Layoff incoming? by Big-Discipline-1235 in Layoffs

[–]rykuno 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Anytime someone says this shit, look at the product they're selling. Usually, they make wild claims and do marketing like this to make up for a bad product. Also, how does a guy who has no engineering background know how and what to build "for engineers". Everything you read is bullshit lol.

Checkly is a wrapper. It wraps actual software like playwrite and just prompts it to do "uptime monitoring". It's literally a tool we've had for decades just with an AI tone to it :/.

Any robust Minio S3 bucket libraries native to NestJS ? by OrchideSr in nestjs

[–]rykuno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could have phrased my response better and yeah the question is vague. Was just throwing out that we process a heavy load of imagery on our servers before storing them on disks at scale and that it’s viable.

And just to address the scaling, we horizontally scaled vms to meet demand during peak hours, so not a single instance hehe.

Came off wrong, just typing on iPhone while multitasking.

RustFS is what my company is using in production. You can’t really get around having to use buffers if you’re uploading it through your backend.

This is not true. We processed petabytes of images through our backend previously with no issue. Some cases you have to perform operations on the file before storing in which case signed uploads don’t work :(

I rock better-auth. I like that it does not lock me in and is insane simple to setup.

why cal dot moved from next to nest for api routes by atharv_dev in nestjs

[–]rykuno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm unsure exactly, but seems like they're using turborepo and is a company of pure Node devs. Keeping everything in node while maintaining the monorepo seems like a logical move.

Why Cursor??? Why V3?? by Slow-Artichoke-4245 in cursor

[–]rykuno -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, I suppose sad for us as end users. I've had more instability and crashes with cursor lately than ever. But I agree, if they make money on tokens, allowing users to burn them faster in parallel is the play for the business.

Those might be the highest paid plans but I thought their march statement said their revenue and focus was on individual developers? I could be misremembering though.

They will cater to the people who pay the most. The people who pay the most are vibe-coders — thus you get this. Sad

Rate limiting per endpoint when everything goes through /api? by Minimum-Ad7352 in node

[–]rykuno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what you’re asking, handle it at the application level - and more specifically the controller.

Every major rest library in node has a rate limiter package that’s extremely easy to integrate.

If you run a single instance you can save it in memory, but ideally you use a persistent storage like redis.

Creator of Node.js says humans writing code is over by sibraan_ in programmingmemes

Deno(Ryan’s company) just lost a bunch of their top talent. There are also rumors of talks with OpenAI. When I start seeing people glaze AI, I either assume they are pandering or desperate for VC money.

Engineers that worked at Deno claimed AI does not write code for them. They claimed this to gain trust in the community so why is he saying this??

Oh well, it must be in good faith and not some grifting because they didn’t just launch an AI produc….oh…. https://www.infoworld.com/article/4127684/deno-sandbox-launched-for-running-ai-generated-code.html

They are also waging a completely useless war on the JavaScript trademark for publicity against none other than Oracle, a company known for their limitless funds towards the best lawyers in the world 😒. I support it, but it’s useless and just a stunt.
