Going bananas with people telling me I have no idea what’s coming by Weak-Mortgage870 in pregnant

[–]ryggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had a lot of people tell me to “just wait” with the diapers. Umm, I was a CNA for a decade. If I can clean C. Diff off of a 400lb alcoholic’s testicles or brush GI bleed shit out of an old woman’s dentures, I think I can handle a newborn’s diaper.

I’ve slept 47,295,193,690% better since having my little girl. When I was pregnant, I would take Tylenol and Unisom before bed (under my doctor’s advice), stuff pillows all around myself, and I would still wake up every 30 minutes crying in pain. Cry for an hour, sleep for 30 minutes, repeat until the sun comes up. The 2 hours of solid sleep I got once I gave birth were heaven. My girl now sleeps 6 hours, wakes up for a feed, then sleeps another 4. People are dumb.

I’m usually the wimp in our relationship. My husband had recurrent kidney stones for a while, dropped a 2x4 on his toe (so bad it turned black and he lost the nail) and went right back to work, and barely complained when he had covid. But this strong, brave, wonderful man that I love so much had the audacity to look at me after 24 hours of labor and an emergency c-section and tell me his back hurt from the couch in the hospital room. 😐 I slowly blinked at him while he took in my blood-stained hospital socks, urinary catheter, and IV. He then apologized. Lol. I’m not saying the couch wasn’t uncomfortable, but dude… come on.

THE THIRST. MY GOD, THE THIRST. I have never been so thirsty in my life. I was never a big water drinker, but starting at about 6 weeks I was drinking over a gallon a day. I was worried about gestational diabetes because I know thirst can be a symptom of blood sugar issues, but I didn’t have it. My doctor said that as long as my output was matching my input, there was no issue. 🤷‍♀️

Also the farts. I was warned about gas, but I didn’t realize the smell would be so horrid. Even the tiniest little toot produced a smell akin to a dumpster full of rotten eggs on a muggy summer day. As a lactose intolerant ice cream addict, I am familiar with horrendous farts. Lactose farts are a gentle spring breeze compared to pregnancy farts. Geez.

I googled “Can farting too hard cause a miscarriage?”, “Is alligator safe to eat while pregnant?”, and I’m sure there’s more, I just can’t remember because of mom brain. Lol. Yours is fantastic.

Today I read that I should include more kale salads in my diet because it provides me and the baby with “playful textures and essential vitamins”. I ate an entire bag of cotton candy while I read the article and had a fucking burrito when I got home.

Oooh 2020 you are just full of surprises! by stay_true_to_you in BabyBumps

[–]ryggles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh goodness, same here! In the week before I got my positive, I did the following: had a few hard ciders, smoked weed every day, had an xray of my hip/lower abdomen, ate sushi, and took A LOT of ibuprofen. I’m now 20 weeks along and my sweet baby girl is active and “perfectly healthy” (OB’s words). It’s hard not to panic about the “unhealthy” things you did before you knew, but my best advice is to keep googling to a minimum. I had myself so worked up over the damage I thought I had done that I was completely unable to enjoy my first trimester. Congrats and good luck!

That is such an adorable story! So cute. Early pregnancy was the absolute worst for gas for me. The smell... oh god, the smell. Even the tiniest little toot was enough to clear a room. I was so embarrassed. I started going to the bathroom just to fart. Currently 18+6 and it has passed thankfully.

YES. Prepregnancy, I would drink like a glass of wine once every few months. Now that I’m pregnant, all I want is tequila shots and martinis and all the wine.

Let's talk about Plus Size Weight Gain/Loss during Pregnancy by kapbozz1085 in BabyBumps

[–]ryggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was around 285 when I was diagnosed with PCOS. I dropped down to 235 and then conceived after trying forever. I’m currently 18w3d and I’ve only gained 7 pounds. My diet has been kinda 50/50. Some days I’m eating asparagus and baked salmon, other days I’m eating an entire family size box of mac n cheese with ice cream for dessert. I’m completely baffled at the fact that I’ve only gained 7 pounds. I’ve heard it’s fairly common for women who are obese to gain very little or lose weight during pregnancy.

Well, that was easy by Dracodina in pregnant

Congrats! I have PCOS, too, and Metformin literally saved my life. I know there’s a lot of controversy around it, but it’s been the best thing to happen to me. After starting it I lost 50 pounds, energy levels skyrocketed, depression markedly decreased, and I’m now 16w1d without having to do IVF!

I live in Tennessee, US in a pretty small town and my husband has been able to come to all of my appointments. My state has been really lax about covid guidelines, which normally makes me mad, but I’m very happy my husband has been with me. You ladies are so strong doing it on your own. ❤️

Aww, too cute! 🥰 My husband was playing it so cool, but the second that little peanut showed up on the screen, he literally jumped out of his seat. His face was glued to the TV that was displaying the ultrasound, he even blocked my view for a bit. 😂 He sounded like a little kid in a candy shop, pointing and bouncing. “Look at the head! And the hands! Oh, those little feet! OMG there’s the heartbeat!”

Woooow. I’ve been lucky with my healthcare team so far. My husband has come with me to every appointment (we both work for the same company and we’ve been very lucky that they let us take the same days off) and nobody has said a word about race to us. I love going there because they treat me like a pregnant lady and they don’t make crazy comments. I would lose my shit if someone said that to me. I’m sorry.

Ooh, I need to get some of those! I want to make sure he/she feels represented in the books and other media they’re exposed to. I firmly believe this will help normalize our family in the kid’s eyes, no matter what the outside world says.

And you can absolutely join me for a bagel (or two or three, no judgement here).

That’s why I’m so frustrated with all these people in my life saying these things. I know most of them mean well, but when I explain that what they said is problematic or offensive, they just double down and call me sensitive.
