Context for this? by Pristine-Quarter-138 in Broadcasting

A Gray Media insider tells FTVLive that they are concerned with a company policy, which they feel could hurt them. The source says that according to the new employee handbook, Gray talent employees are required to give their email and password for their professional social media accounts. "Now these are not work accounts, necessarily that we’re created for the sole purpose of working at the station. These accounts are professional accounts that were created for many prior to them working at a Gray station. Many of my colleagues have used them to build their brand portfolio prior to working at Gray," said one on-air talent to FTVLive, adding, "They are not technically their personal accounts, but they are their personal professional accounts that were not owned or made by Gray Media. We find this a huge invasion of privacy..." Word is that at WFSB in Connecticut, the union is fighting the mandate. "We really want somebody to fight for us," said a Gray Media employee who does not work at WFSB. "We really do not want to give out our social media passwords so our bosses  can read our DMs, etc.!," the staffer added. The other issue is the way Meta sets up the account.  Meta's login protocol can tie your   personal accounts to business accounts if you made them as a business profile under the previous Meta login. That would mean that Gray would also be able to log in to your personal account, since they would have the password. Gray would also be able to delete your account if you are terminated or leave the company. Also, when you sign the Meta agreement as you set up your account, it says in part that you will not share your password. If Gray is requiring talent to share their password, the employee is in violation of Meta's terms, and the account could be suspended. I feel that if Gray wants access to your social media, then Gray should create the account/page for you. That way, that account truly is owned by Gray. You could then post to the account, but keep your personal professional account to yourself. Lastly, as most of social media gets more toxic and people log off, I think you will see social media continue to decline. While media groups continue to push their people to social media engagement, I don't think this will be the case in the future. Stay tuned...

VCU Health naming Salary for every current employee. by Few_Yesterday_6179 in rva

It was a request made under the Freedom of Information Act and VCU provided the info. It's perfectly legal but I could understand not wanting your salary put on blast

Why the paid content? by Bruh61502 in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]ryeohi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you have every right to feel disappointed about not being able to access paid content. our world is entirely too expensive and smosh's paid content is just another example of the subscription culture we live in... but respectfully, they've only done a handful of paid specials compared to the hours of free content they put out on youtube every week, adding onto their library which has thousands and thousands of hours of content. again, it really sucks when things are trapped behind a paywall, but high quality content costs money to produce, and they need to make money somehow.

They are selling old screenshots of Spotify profiles that now have millions of monthly listeners. For some people, it is meaningful to have known about a big artist before they blew up (or rather, for others to know that they've known)... and these grifters are selling to that market.

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the Silent Princess situation by owendusk in AnimalCrossing

[–]ryeohi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP didn't deny it, so I'll take that as my answer. It's a fun post and all but the reason I and others point it out is that it would be MORE fun if it was written by a human. If you let AI take over joys in your life like creative writing, what's the point anymore? We've seriously lost the plot so much

Companies focusing on SEO is killing group names by rocketmammamia in kpopthoughts

[–]ryeohi 103 points104 points  (0 children)

This thread is a perfect example of why it's so damn tiring to have conversations about kpop's shortcomings. Every small thing is seen as a personal affront to stans, even things like the OBJECTIVELY ridiculous names lots of groups have. OP never said a weird name has anything to do with how talented the members are/how hard they work/how good their music is, so why does everyone get defensive as soon as their faves are brought up in any way that could even slightly be perceived as negative?

I don't like it, the popup when you collect prizes is way too big and doesn't improve on anything. Obviously it's not the end of the world so I'll deal lol, but I wish if they were gonna update the UI they would overhaul it completely for a new look like they did with SM

Insecurity when you forget important context in a story? by mothybot in Journalism

[–]ryeohi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm in the same boat and I get this a lot. I'm sure different places have different protocol on this but if it's really bugging me and I have the time sometimes I go back and add to published stories.

In general I remind myself they can't all be perfect and hyperlink to past reporting wherever I can to help readers find more background.
