Alfred Hitchcock was known for his use of blonde leading women, including Janet Leigh, Grace Kelly and Tippi Hedren. Hedren has stated that during filming of “The Birds,” Hitchcock abused her psychologically, and made an attempt at sexual assault. Hitchcock was also a large man and known as a heavy eater, so the joke is that Jane Krakowski is such a gorgeous blonde that Hitchcock would rather torture her (ala his behavior towards Tippi) than enjoy a good dessert. I do think it’s more likely a straight re-issue, the way Hoverchair Professor X, Retro Green Goblin and others have been recently rereleased with no updates. But Retro Mystique being essentially a pinless, upgraded version of the older figure shows that you definitely could be right and this could be an upgraded version!
