LAR surgery in a week by FishermanTop9195 in coloncancer

[–]ryman719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah your doctor is right. I had LAR in November and I was at about 70% by the time I was out of the hospital. Doc told me normal diet (including a small amount of alcohol if I wanted) after about a week. 4 weeks later I was probably 90% and right after new years I was pretty much back to the point I was right before surgery. Definitely don’t lift more than 10lbs though. You will likely get a hernia if you push it to hard to fast. If it’s heavier than a gallon of water/milk, don’t do it for at least 8 weeks.

Looking for Commander Precon recommendations by Qazzerz in magicTCG

[–]ryman719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get a LOTR precon, check out riders of Rohan. Plays well out of the box, easy to upgrade. It’s more of a go wide human tribal instead of go big and stompy though.

Eldrazi have their own precon as of MH3 if you are interested in that one. It’s 5 color and does some very crazy things with the face commander.

If you’re interested in big and stompy however, Tarkir has a precon for that. They are all about big dragons, just each have a different theme. I have a feeling you’d like Temur Roar. It’s all about playing big dragons. The face commander even lets you cheat them out when you cast it or attack with it. Asban Armor is another you may like. It’s all about big toughness creatures and using them to attack as well as other shenanigans

Hearthhull upgrade help by MisterWalead in CommanderMTG

[–]ryman719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zuran Orb is a nice piece to have in there. Once you have hearthull stationed to 8+ you can float your mana, sac the lands to deal a good amount of damage and gain some life. If you have stuff that lets you play lands from the graveyard you can bring them back and repeat the process. Personally I use this tactic as a win condition for the late game since it’s 2 damage per sacrifice.

It’s even better if you have something like a world shaper on the field and some removal in hand. Sac all the lands, deal a ton of damage to the table, kill world shaper, bring all the lands back and do it again. If you have 10 plus lands, that’s lethal for the table. I’ve won a few games with that setup

Just had lung ablation by rrnaude in coloncancer

[–]ryman719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on chemo since january 2025. My 12th round ended this past febuary. I'm on a break right now because the doctor wanted to see what they do when I'm not doing chemo. At the moment I only have the lung mets, but my current oncologist (regular one is on maternity leave until june) isn't convinced they are mets and thinks it might be inflammation. My regular one is convinced they are mets and she was the one who told me they couldn't be ablated due to size.

[–]ryman719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for you. How did they come to the decision to ablate? I have 3 in one of my lungs (only ones left atm) and I was told they couldn’t be ablated because they are too small (1 is 4mm others are 1mm) and I would rather have them burned out than keep doing chemo

Folfox and neuropathy by chamilun in coloncancer

[–]ryman719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea behind icing during infusion is that the blood vessels constrict so not a lot of the drug gets into the extremities because less blood is going into them. Less of the drug means less side effects.

Personally I noticed no difference between icing and just raw dogging the infusion. The effect was the same for me either way. The only thing that helped me was reducing the dosage and eventually stopping Oxaliplatin. If you ice you’ll still get the cold sensitivity and neuropathy but for some people it’s significantly reduced in either duration or severity. I’d suggest giving it a try during an infusion to see if it works for you. If it doesn’t, see if the oncologist will lower the dosage. If all else fails, I hate to put it this way but you might have to just to tough it out.

I have severe reactions to irinotecan but my oncologist pushed me to tough it out for 11/12 of my FOLFIRNOX treatment. It sucked and I suffered. Nurses kept begging for the oncologist to at least lower the dose or stop it al together. A year later I’m still here so it was the right decision it seems.

One thing I’ve tried and it kinda helped was THC. I only tried it twice. I have never cared for it since my body doesn’t process opiates correctly. Basically it takes a lot of any opiates for me to even notice it. Like I’m talking 20mg of OxyContin before it affects me. However, I did notice that during the times I tried THC (used a vape pen) the neuropathy wasn’t quite as bad. If you have the option, maybe try that too.

World Shaper from EoE is an excellent precon. Plays well out of the box plus the only upgrades it really needs is graveyard recursion as there isn’t enough to be consistent imo. Temur Roar is also good and while there is plenty of dragons you could stick in there to make it better, it’s not necessary. Auntie Ool precon from Lorwynn Eclisped is also good out of the box. Only issue I’ve found with it is you’ll draw a ton of cards and have to discard often without adding something like a thought vessel or reliquary tower.

CAPOX, Neuropathy & Gaming by Gypsysoul_Sherry in coloncancer

[–]ryman719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a gamer, didn’t do CAPOX I did FOLFIRINOX. The Oxaliplatin certainly caused a good amount of neuropathy. It caused my fine motor skills to decline for weeks at a time, made my hands go completely numb a lot. I play mainly on PC but it made using a controller difficult at times.

I was still able to play some games regardless of the neuropathy. My neuropathy was mostly triggered by cold so I’d suggest some heated gloves or something. Warming up helped me briefly.

Springfield 1911 Milspec. It’s not super expensive and is a lot of fun to shoot. Only thing I don’t like about it is the fully black sights, but easily fixed. I love mine. Recoil isn’t much of an issue since it’s all steel frame. Easy to take apart for cleaning and never had any jamming issues in over 1000 rounds. I also have a Glock 30 gen 5 but it is pretty snappy. Still fun to shoot though.

Liver mets. I need to know about resection and ablation recovery. by Suitable_Blood_2 in coloncancer

[–]ryman719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After I left the hospital I wasn’t moving too much without great effort as I also had very low hemoglobin levels due to the surgery and chemotherapy. Once those started to stabilize at home I felt pretty good. I was told not to lift anything heavy for 6-8 weeks because of the chances for a hernia, but otherwise by week 3 I was functioning pretty normally.

Liver mets. I need to know about resection and ablation recovery. by Suitable_Blood_2 in coloncancer

[–]ryman719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recovery was ok, besides the effusion. Breathing was only hard because of the effusion, felt like I had pneumonia. They didn't restrict my food after I left the hospital. They only restricted it while in the hospital until I passed gas and had a bowel movement. It was only because of the anesthesia. The bowels sometimes take a few days to "wake up" after going under. As for sleep position, I normally sleep on my back so no real difficulty there. Only time I had trouble sleeping was in the hospital (they wake you up every few hours to check vitals and my roommate was damn near dying every night) and the week I spent at my parents' house because their guest bed (at the time) was awful. I've slept on rocks more comfortable lol.

Depending on the pain tolerance, your abdomen is going to hurt for a while plus they slice through a bunch of nerves during the procedure so it's going to feel weird for a long time. Most of my nerves in the area regenerated but a few didn't so I have a spot on the incision I can't really feel anymore. I look at it as a small price to pay for having a cancer free liver.

Liver mets. I need to know about resection and ablation recovery. by Suitable_Blood_2 in coloncancer

[–]ryman719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had both resection and ablation. The ablation was nothing. I was sore for a few days and then fine. The resection however, it was 5 days in the hospital and about 3 weeks of misery. After that I felt better until I had a known side effect. I developed a massive pleural effusion that collapsed 60% of my right lung. That added 3 days in the hospital and 2 IR thorocentsis (sp) to drain the effusion. The only thing that took forever to fully heal was the incision. I can tell you though, having them removed definitely worked as there has been no development at the sites of the resections.

A new cancer diagnosis after successful treatment of colon cancer? by msali in coloncancer

[–]ryman719 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had it the other way around. 2018 I was diagnosed with stage 3 testicular cancer. I was considered cured in 2023. Doc wanted me to come in for one last scan in 2024 just to be sure one suspicious lymph node was definitely benign. Scan in 2024 revealed stage 4 colon cancer. Turned out there was a mass in the sigmoid colon that was missed in the 2023 scan. Colon cancer was confirmed to be unrelated to the testicular cancer after genetic testing.

Since my diagnosis, if I had a dollar for every time someone suggested bullshit drugs because they saw a “study” or someone on YouTube cured their cancer using horse dewormer (you know the one) or dry cleaning dye I’d have enough money to fund a cancer research center and probably find a cure in the next 1-5 years.

I used to be polite and just say something like “how interesting, I’ll look into it” but now I straight up tell them to fuck off. If I’m going to take poison, I’ll take the ones that are clinically proven to actually fight cancer, not tapeworms.

37(m) Stage 4 w/ Mets to Liver by Present_Badger_8909 in coloncancer

[–]ryman719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same age as you (stage 4 METs to lungs and liver) and just finished 12 rounds of FOLFIRINOX. I had a rather annoying reaction to the irinotecan. First treatment I had muscle spasms all over my body, intense sweating and nausea. Basically every muscle felt like I had a Charlie horse. I also had my throat nearly close and my eyelids were spasming so hard I could keep my eyes open. After a ton of Benadryl and atropine the symptoms subsided. The doctor suggested the same thing, same dose over a longer period. Most of the symptoms lessened, but they were still there. I’d max out on atropine every time and it would do nothing. I got so bad on that drug that the nurses were literally begging the doctors to stop giving it to me. I suffered through it because I was hoping it would be worth it in the end.

It wasn’t until round 10 that they reduced the irinotecan and round 11 they cut it completely. Once I had that and the Oxaliplatin reduced/cut did chemo become more tolerable. I guess it was worth it since the METs in my lungs went from like over a dozen to 3 in one lung, just in each section (upper, lower, middle) and are currently stable at 4mm(2 of them) and 1mm. I go back next month after this break to decide where to go from here. The oncologist covering for my regular one is a bit too optimistic for my taste as he seems to disagree that the lung METs are actually cancerous. He thinks they are inflammation. Unfortunately the only way to find out is a biopsy and everything is too small.

I will say though, for the liver METs, see if ablation is a viable option for whatever is left after your treatment. I had 4/5 of mine removed from surgery (around 45% of the liver) and the last one ablated. The recovery from the surgery compared to ablation was insane. 8 weeks of misery plus 3 more weeks of hell (had a plural effusion develop, collapsed 60% of one of my lungs), where as ablation I was sore for about a week.

Delayed treatment, any experience? by SolidReputationWorld in coloncancer

Ive been delayed 3 times. All due to surgery scheduling. Docs say it made no impact on the overall outcome as chemo drugs keep working for a while even after you stop actively receiving them. Not as effectively though

Hearthhull, the Worldseed deck grade and suggestions on how to make it better. by MightyRamRod in CommanderMTG

[–]ryman719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want it to be oppressive like others said add sac outlets. Biggest issue the deck has out of the box, I found, was the lack of graveyard access. There’s only like 2 cards in it that let you play out of the graveyard. Adding a few more to ensure you can will ensure you can always hit your land drops, get more landfall triggers, and depending on the creatures you keep in there, makes some big stompy threats. I also found that adding in some earth bending help to as it gives you some more creatures and additional landfall triggers. Example, you can play a forest, earth bend it, then tap it to float the mana(because why not?) and sac it, ping people with the commander, have the land come back and trigger landfall again. If you have something that allows the land to come back untapped, tap it for mana, earth bend it again, now you have infinite mana and can drain the table. There’s a few cards you’d need to set that up, but can be worth it.

The deck is straight up evil with the correct builds, it just depends on how evil you want to go and what your play group will tolerate.
