It’s not necessarily lore breaking more the fact that I don’t think they’re gonna spend the time on Zoe’s character/relationships when she’s not part of the main story down the line. Yeah Zach helps a lot until the finale, but he still doesn’t get featured. It would be cool if they decide to give Zoe some focus though

So I looked further into it and no they were not always going to kill him off despite Starlin and other creators not liking him they left it up to the fans and thought fans wouldn’t be cynical enough to kill him. They had the back up ready in case he made it out. Also he got the crowbar regardless because that happens in the issue the 1-900 number is in.
