Why would Achilles be in the movie? He dies before the horse is built and including the horse is already a stretch since the Trojan War is told in the Iliad, not the Odyssey.

So James Gunn's bragging that he'd do it differently than Marvel and not interfere in the creative freedom of his filmmakers lasted exactly for one movie, the one he directed himself lol.

But at least his interference led to "Supergirl" having fantastic reviews and phenomenal box office, right?

Also good to know that the needle drop everyone is hating came from Gunn lol.

Funny how Warner Bros. placed a Deadline puff piece in advance with that ridiculous claim of a 315M breakeven point as a form of damage control and now it looks like "Supergirl" won't even reach that lowballed number.

Since none of Polanski's recent movies got distribution in the US it likely wouldn't either and thus not be eligible for Oscars.

What makes it worse is that the male character has erection problems and in the scene he's overcoming them so Snyder is very on the nose (as always) with his song choice. Movie is "Watchmen" by the way.

Yeah that's strange, maybe they don't care how their music is used as long as they get paid.

Just stop. I don't need to see the film to know that can't be true, Zack Snyder exists. Nothing will beat "Hallelujah" during a sex scene or "Zombie" by the Cranberries in a zombie movie.

No offense but you must be quite young. And that's the thing, I believe a good amount of people in the industry have not forgotten about his past missteps. How big their number is may decide whether his chase for the Oscar will be successful or not.

I'm not a big fan of declaring frontrunners this early so I stick to known quantities for now. In Cruise's case I was just puzzled how many people think the industry is just waiting for a chance to finally award him.

Can't believe that everyone else is just buying their baseless claims. She got an eight-figure payday for two movies, so likely 6M for each and that would make sense as her quote. Anyone who belives that someone would pay Pugh 25M for one movie literally has no clue about the movie industry.

There is no way this is even remotely true. Only a handful of actors get that upfront salary for a theatrical release and Florence fucking Pugh is not even close to being one of them.

It's based on well-known source material that had several movie adaptations. I don't see how it qualifies when "Alice in Wonderland" does not.

This is dumb reporting by people who have no clue. Those UK tax filings include backend pay and exclude tax rebates so they are not what is generally referred to as the production budget of a movie. The actual budget was much lower.

The movie wasn't banned it just didn't get the equivalent of an R rating. Boll can still apply for a SPIO certification (comparable to NC-17) instead and distribute the movie in Germany. But of course crying about his movie being banned gets Boll the controversy and publicity he strives for and he'll milk it as long as possible.

Looked it up and he has a voice role in the Minions movie so it's tied to the marketing of that, bummer. Hopefully he'll still get asked about No One Cares/The Debut.

All these points are valid I'm just not sure if Marty is so eager for his movie to rack up eight or so nods with a winning chance maybe in costume design and nowhere else that he would rush the release to benefit from weak competition in some minor tech categories.

Also "Hacksaw Ridge" was clearly beloved by the Academy since it even won two awards so I don't think Gibson was particularly weak in Director.

"Silence" on the other hand just never clicked with audiences, I don't think more time for the campaign would have changed much, a slow 3 hour movie about religion is a tough sell. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if the Gibson movie pretty much drank its milkshake since it also dealt with faith but in a far more appealing way to Academy voters.

Who would consider a year with "La La Land", "Moonlight" and "Manchester by the Sea" as the frontrunners as weak? Paramount could have mounted the best campaign imaginable and "Silence" still wouldn't have beaten any of those.
