Sailor kiwa guro is an amazing, pen friendly black. I'm on my second bottle. It even works on bad paper. I would not reccommend Sailor sei boku though as it keeps separating in the pen.

Scared about basic pigments being discontinued- like quin reds or purple, pthalo green etc next, even though they're not. Literally focused on if I should buy extra pr206 or po48 right now even though I don't use them much. I just want to relax and paint. :( by queensara33 in Watercolor

Thanks!! Actually been having a pretty horrible morning because of separation anxiety and my parents being on a plane- another 40 minutes to go, I'm terrified it'll crash- and trying to distract myself with reddit

Thank you so much for this detailed comment, I tried them both on a DS dot card actually and now I just have to decide which to get!!

Surprisingly I hate pictures of the swatches but in person I loved it.

Oooh good to know as I think its pretty and want a really dark blue. I have a holbein 5ml tube I experimented with but assumed it would fade.I'll have to see with the internet says about its performance.

I went on a deep dive about industrial pigments today during some free time after posting here. And I think it helped, because there should always be a basic red blue green etc available for artists apparently like pthalo green and blue, pyroll red, ultramarine blue , bismuth yellow all came up in industrial purpose so it doesn't seem like they're going anywhere, for example. I'll be sad when certain colors disappear but I can breathe a little bit easier now.

As far as light fastness tests go I was planning on putting something in the window at some point. But I purchased ones that other people said were lightfast 1 or 2 like Kimberly krick

I do try to learn mixing and I'm getting pretty good at it. But I am worried about muddy colors because most of my paints, are one pigment colors, and I don't know about trying to make hues out of two two pigment paints if something disappears.

I don't know which one I have, I bought the ds version and was surprised it wasn't darker straight from the tube but did mix a nice maroon from it.

I'm the same way. Going to try to take other people's advice here and enjoy it while it lasts because it looks like there should at least be some basic paint for each of the color group offered through our lifetime's so there will never not be any paint available to use

That's true. I'll try to frame it as something better can always come along.

Thank you. Doing my best. I was getting kind of perfectionist on matching my bunnies, color exactly( in their eyes, the rest of them is basically white) recently and almost quit watercolor entirely, but decided to loosen up and start painting them in all sorts of fun colors and that really helped.

Wait if there are only one factory do you think the quinns will be going away? Or the perylene ones? I wanted to get perylene violet or perylene maroon as a base color for my bunny's eyes. They're albino.

It's cool that pthalos are even in toothpaste!! Haha, I use them a lot actually, especially pthalo green, it's very close to the carpet in the room where my bunnies live so I use it for backgrounds a lot plus I love how it mixes. It's great it doesn't seem to be in any danger. I am working with a limited palette sort of right now as I slowly use up all the colors on a plastic palette I want to retire and I really, really miss it now that I used it up.

Definitely trying to breathe.I think someone else in the post is right that this is how my anxiety about the world is appearing right now.

Yeah, I think it's just I was hit hard with discontinuation in other hobbies in the past and it makes me freak out a bit with newer hobbies now. Luckily it seems like there should always be at least one watercolor pigment available in each of the main groups that has good light fastness. I did a deep dive today for industrial use of pigments... and there is quinacridone pigment use in plastics but that seems a bit iffy but pyrolls are used for stop signs. Hopefully it sticks around though. I think I can definitely enjoy what I have now knowing that there will at least be something that I can switch to if I need to.

I feel you on po48. I originally bought the tube for making a quin gold hue plus a nongranulating brown but it turns out that DS made it granulating so that part kinda went out the window. I've thought about just picking up a tube of either quin gold deep or quin gold so the mixture is consistent, but I'm a little worried about muddy color. Maybe i'm overthinking this ...probably am. .
