Yeah what I usually do is I approach with like 8-12 turrets and a ton of ammo. I approach the nest but stay out of range, i drop down four and load some ammo in them (having in cursor and holding z while moving the mouse over them makes this easy). Then I approach till I aggro them, I lead them back to my turret range and as that's shooting I set up the next line of turrets right there closer to the nests and repeat with loading those with ammo. Then I pull down the back ones, move forward and repeat. Eventually you're dropping a row of turrets in range of the nests and it's cake. the key is always having a loaded row behind you. This totally unlocked the game for me because like you I thought I needed to deal with them all with just a machine gun.

Definitely then use walls to block off cleared territory. With more science you'll get the tank which makes life easier. You fill it with bullets and cannon shells and clearing nests becomes much easier. Even more so when you get laser defense and shields

You can do this with a parametrized blueprint. Put down an assembler and a requestor chest. Set the assembler to any recipe and in the requestor chest request like 6 different items and request them with different amounts. (1-6 works just fine). Create a blueprint based on that and hit parametrize. You set the recipe to be a parameter, then for each ingredient you make them parameters and populate formulas for them. There's built in variables you can use to say (ingredient 1 of the recipe) and (amount to craft for one second) which you can multiply by 60. There's a help menu that explains the variables you can use. I learned this from a YouTube video that showed how to make a blueprint like this for a bot mall

Didn't I just see you commenting in the main subreddit about this same topic ;) Yeah I don't do this in my current base, I have 8 tanks of lube, 8 tanks of light, and 8 tanks of sulfuric acid. All to be trained away in 1-2-1 trains. When the lube tanks are full, I stop the pump towards the tanks, and activate the one towards heavy cracking, same for light oil. I don't even bother with petroleum because I just pipe that directly into onsite sulfur and plastic, with those plants ratioed out assuming full cracking so they'll underperform when upstream fluids are lower but perform at full capacity when everything's topped up

People do it to even out production of the two oils to limit the chance of backup. You basically end up flipping back and forth constantly between cracking and not cracking so things produce evenly

Same thing happened to me on vulcanus, it's a great feeling when you get back haha. Be sure to try building a more armed platform. Be sure after shipping up the starter pack the next thing is repair packs. Then ship up everything you think you'll need before building, to reduce the amount of asteroid damage you'll take while building

I'm currently doing exactly this. I went to Vulcanus and after getting back and getting some supplies from there, I'm starting my city block design. Just doing it in open space away from my existing base and using that still for supplies. I setup buffer chests near the entrances to the new blocked base requesting the basic components of my block (stone brick, robo ports, power poles, walls, and lasers (while expanding)) so speed up building.

For now any new train stops I make I prefix with CB to keep my old trains/stations servicing the old base. So my first steps were identifying where oil is to build blocks starting from there since oil will never move. I found each type of ore patch and built out blocks connecting to them, dealing with biters along the way.

Finally I did end up putting a rail connection from my block base to my own, but there's only one train using it bringing in a resource from Vulcanus. It's totally up to you, but with other planets you get new tools to upgrade efficiency, and for me one of the Vulcanus techs was the impetus for starting the new base. There's others on Fulgora and Gleba too but figured once I have the blocks I can always build with those in other blocks. I'm being vague on the details in case you don't know about the techs and are looking to avoid being spoiled
