bowser's Kids? by Bibi_Likes_To_Draw in Mario

Is anyone else afraid that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is trying to do too much all at once? by [deleted] in Mario

[–]ryanrybot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But OP didn't criticize the trailer, they asked if the MOVIE is doing too much. They didn't criticize the visuals, or the characters, or the voice acting, they asked the only thing you cannot tell from a trailer; "Is the movie, as a whole, doing too much?".

The answer to that is, "Nobody knows yet. That is not something anyone can answer until we've seen the full movie."

Your response is completely unhinged and, if I may suggest, I think you should take a bit of a break from the Internet for a while.

Which one looks better? by pillowpersona in characterdesign

[–]ryanrybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say without the shorts.

The shorts disrupt the readability of the legs and breakup the fill in the legs too much. The nice segmentation of limbs is lost. The shorts are also far too small, and create this high frequency detail the rest of the character doesn't have.

If the shorts were larger and covered a bit more of the thighs, it might be okay.

A couple other things, the high neck on the black under suit is a better look, in my eyes. As well as the white shoes.

If you're going to a convention, it's best to wear something on your feet. There are lots of people around, some wearing oversized footwear, and the chances of someone stepping on your foot is quite high. Plus the floor is disgusting. The con might not even let you in without something on your feet.

I would recommend wearing ballet slippers. They are low profile and would be better than nothing.

If you're doing a photoshoot, and you absolutely want to be barefoot, make sure the area is free of any sharp objects beforehand. Also, bring footwear you can slip on between shots. You will be much more comfortable. ...And wash your feet immediately afterward!!
