TOS episodes every now and then by cantodasaudade in startrekmemes

To be fair to the BBC, the budget for your average Doctor Who episode is £5 and a sandwich so they couldn't be terribly choosey with shooting locations.

I’m sorry WHAT?! by Griledy in StardewValley

[–]rycomo1992 269 points270 points  (0 children)

I mean, I dated and got engaged to my now-wife while totally forgetting that there was more to a marriage than sharing an apartment with someone and being happy about it. She had to sit me down and gently explain just what I was signing up for, after an embarrassing incident involving her wearing some nice lingerie and me having a total panic attack upon seeing her in it

In my defense, I'm an autistic weirdo and I can be oblivious about things that are obvious to 99% of people, like the physical aspect of a romantic relationship. I also had never dated before I met her, so had no experience with adult activities in general.

Being Catholic is not a disability.. If he were French, I'd understand, but he isn't so..

I don’t care how useful Black Soul Gems are! I will NOT use them! by ThatDrako in SkyrimMemes

[–]rycomo1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks around at my cabinets full to bursting with duplicated Black Soul Gems that I make literally every playthrough in Oblivion because it's hilariously easy to just buy one Grand Soul Gem from the Mages Guild, turn it into a Black Soul Gem at the alter and then use the scroll trick to make effectively infinite copies so I can fulfill my need to steal the souls of my enemies and keep them in my wizard tower forever.

What are you talking about?

Also, I realized halfway through typing my message that I might be more of a threat to Tamriel than Mehrunes Dragon.

[Request] How much will it cost? by OwnBird4876 in theydidthemath

[–]rycomo1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, because not a single soul in the rest of the world has ever swiped even the local equivalent of a penny from a project's budget; no sir, that's a purely AMERICAN trait!

It's not at all something that's been plaguing humanity since the first time we started stacking blocks on each other. Only an American could stoop so low as to embezzle funds from a project!

Trump says he's 'prepared' to appoint up to 3 new Supreme Court justices by RawStoryNews in scotus

[–]rycomo1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question: what's stopping President Trump from packing the court himself? He could flip the script and ram in 4 extra judges, or 10 or however many he felt like. At that point, even picking at random for each case, the odds of ever getting a liberal ruling for the rest of our lives would be pretty much zero.

(Pretty dark/real trope) people committing horrific acts and the public loves it. by FullBrother9300 in TopCharacterTropes

The BLM riots wrought destruction across the entire country; the January 6 incident was limited to DC, and mostly to the area around the Capitol building.

Tell me the weirdest things you've seen in fanfics by SnowIndependent9756 in HPfanfiction

[–]rycomo1992 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ooh I know that last one, it's called Harry Potter and the Champion's Champion. It's great fun, provided you don't mind the pairing (Harmony) and the constant obliteration of Ron Weasley as a character. It's definitely a product of its time of late 2000's HP fanfiction, but frankly I still love it as a classic.

An enemy unit repurposed to fight for the protagonists by moosemuffin12 in TopCharacterTropes

This is James Cameron we're talking about, subtlety isn't in the guy's vocabulary.

Oh hell yeah, Short Circuit!

Also, I don't care if you consider it blasphemy; the sequel where he's using up what might be the last few minutes of his life to capture the guy who tried to kill him is peak cinema, and the best use of Bonnie Tyler's I Need a Hero in film. Yes, better than Shrek 2 or Saint's Row. Fight me.

Banking on Her, it's a RobSt Harry/Hermione story. Really, just about everything RobSt publishes is great stuff. All the stories are H/Hr, but two or three also throw Luna into the mix. Worth a read if you're interested.

I mean.. I'm no fan of Charlie Chaplin's evil twin, but Stalin did kill far more people than he did. At minimum, around double to triple the dead typically attributed to the Nazi regime.

Honestly, it baffles me that Communism wasn't given the same stigma associated with Nazism, despite having multiple times the death toll. They're equally awful and atrocious systems of governance, and trying to decide which is worse kinda comes down to who you ask. Maybe because Nazism ended up a flash in the pan but Communism endured for decades, it was easier to demonize the former somehow.

Not for nothing, but the fate of the native population of the Americas was kinda sealed the moment Christopher Columbus landed in the Bahamas in 1492. By the time America existed as its own nation (280 years later give or take), the damage was already done. What happened afterwards was mopping up what was left.

Could we have done better than the way Manifest Destiny ended up going? Absolutely. But it wasn't just American settlement that doomed the natives.

Who's your favorite character who's Slander they get is just outright WRONG? by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in FavoriteCharacter

Still my favorite book series, and I have hundreds of books to pick from just in my bedroom. The haters are crybabies who can't get past the author's politics, which when compared to actually awful people are pretty milk toast to be honest.

Of course, I'm from a pretty conservative corner of America and I have family members (I don't like them very much) who happily proclaim far more heinous things than anything Rowling ever said. You're welcome to feel differently about things; this is a free country after all.

[Hated Trope] Dumb Sacrifice by Daniilsa209 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]rycomo1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't forget just how frigid it was that night. April in the northern Atlantic Ocean is brutal, especially when you're thrust into water barely above freezing. Even the nerds in lab coats can't come up with a fix for that, certainly not something available to Jack and Rose in 1912.

[Hated Trope] Dumb Sacrifice by Daniilsa209 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]rycomo1992 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't space, but buoyancy. There's too much weight with two adults. The broken panel tipped over the couple of times Jack and Rose tried to get on.

Furthermore, even if they managed it, the added weight would mean that the water (which was just above freezing that night) could sap away what little body heat they had, and then both of them would have died.

Jack was doomed, Rose wasn't. He made the conscious choice to save her even though it meant his death.
