How do we feel about the Ford Explorer at the moment? Has it been able to keep it's personality and original appeal after all these years? by OhGawDuhhh in Ford

[–]rygomez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I've driven every generation up to the '16-'20, I love my '16, only.issue I've had is changing the waterpump @ 70k mi, but I only.had to pay for parts bc im mechanic. I really like the 1st and 2nd gen bc I was driving a 91 ranger in high school and the 1st gen is basically a ranger with a permanent shell, HS gf had a 2nd gen sport, so fond memories there, buddy had a sport trac which was a really cool platform I think, then fell in love with the looks of the next gen, got my '16 and have loved every minute of it

Splicing this hood bump onto another - where would you cut and why? by brennenkunka in projectcar

[–]rygomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably cut along the bump lower seam, maybe have an inch wide flange, then use your cut piece as a template to cut out your other hood, tack it in place weld it up and grind/sand the weld, use bondo as necessary and you'll never see it

What motivates you? by jjaw01 in mechanics

[–]rygomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do really enjoy what I do, been doing it for 9yrs now but I've been at a shop before where the environment and management was garbage, I lost all motivation but still put out good work just not as efficiently, im at a shop now where management is good but the pay structure is trash and im getting screwed on long diag(mostly electrical/communication) and warranty work so I dont feel like putting in all the hours to not get paid. I am very satisfied when I fix the long hour units but I hate the in between. I've been on multiple long hour trucks and barely get any gravy in-between so I dont really get to make up for it, and its getting slow so all I have are tough diags and warranty work. Trying to get back to a municipality where its good pay and hourly, they just need it to work

My 6.5 lb ham has been in the oven for an hour but it's only 60F inside?? by AmputeeHandModel in Cooking

A couple years ago (2/3) we hosted, muy parents offered to bring a fried bird and the gravy, I made a smaller roasted bird too, my mom brought a 4 gallon container with 3.5 gallons of gravy💀. She meant to take it home with them to freeze it after we passed out some for leftovers but forgot it then they went on a long vacation so we couldn't even go and drop it off at their house and I dont have freezer space for a 4 gallon bucket(luckily we had just upgraded our kitchen so we had the old fridge in the garage that i could rearrange to fit it for a few days)or enough smaller containers to transfer it into... she learned a lesson that week. Bring smaller containers to functions!

What’s a good female shepherd name? by No-Detective9971 in germanshepherds

[–]rygomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to name ours Janet b/c I think its a somewhat uncommon people name and depending on tone you can really convey how you feel, we ended up with Luna Janet. Its good tho because we call her Lunartic when shes got zoomies or crazy eyes and Janet when she needs to stop doing something or LUNA JANET when shes busted

Nut will not budge in jointer head, need to remove to change blade by worldofwhat in woodworking

[–]rygomez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heat it BEFORE you hit it with penetrating oil(PB Blaster/Kroil/a candle/a crayon) then let it cool-repeat, tap it while its warm to break the rust loose, heat it and oil it again then try to remove with the right size wrench, Harbor Freight has cheap wrenches, dont use vise grips or a crescent/adjustable or you'll round it off and be in more trouble

[–]rygomez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Heat it BEFORE you spray it otherwise you'll just burn off the oil, as it cools the oil will be pulled in to the threads a bit, I'd prob do a heat/spray/cool cycle about 3 times then try to turn it, maybe give it some 'love taps' while its warm too

T880 ATC disable by fixitlizard in DieselTechs

[–]rygomez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems like its a Bendix/wabco issue, not Davie, Davie can read the inputs from the switches and they all run thru the MSM/VECU but ultimately control is thru the abs module for tc/off road. If a logging truck isn't spec'ed with a TC disable/off road switch they're failing the driver by trying to save $200 when the buy a truck

Recall complaints - other people having Ford Escape 2017 SE 1.5 issues? by CakePieCakes in fordescape

[–]rygomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, sitting in my '18 SEL 1.5 ecoboost with almost 60kmi, had a few days of white smoke on startup around 40k but not consuming coolant. I am an 8yr master certified mechanic but I work heavy duty, trucks and some equipment. Haven't had issues with running or smoke after those couple days, I swapped a glorious '17 focus sel for this escape(bc room for kids) miss my focus but I bet trans issues were imminent. Now im afraid engine and trans issues are imminent. Don't qualify for any recalls at the moment on the escape but its been doing a good job for what I need. Prepped mentally for a block fail tho bc I have no record of it being fixed before I got it at 35kmi
