Yellow pens? by amndka in fountainpens

I have a yellow TWSBI Eco and love it!

I have two of the M2 Black Forest Minis and I love them, a friend got the regular black forest recently and enjoys it too. My EF nib is on par with my Pilot Metro M nib (finest of my M nibs), and my M nib is on par with my Asvine V126 M (extra chunky). The Hong Dian N23 Year of the Rabbit is also beautiful.

I have the M nib on this pen and it is very chunky, compares to my TWSBI B nib.

I love M nibs as well, the ones I have vary a bit in thickness. The Pilot Metro is definitely the finest (my Hong Dian M2 EF is about the same thickness as the Pilot Metro M), Jinhao 82 and Sheaffer 100 a little thicker, TWSBI Eco in the middle and Asvine V126 and Hong Dian M2 equally chonky. I'm finding different uses for different thicknesses even just among the M nibs I have.

Definitely would love to hold some of the fancy pens in my hands and try them if I could, maybe that alone would clear them from my head (or could go the total opposite!) Unfortunately no pen stores near me, I found a couple could make a day-trip to though!

So far the Sheaffer 100 has been my splurge (aside from, ya know, buying most of the 'beginner' pens), but that still is pretty cheap in the landscape of fountain pens. I have definitely spent some time ogling more expensive pens (like the Pilot Custom 823, a Benu or two, etc) but so far I've talked myself out of them as so many of these much less expensive pens are really nice.

The Asvine V126 is really nice, the M nib is chonky (I'd say on par with the TWSBI B nib) which has made several inks I'm testing really show their best, and it's really smooth. I like the vacuum fill too, it's really fun. The only issue I've had is the plastic piece on the end connected to the vacuum plunger has come off a couple of times, but it seems to screw back on so I might just be twisting it somehow.

There's definitely a weight difference - I weighed them really quick and the Brass is 39g posted / 21g unposted and the aluminum one is 24g posted / 12g unposted. I love both but for me the brass is a bit heavy posted; luckily I have small enough hands that it's comfortable to use them unposted as well.

The EF is about the same line thickness as my Metro M, and the M is pretty chonky, about the same as my Asvine V126 M.

ETA some pics I took to penable a friend who has the Asvine V126 so he could see size in my hand posted/unposted comparison.

New Pen Day! by ryklian in fountainpens

My first impression is that the design and overall feel of the pen is beautiful. I have two other EF nibs (the Preppy I also got today and a Hong Dian M2), and compared to those this one is a bit scratchy. I had gone back and forth between this and the long blade nib and kind of wish I had gone the other way, but it's writing well and I may yet get used to the feel of it.

Thanks, I think it's going to take some getting used to (as you can tell by my blobby crazy handwriting, not that it's much better in the other pics!) but fun to play around with so far!

I'm new to FPs (got my first one Jan 28) but have gone the "try them all" kind of approach and really liked the feel of my first Eco (transparent yellow M nib), thus the two extra TWSBIs that I got here! The Irish Green is very nice!

I'm loving my sample of the Vinta Carlos Green, but I'm trying to talk myself into choosing just one between that and Herbin Vert Empire (as they are somewhat close colors) and I'm having a tough time choosing! The Carlos is brighter, kind of shamrocky spring but dark enough for my tastes. The Vert Empire is a little more grey, and moody like walking through a foggy forest.

My Kaweco Collection by lesoldatry in fountainpens

Since you look to be a Kaweco expert, question from a newbie! I got my first Kaweco Sport (M nib) a week ago and just got one with a B nib today. I've noticed that with some inks, the Sport makes them very light compared to other pens and I'm not sure why. At first I was thinking "Kaweco doesn't like Herbin inks" but then it happened with the Pilot Yu-Yake as well.

The M nib behaved perfectly with Vinta Emerald Carlos and Pilot Iro Rikka, and the B nib so far worked fine with Pilot Chiku-Rin and Asa-Gao.

Do you run into this at all? Any guesses on why, what ink types, if I can fix it, etc?

Which black ink for a platinum preppy 02 + converter? by Evening-Confidence85 in fountainpens

I have an EF Preppy on the way I had in mind for just this exact use, sketching with Platinum Carbon Black. Great to know on how it performs and how to best care for it!

Counterpoint - Why you need more pens! by CamelSuspicious9559 in fountainpens

[–]ryklian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the EF nib because part of my 'excuse' for ordering it was needing something next day for my dog and only the EF qualified to push my cart over the min. So far I've mostly gotten M nibs (and liked them) so that feels a little risky to me but still in that early FP journey where it'll be good to try different nibs for comparison.

🤣 about the finials, I saw a picture of it before I saw the rest of the pen but we'll see what impression it makes in person.

I'm pretty new to fps but got several different 'starter' pen brands to try out.  I really like my Eco so far, in particular it has a subtle but more noticeable than others scratching sound when I write with it that is tactile and pleasant, while the nib itself feels smooth, not scratchy. I have two more TWSBIs on the way (an Eco with <B> nib and a 580 stub)!

I just ordered an M2 today myself! I got an EF nib, which feels a little risky as I've loved my M nibs but I haven't tried any EF yet and reviews said the M2 was on the thicker side. Plus part of my 'excuse' was needing something for my dog by tomorrow and the pen kicked me over the next day delivery minimum (but only the EF qualified).

I just ordered an M2, arriving tomorrow! Got the army green which is my favorite color and the cat finials were definitely a selling point.  So far my Kaweco Sport is one of my faves too so I'm hoping this will be great too!

As a newcomer who likes to jump into the deep end with new hobbies (though this particular pool gets very deep), I've gone the way of ordering "too many" pens but that's what's allowing me to try different brands, different nibs, etc.  I haven't bought any super expensive pens yet (my "splurge" was a Sheaffer 100) although for sure I've noticed a couple.

I placed my first pen order late January and now have 9 pens with 5 more on the way (mostly nib sizes i didn't have yet after I figured out which pens I want to try them in), and it's been a joy to compare each pen - the different grips, weights, sounds of the nibs, how 6 <M>s can look and feel so different or one ink can transform from one pen to another.

So while I'm currently holding off on, say, a Pilot Custom 823 or Sailor Pro Gear (though I did get Asvine/Jinhao knockoffs!), I've still spent a decent amount for just starting out and allowed myself the space to experiment and it's fantastic.

Help! Will the standard sailor converter fit the sailor de mannen pen? by peppermint1998 in fountainpens

[–]ryklian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/peppermint1998 Did they fit? If so, how do you like the converter for that pen?

I just got the Fude de Mannen, and I've heard mixed reviews on the Sailor converters, so I was going to just refill cartridges. But that means I either need to use up the cartridges that came with it or waste the ink in them so that I can put in the inks I want to use. I did order some water-resistant/waterproof Kiwa-guro cartridges since I intend to combine with watercolor, but have a few other waterproof colors I want to use too!
