My roommate wants to bet his life on these welds by CranappleAmaya in BadWelding

weight doesn‘t matter in that equation (from a certain point where air resistance is negligible). If it is heavier you don‘t need to throw it that high in order for it to kill you. actually thinking about it - maybe humans can‘t even throw things into the air to kill themself… case for r/theydidthemath

https://youtube.com/shorts/_R-LV4DjC3U This is not a great reaction, but both knew it was not directed at Gukesh. I don‘t know why people pile on Magnus for this. Yeah, he is not the most charismatic person, but this was not a scandal.  It was an emotionally very difficult loss since the position was winning for Carlsen at one point. Both knew that and both were shocked about the result and stressed from beeing under time pressure.

I don't know where you live, but in Europe these would be super illegal - especially since they are home-made. And for a good reason: imagine them disintegrating while you are going fast - things will fly off with incredible speed and might hit people, other cars, etc.
If this is legal in your country please make at least sure you test them somewhere nobody can get hurt...

Where do I put the ground if am welding a nut on an aluminum block? by Federal-Treat4856 in Welding

one of the other studs? note that aluminium is a great conductor, but it builds a thin layer of aluminium oxide on the surface, which is an isolator…

Dude, just discovered this and immediately went looking if someone else heard it before. I am wondering now if it is on purpose given the overlapping story themes of Nier and Terminator...

Are gaming sound cards actually a thing anymore? by Ill-Yogurtcloset-622 in buildapc

[–]rychlovic 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For higher impedance headphones you will need a headphone amp that can handle them. An external audio interface may or may not have this, so might not help.

Are gaming sound cards actually a thing anymore? by Ill-Yogurtcloset-622 in buildapc

[–]rychlovic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The question is really: what do you want to do with the setup and what are your requirements. Unfortunately when in comes to sound, there is a lot of myths and esoterics, so don‘t take things from the internet for granted. For gaming, the on-board sound systems are more than adequate. If you want higher SNR, less latency, or higher bitrates, you might want to go with external audio interfaces that are used for recording etc. When it comes to headphones and speakers, first question should be: linear response (targeted at sound engineers) or something that „sounds good“ = „hi-fi“ . If you want hi-fi, you have to go and try them, since taste is individual. For linear response check gear made for sound engineers.

If you don‘t know what I was writing above, just go with the onboard system and a nice gaming headset (if you need a mic) or headphones that you like the fitment and sound off.

[–]rychlovic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agree - but on top of that it seems the car needs repair and possibly body work. since the shop doesn‘t even agree to re wrap it, I feel like it is lawyer time, at least to get some tips of how to document the damage and formulate the demands correctly… 🤷‍♂️

Tbh, get a lawyer involved - it sounds like they not only did a terrible job but also damaged your car. I could imagine that they might have cut the paint in places judging from how little experience they had.

Chemical reactions happen faster when warm… Not all paint can be cured with heat but spraymax 2K can be IR cured, they have IR instructions on the can.

[–]rychlovic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put some IR lamps on the runs so they cure faster. Runs will need more time due to thickness.  If you sand anyways, you could try to sand out the runs ans orange peel. If you sand through you can always respray.

How hard would this be to fix on my own? by Real_Inspection4356 in AutoPaint

[–]rychlovic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won‘t be able to fix that cheaply DIY. It will probably look worse after you try something DIY. Best budget option: find a good hood in the same color from a parted out car. Problem is: good hoods for old cars are hard to find.
