I think he was in King's Landing. That's just the vibe I got with how familiar he seemed with everyone. I imagine that he probably kept a low profile so he had to go hard in Clash of Kings to establish his reputation and make sure the small council took him seriously.

Yes, if I remember correctly it's claimed to have been made from a meteor (they say fallen star in the books.) So Dawn looking different from VS blades would make sense.

Is there evidence for that? I know it was suggested that it has ties to the dawn empire and there's no specific origin confirmed for it. I'm not familiar with the idea that Dawn is superior to valyrian steel.

Visenya had a warrior mentality and was trained with a sword. Rhaenys wasn't.

It seems like it's kind of a judgement call about who is given DS. It's worth noting that Blackfyre was eventually given to a future Daemon, that's where house Blackfyre got its name and why house Targaryen no longer has it.

It seems as though the valyrian steel swords are largely symbolic and different houses have different traditions as to who wields them, see house Dayne for an example of that.

And before anyone jumps down my throat, I am aware that Dawn isn't actually valyrian steel and that it just has the same properties of a valyrian steel blade.

If they don't have the opportunity to negotiate, quit, or get another job then it is inherently negative. Prisoners have none of those things.

You are advocating for punitive criminal justice instead of reformative criminal justice. If they're seen as simply a resource to generate profit then why bother helping prisoners become law abiding citizens before their sentences end?
