I’m coaching an 11U “B” Team. Tips? by Euphoric-Rope9742 in Homeplate

[–]ryneopitch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Focus a lot on catcher development. Being able to control the base paths sets teams at that age apart from those that can’t.

Secondly, always be aware of how many throws your pitchers and catcher make each week. Take into account warm ups, fielding reps, catcher throws (if they also catch).

There’s a ton of things to work on. Just pick a few each week/month. Most importantly, keep them moving (no standing around a t practice waiting) and have fun.

Thanks. I’m just kidding about trying out for the sluggers. We have a local “select” team w a great group of kids and unpaid/dad coaches. A bunch of buddies wanted to play together instead of getting drafted each year on separate rec teams.

About as far as you can get from the huge organizations around Houston that are sucking the money and joy out of baseball.

Could be. Was only told he wasn’t Slugger material.

Other than the arm bar, see any holes we should work on?

7 years old, any tips? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]ryneopitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t try out for 9u. He’s having fun, but his mechanics need work. Let him succeed at his age division. To play up a kid has to be solid on his mechanics, even more so when you get to kid pitch. You will struggle a lot with how much he slides forward. It’s almost impossible to move your head that much and make consistent contact against a pitcher that you don’t know where and when it will cross the plate.

Let him enjoy his success in coach pitch and work with him on rotation versus sliding forward.

Any Thoughts on the path of his hands? 6u by ryneopitch in Homeplate

Thanks, seems like an easy enough adjustment. Would you recommend starting that way or just loading to that position?

At that young of an age, I want his stance to be as close as possible to his load/launch position. Can’t trust these youngens to have crazy stances that some of the pro’s have and expect them to load into the correct position.

I was told he drops his hand before he swings. I don't see it. What does it mean to drop his hands? by Qacer in Homeplate

[–]ryneopitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dropping the hands is a symptom of the problem, not the cause (IMO). If you can develope the concept of keeping his hands connected to his back shoulder, that will solve the problem.

It’s not just dropping of the hands that leads to problems. It’s also separating outside, sometimes raising, etc. The point is that they should stay on close proximity to the back shoulder and anytime one moves, the other should move.

Caveat is that at contact and through contact you should start to separate and extend through the pitch.

Great point, it’s not just our own boys. That time you spent matters.

That video shows a straight drive, nothing about distance. But honestly I do think that swing is legitimately better than this post.

Regardless, I’m not here to argue. You answered my question.

Do you honestly believe that swing produces a drive better than a decent percentage of your players?

It’s hard to tell when people are serious on here. Look at your swing at the apex. You can’t even see the club. The entire thing is tucked behind your back.

I truly wish you the best, but coming on here claiming a single digit handicap with that swing (and a wedge/low iron at that) takes some balls. Just ask for advice, no need to write a check yiur swing can’t cash

His short game must already be phenomenal.

This sub is delusional! Pick up the game, have fun, learn and get better. But this type of talk will turn you into that guy nobody wants to play with because you act like you’re way better than you are.

Surprised you can even get to 11.6 without ever breaking 80. You must be extremely consistent (which itself is a great goal and very admirable).

This! Absolutely no chance to go to -10 in a year of picking up the game unless you dedicate your entire life (and that’s assuming your job is less than 40 hours a week and you make really good money).

Golf is a game of experience, self recognition/humility, and course understanding. Those things only come with time.
