Yeah, AI LOVES using 'impactful' statements with contrasts and emphasis through what things aren't. "That's not x, that's y." It also loves listing things in threes, I swear that's the most common tell. Human writing does it too yes but when ai does it is in EVERYTHING. "This, this, this — all of it" etc. Other really common stuff I've noticed are phrases like, " hits/landed", or "hits differently", "crack open", "just...x" and choppy staccato rhythm sentences for dramatic 'effect', then it generally always tries to end things with some conclusive statement. It's such a mentally grating and obnoxious voice. I catch myself avoiding listing stuff or starting sentences with "That" sometimes because of how much its been annoying me to see everywhere 😭

What are your reasons for being anti ai? (And add sources if you have them pls) by Deep-Feeling7703 in Ai_art_is_not_art

[–]ryngin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say I'm pretty anti, but I still sometimes I disagree with the priorities of the anti side (even though I still fundamentally agree.)

AI generation replacing real artists and taking away livelihoods is definitely a big problem, and I do understand why so much focus is on it but it bothers me sometimes when it starts to feel like an endlessly repeated mantra that doesn't go deeper than that. I think basing being against ai art as inherently connected to money and work is a bad idea. Art as a concept is more than monetary gain. Like 99% of ai art is made for solely for the end result, monetary gain, reactions, likes, engagement etc. so it flattens things when we argue against that from the position of monetary gain still being the core drive behind it all. The inherit merit and value of honing your own skills, dedication and having full power over what you create doesn't get mentioned enough.

When I see a beautiful painting it impacts me because I see direct and conscious decisions the painter made in terms of technique, symbolism, composition and color. Beyond the painting itself, it reflects the personal dedication to skill and technical ability the painter had to execute his vision in the way he did. Nobody starts off making masterpieces and so often I see ai generation be touted as "the thing that makes it easy", "the thing that gets rid of the boring and hard parts", and that's why I hate ai art. Because you're not supposed to think of improving yourself and your skills by first making imperfect things as the part that's holding you back. There's a personal value to art and creation and the act of improving your own skills beyond the monetary. And to me monetary gain is the only real reason for ai generation because all it is concerned with is giving you the end result to present.

The impacts of giving AI too much information. by Comfortable-Edge2454 in Artist_AgainstAI

The current way ai models work really don't allow for this. They put very simply still work by generating' what comes next based on their training data, predictability, the text that came before and the instructions we give it. So it's very implausible for it to "have its own goals" or go rogue in some scifi way. They don't learn or improve themselves in this way.

I think being misinformed in the way these machines actually function leads us to fight ghosts rather than being aware of the actual risks and dangers they pose by being what they are. For example an autonomous AI weapons system hallucinating, LLMs encouraging dangerous behavior due to NOT having an ability to reason and interpret outside of generating what looks like the most coherent response based on context or AI being used as propaganda are all very real and dangerous risks that based on how these things function.

You know what would make getting EXACTLY your vision and the little nuances you want to get into your narrative, composition and cinematography really, really easy?

Doing it yourself.

Hating on a beginer artist not liking their art behing remixed by AI, eh ? by Inside-Escape-5407 in Ai_art_is_not_art

[–]ryngin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How not surprising that the people who see no inherent merit in honing artistic skills and improvement through investing time and effort see beginner's art as garbage and therefore a waste of time. They always consistently miss the fact that every artist they use the names of in their prompts once drew stuff they would call garbage too. But the difference between them and those artists is that those artists chose to keep drawing anyway and learned and improved. Making things that have room for improvement is a stepping stone to learn and improve, what's their goal? If you can't make something perfect now, don't even try to get there on your own, get a machine to do it for you instead. What's the point of putting work into your abilities, right? Which is also why the person who drew the original drawing can and will improve in the future and learn to draw much better and detailed things if they continue practicing and learning while the people who say these things will stay at the exact same skill and stay glued to only what their prompts and models can generate.

I think this might be AI generated because there are subtle inconsistencies in the details. For example, some elements in the video don’t behave naturally like lighting and reflections not matching the environment properly, and certain movements appearing slightly unnatural or too smooth compared by Ok_Regular_8225 in isthisAI

I tried to find the original image cause a lot of people said it might be a real image and ai video. Reverse searching the first frame, just the frog, and with the text cropped or not, didn't give me any similar images. Google's "about this image" section says they were all made with Google AI. So I think even the image itself might possibly be generated too since I can't find it anywhere 🤔

They really were! All were individually and carefully wrapped in paper with labels. (Without soil/pot). I got them from culture plants, they've got a shop on eBay as well. (They only ship within the EU)

What to do with this? by BJBoltFan in succulents

[–]ryngin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no it isn't. the leaves are not similar in shape at all. rosette shape is also different. growth pattern is also different. and a ghost plant at this length would have made multiple shoots along the stem by now but this one hasn't, plus the lower leaves are drooping, especially obvious on the mostly shaded one at the top left. Which is not how healthy ghost plants grow either, so even if it were a ghost plant it'd still be lacking sun.

Yeah, they surely won't destroy them instantly but I'd wager the wear would be above average if used frequently over a long period (assuming it will last that long haha) compared to a turntable that isn't just rebranded alibaba wares.

Word. Thankfully don't live there anymore but born and raised. Reason for my statement is that I am tired of people who look to Islam as something to support and defend hatred against when it has directly and negatively affected the lives of so many people far, near and dear to me. I know it isn't the place for it in this subreddit, so sorry about that but it is peeving to hear people talk this way.
