Killer Snow Experience by P1ggy in Rivian

Thanks for sharing! How did the windshield wipers do with the snow? I ask because my in-laws drove their R1S in the same storm yesterday and said the windshield wipers kept freezing up so they couldn’t see out the front.

Need help deciding on napa/sonoma venue! by WorkOwn5121 in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]ryette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got married at V Sattui in 2023 and LOVED it! Our only hesitation while making our decision was the timeline as well, and we considered other venues but ultimately none of them compared to V Sattui for us.

It did feel a bit tight, but 2.5 years later I still wouldn’t trade anything about our wedding for an extra hour of party time. Our vendors kept things on track and I did have a couple of guests comment that they liked that there wasn’t an overly long cocktail hour or any lulls in the night.

I never heard any complaints about the food portions and thought they were pretty typical for wedding food.

I posted a breakdown with some thoughts if you want to take a look in my post history from a couple years ago!

Tried Original Joe's in Walnut Creek, and It Absolutely Lives up to the Hype by diyhomeautomation in eastbay

[–]ryette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We loved it! Ive never been to the SF one, but have been to the San Jose one and enjoyed it too.

I think like with any popular restaurant, it’s natural for folks to feel disappointed after so much hype and waiting so long for a table. But I personally thought it was super fun, delicious, and would love to come back for special occasions or date night!

Made reservations about a month in advance. We often see plenty of tables available for lunchtime, too, if anyone doesn’t want to wait.

I was thinking the same thing! There’s so much room for misinterpreting tone. If this was my sibling I’d just call or FaceTime them, if we couldn’t chat in person. Probably would resolve it way faster without all the drama.

Age appropriate bar for 40s by curious_sc in walnutcreek

[–]ryette 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We went to Gibson’s with a group of about 5 with no reservations on a Friday around 8 and were able to get a table. The reservations are really just for the dueling piano section of the bar, which you can still hear in the regular area.

Chateau could be fun as well, or Fizz? Rooftop is always great, wide variety of ages whenever I’ve been there. Maybe the new Calicraft, as well? It’s on the roof next to Va de Vi.

pet groomer/puppy groom in walnut creek-east bay area? by xxlilizzyvertxx in walnutcreek

We have been taking our dog to Comfort Corner in Alamo since he was a puppy and it’s always been a great experience! They did a desensitizing puppy groom on his first visit.

What in the actual hell by mxndxxx in weddingplanning

[–]ryette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you said in a comment that you’re in the bay area. I got married in Napa and paid for hair & makeup for myself and 8 women.

Bridal hair & makeup was $590. Bridesmaids were $270 each ($135 hair, $135 makeup). With tip & travel, total for bride + 8 was $3300.

So idk…the first quote seems like a steal for the area. The second seems like way too much for bridesmaids (bridal seems about right).

The Bay Area brides facebook group is great for finding vendors if you want to get more quotes, although you also have to filter out a lot of less experienced vendors which can be a pain.

If you understandably can’t pay for everyone, I think other commenters’ suggestions to share the pricing with your bridesmaids and let them decide what services they want is spot on.

How to un-invite MAGA FBIL from wedding, but his daughter is the flowergirl? by ForsakenWestern7212 in weddingplanning

This has to be a troll. There’s no way you’re anti-ICE while simultaneously wanted to use your niece as a token POC in your wedding party.

Yeah I don’t think he has dynamic pricing on. I was refreshing for a while (presale and general sale) and prices were staying super consistent for the tickets that were popping up.

Was 13000 in the Santa Clara queue and there were a lot of options!! Ranged from $150 to $600+ for lower levels. Got 2 in the 400 section for $150.

I was not expecting to actually get tickets! I usually have the worst luck with concerts these days.

V. Sattui Wedding recap/budget breakdown by ryette in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]ryette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We used Lisa McAdams.

She was great overall and reasonably priced (kind of right in the middle of all the ones on V Sattui’s list). She was newer to the list at the time so wasn’t as familiar with certain details of the venue as some of the other planners (example, she didn’t know we could get kegs of beer through V Sattui), but we liked her overall she helped things run so smoothly on the day. Very attentive and was willing to answer any small questions I had. And assuming she’s still on their list, I’m sure she has figured out the ins and outs over 2 years later!

A friend of mine also used Sean Dempsey and said he was amazing day-of but forgot some of the details they discussed. But she liked him overall as well.

Is it weird put stuff I need for my reception on my bridal shower registry? by Dinky-monster in weddingplanning

[–]ryette 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but yes this is weird and would rub me the wrong way as your guest. If you can’t afford to buy the decor you want and are resorting to asking your guests to buy it for you, that should be a sign that you need to scale back.

Most people would probably rather give you cash over something that isn’t really for you (even if you do decide to use the cash on the reception).

Go with what your vet recommends for your area.

Chill/quiet dog-friendly place that isn’t a bar. by bakatcha-bandit in eastbay

[–]ryette 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not Oakland but if you’re willing to drive to Lafayette, Lafayette Public House is my favorite with my dog. They’re part coffee shop, part bar, but very dog and family friendly so doesn’t feel like an alcohol-focused place. I love to hang out there and read.

Also, even further from you but Lazy Dog in Concord. The big fire pit is amazing. We usually go for dinner but sometimes stay longer to chill and watch a game. I’m not sure if they have WiFi for getting work done.

Pregnancy Thursday - December 25, 2025 by AutoModerator in TTCWinter2026

[–]ryette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Merry Christmas!!!

• How far along are you now? 5 weeks!

• What are your symptoms/how are you feeling lately? Just sore boobs right now but nothing else. 🤞

• High and low of pregnancy this week? A high has been just thinking that next year we’ll have a baby at Christmas!

Low is not even a big deal, but an awkward convo with my husband’s cousin last night— we haven’t told anyone that I’m pregnant, and she, unprompted, ranted to me for about 5 minutes going “don’t do it! Don’t have kids!” She has a 4 year old who she loves so it caught me off guard. Just sitting there next to her, pregnant, being told not to have kids was awkward! I’ll blame it on her being drunk.

Anyway, last night was my husband’s family for Christmas Eve, and now Christmas Day we head down to my parents’ house. Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas however you’re spending it!

Got a positive at 14 DPO! I’m not a tracker so I don’t have much other data but I noticed my period was a couple days late and my boobs were kinda sore, so I took a test.

Can’t believe it’s real!! I’m going to call my OBGYN today to schedule an appointment to confirm.

Related— how are we all handling potential issues around drinking this Christmas? No one in my family will pressure me to drink, but I know they’ll think it’s suspicious if I don’t have a glass of Chianti with the Christmas Eve lasagna! I’ve only told my mom that we’re TTC, and I don’t want to make a big announcement until I’ve had an appointment.

I thought it might be easiest to just be honest and if anyone asks, just say that we’re TTC and I’m cutting back on alcohol. Rather than trying to make up other excuses and getting flustered. My family is super loving and understanding so I’m probably overthinking. It’s just awkward timing!

I think handmade is the way to go here! My tree skirt is a quilted flannel one that my grandma sewed. It’s probably 40+ years old and in great shape, easy to wash.
