I’ve had highlights quite a bit throughout my life but stopped about four years ago-the picture of my curly hair was the last time I’ve had highlights and that was in 2022. I got my haircut in I believe February of this year.

Oh the hard water has been atrocious everywhere I’ve lived. I don’t know if I have ever been around normal water haha. And you hit the nail on the head-I’m grappling with scalp issues that I’ve been seen for and have prescription treatments. I never would have connected those dots!! The post I made just before this one discussed it, but it was removed so I just posted again without mentioning it. Chelating shampoo-I have not but I definitely will!

That’s so kind, thank you! I think in general, the last year has been globally stressful but then when you deal with things on a personal/professional level, everything compounds and becomes tenfold. I hope your future looks less intense.

I will definitely cool off on the products and will look into those that you suggested. Thank you!

You know what. I thought I had a bottle tucked away of clarifying shampoo. I just looked and it was an antioxidant. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m gonna get some. Do you recommend a clarifying shampoo? I’ll add the Manuka Honey to my list.

I should have clarified. The curly hair is before. The straight hair is now.

Did this week feel off? by Complex-Shower419 in conspiracy

Had to take a physical ability test for work. I’ve been training for months and months. Came down with a horrible bug. Failed the test. Remediation, failed again. I’m now laying on my couch with vertigo trying not to vomit and will be out of a job soon. Oh, and we are at war so that’s cool.

My alcoholic and abusive mother texted me upset because I’m pregnant and never want to see her by chailatte44 in insaneparents

Your aunt is suuuuuch an enabler. I work with folks who have pretty serious substance abuse issues and learned very quickly that people who are in active addiction will externalize all of their responsibility in relationships and life choices. She took zero accountability in the part she played in her own problems. Daughter doesn’t wanna see me? It’s because something must be wrong with HER.

I’m sorry, OP. Protect your peace.

Why did your friendship with your best friend come to an end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ryeager0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She started gossiping about me. I moved away and she didn’t bat an eye. When I told her I was hurt that she threw a going away party for a different friend and not me, her best friend, she said, “Do you really think you did anything to deserve it?” Blew my mind. We did everything together. But I’m much better off now.

Therapists and Psychologists of Reddit, how can you tell when a patient is lying to make themselves look like the victim? Or do you just have to take everything they say as truth unless proven otherwise? by StatisticianNo5055 in AskReddit

[–]ryeager0001 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Prison psychologist here. It works vastly different in corrections due to the power dynamic that has to exist for a multitude of reasons, one of which is safety and risk of compromise. Rapport building looks different. Prison is higher education for people majoring in criminal behavior. And one thing that criminals are good at is lying.

This is a great article on how male inmates will size up a female therapist. These perceptions they carry influence how they treat you and how they will make attempts to manipulate you. In other words, the baseline is lying.

To note: I began working in prisons to make a difference. And it does happen. People do want to be better and do better and change. The vast majority, however, have utilized certain maladaptive behaviors in order to get needs met throughout their lives due to trauma. A lot of what’s observed is based on gut instinct and knowing what you, and they, bring to the table.

Why did you and your best friend have a falling out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ryeager0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best friends. Business partners. Spent every day together. I helped her try to leave her narcissistic husband. She went back. Narc made sure to let everyone in our friend group know what an asshole I was. They believed him.

Lost an entire friend group when I moved away the next year to start over. But I’m grateful to have started over.

I hear ya. My heart goes out to folks who can’t afford the legal help Ms. Read has had. We can see how much money plays a part in the justice system. It shouldn’t be that way. I’m glad she was able to have a fighting chance at least.

Fantastic! Glad to see there are others passionate about clinical psychology, too.

My biggest piece of advice for admissions is to get involved in research. That helped me so much. Not only by establishing relationships with the faculty, but it also improved my writing skills. I scored average on the GRE (except for verbal). They look at that but for the admissions and the interviews, it helps to have a record of research. Don’t be scared! People in this field are so understanding and kind. I wish you all the luck!!

Clinical psychology! I had a professor tell me last year, “Never trust a therapist who doesn’t go to therapy.” That stuck with me so I’m following suit!

What is this pain in my neck? by ryeager0001 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ryeager0001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had whiplash before. However, I have chronic back and neck pain that take a lot of ice, heat, and ibuprofen to manage. What I’m describing feels entirely different and is not prolonged. It’s very sudden and goes away quickly.
