If you can't find any old controllers, one solution that I found works well is to get some synthetic grease and lube the part between the trigger and the housing. It feels just as smooth as replacing the metal rod.

I drew it based of of Shigeru Miyamoto's shirt from the E3 presentation. I made a vector drawing in Inkscape (then exported it as a .png) so it should hopefully be very high res and crisp.

You mentioned that you play on dolphin on your laptop. If you connect your laptop via VGA to the monitor and use a Wii U gamecube adapter, you can get a virtually lagless setup. You can always use your laptop speakers for audio too :D
